One Star for this part: On May 17th, I learned that this salon operates by chair so if you make an appointment and that person cannot make it they will cancel your appointment. I did not know this when I called several weeks in advance to book a May appointment for my mom and I for a very special family occasion. The person who would do my hair got sick and she contacted me the night before to tell me she wanted to reschedule. I explained a reschedule would not help as my family event was the next day. She was helpful in finding another person to fill in after I pleaded. I also spoke to the owner Roddy who explained the situation and tried to help find someone to cover. The following day the fill in person canceled 40 minutes before my appointment!! It was insanely unprofessional. You can imagine this stressed me out and gave me low confidence on whether my mom's appointment would still be happening. I walked in that morning to ensure that my mom's appointment wouldn't be canceled since this was her big day and to communicate what my mom wanted for her hairstyle. I was met with a vibe of resistance and attitude. The guy who came to the front desk told me "well this isn't DryBar" when I told him that my mom wanted Hollywood waves and he said he couldn't assure me they could do that because I "only booked a blowout"and I said, DryBar, a chain with people who are learning offer any hair style after a blowout, including Hollywood waves. His response blew my mind. I took my mom for her appointment and Samantha was very understanding of the situation and helped my mom achieve the look she desired. read more

Vince, my dude!!! I've been going to Vince for my haircuts for about 4-5 years now. My first haircut with Jon Michael salon was during my time at UCR but since then, I have moved an hour away to LA. In an effort to stay local and not make a half day affair out of a haircut, I've tried getting haircuts at other salons closer to me. NOPE, never again. Nobody handles my thick, Asian, bipolar, super damaged hair with as much grace, style, efficiency, and understanding as Vince. So YES I make the commute just to see him. NO SHAME. I mean, sometimes when you got a good thing... I always walk out somehow with my hair looking fuller and longer than when I came in. He does a fantastic Brazilian blowout and I always joke that I need to change my outfit to match my fabulous hair. Every time, Vince trims the damaged ends while adding volume and movement to my hair. Also, he tries his best not to compromise the length which I really appreciate. Best of all, after my haircuts, my hair is stylish and flattering but still very low-maintenance and easily manageable. He is also super easy-going and is a true professional dedicated to his craft. I know all the stylists here stay up to date on current market trends and take monthly classes to perfect their techniques. The new location is great. It's a huge open warehouse style space and very industrial (read: hipster). The receptionist is always friendly and offers a beverage while you wait. Great product selection and music. I am new to Riverside and needed to find a hair stylist. I called and it was easy to book a haircut. My stylist was Chelsey Pacheco and she did a great job of listening to what I wanted in a haircut. She effortlessly blended my bangs so that I can grow them out. The cut she gaves me enhances my natural wave for easy styling. I was worried this might be a profits over employees kind of business but I was happy to hear from Chelsey that it is a great place to work. I think happy employees give better customer service. Let me begin by first applauding Karen Allen Salon in the Riverside Plaza for providing a quick response and rescue from the hair appointment nightmare delivered by Jon Michaels Salon & Goods. Jon Michaels fails to communicate with their stylists regarding vacation days and time off. After a nice consultation with Diana for full highlights and a cut I scheduled an appointment for November 5. I looked forward to having my hair given the special treatment and be ready to shine at a wedding I will attend on November 8. Jon Michaels text and called to confirm the appointment yesterday and today. Cool! Ready to go! And then the phone just rang less than 24 hours prior to my appointment. Diana, the hair stylist, explained the salon did not put her vacation time in the system and she is on a camping trip. She further explained that she will not be in the salon and needed to cancel on short notice. I can understand an illness, family, emergency, and so on. However, to have to cancel a client due to poor communication with the salon is unprofessional. Thank goodness Karen Allen Salon understood my hardship and was able to book me for an appointment with short notice. In my opinion, Jon Michaels cannot deliver a professional service or respect a client's needs. Venture into their salon at your own risk. read more

I've been a client of Alexa Schuring for a few years now! And let me just tell you, she is AMAZING! She always has the best customer service and it is just so entertaining/fun to be her client! She will help you figure out what will look best with your style, skin tones, etc. From drastically changing the color of my hair (pink) to a doing my routine highlights and tone, she does it best. JM Salon has a great vibe and welcoming atmosphere. Scheduling as a new client was easy and they got me in - even post COVID in just a couple of days from when I called. I had Vincent give me an excellent and gorgeous cut. Like many of us I've seen many stylists at many salons, what sets Vincent apart is his calm and cool vibe and excellent skill set. He doesn't believe in the oversell or overdoing hair. We talked a lot about products and I appreciate he advocates for using only what you need and letting your hair be center stage, not products. He listened to my wish list of needs for my hair and also have some good recommendations as well as did a great job to manage my expectations. I was referred to this hair salon. It is a great place with great vibes, located next to Mission Inn. When I called to make an appointment, apparently I had to do consultation ahead of time. Keep in mind that consultation cost $15. I was quoted around $170 to dyed my hair ( I had my hair bleached to blonde in January and I'm trying to go darker color). On the appointment day, I received the following: some highlights, dyed my hair darker, and layered my hair. I didn't think to discuss the cost since I thought the cost won't be too far off from original quote. I wish I did since it was my first time because my end bill came up to $375. Do I like my hair? Yes, I do. So...if this is your first time: you'll be the judge =) **update : got the cost breakdown: original quote $170 ($45 filler + $125 toner) + $70 hair cut + $95+$40 for the partial highlights and color correction. I booked a hair consultation appointment only to be told from stylist Vincent, he is unable to assist me on booking a hair appointment until one month and a week away from the date of 05/27/2021 which was an inconvenience to me because the receptionist who initially booked my hair consultation appointment should have communicated to me in advance stylist Vincent does not have any availability for new clients. This review is for Daniel Marrone. He's a colorist and MUA. He is a sweetheart. He does require consult before services just to make sure ur expectations aren't ridiculous. I LOVE him. His prices depend on what he has to do to ur hair. I also hired him end of last year for my gfs wedding in Vegas. His travel fee really wasn't even that much. I absolutely loveddddd the make up on my gf and the other bridesmaid and myself. I would def book him again if need be. The brides make up was so gorgeous she didn't wash it off and wore it around the day after and it was still bomb! -- the bride normally wears 0 make up but loved how he caked it on. I asked him to cake it on without looking to heavy hahahahah I feel like if ur gonna pay someone to do ur make up then pile that shiit on and make it look beautiful! The girls at the salon are hit and miss with the friendliness. Sometimes they offer you water or tea and sometimes they don't even acknowledge ur presence. So 8 months later and my hair is getting even more compliments now than when it was first done! Crazy, right? (Don't get me wrong, I was getting compliments when it was first done too!) I was visiting SoCal for my Lola's 90th bday from BMORE and originally wanted to book an appointment with Oscar because I love his work on IG. He was unavailable, but since the salon had great reviews, I asked for an appointment with someone who could color and cut Asian hair (BTW, I'm Filipino). So I had an appointment with Jessica and her work is hot fiyaaahhhh! I was about 5 months pregnant and told her I wanted an ombre that would take me into the summer, but would transition well without touching up since I wouldn't be getting my hair done again for several months. She really listened to what I was looking for and my hair was honey and blonde without being too blonde and no brass!! When my cousin came in to look for me, I was at the counter paying and she thought I was a white lady from the back. That's how natural my blonde looked. LOL! Not only did Jessica deliver the results, but she had me in and out in less than 4 hours!! AMAZING!!
