Thanks to Yelp, I decided to give Shenanigans a try and booked an appt w/ Angela. Scheduling an appt was super easy and I initially was looking into Gray blending or something similar to better control my grays. Angela was pretty booked for color, so I scheduled a haircut with her first to get in a bit sooner and see if she would be a good fit for me. Before my appt, I also sent photos of my Inspiration haircolors/styles via text and in turn, she had me send her current pics of my hair and a summary of my color history. What I loved and appreciated was Angela's honesty and frankness. She didn't sugar coat anything and based on photos alone questioned if my hair was even healthy enough to withstand another bleach transformation to achieve the look of my inspiration pics. On the day of my haircut appt- she assessed the damage and confirmed my hair wasn't healthy enough at that time to get the results I was looking for with color and it would probably break if I bleached it again this soon. Not what I wanted to hear- but it is what it is...and I had consulted with another stylist prior at a different salon who essentially said the same thing. Angela spent a long time with me listening to my hair goals and examining my hair and we came up with a game plan focused on improving the health of my hair in preparation for my Inspiration pics. Loved the haircut and the vibes w/ Angela and the salon so I excitedly scheduled an appt a month out for the color. What Angela did was amazing! The brassiness/orange/warm tones disappeared, my grays were gone, and with a B3 treatment felt soft, healthy and had amazing shine. I was so impressed I booked her for the same thing again! I am beyond thrilled to have found a new salon and stylist with Angela at Shenanigans. She is super kind, professional, on time, upfront and talented. Shenanigans is right off the 91 frwy in a small strip mall with a mexican restaurant and Farmer Boys restaurant. The salon is clean, huge, and with alot of natural lighting. The other stylists and staff were all very professional, welcoming and friendly as well. I was really looking forward to trying this salon after finding it on Yelp. I used the online reservation system and specifically selected Angela, as I felt her experience would be a great fit for what I needed. I knew the service would be an investment, and I was more than willing to pay for the right professional. Unfortunately, the system showed no availability for the next few months, so I joined the waitlist hoping someone would reach out to discuss options or future availability. After waiting a couple of weeks with no contact, not even a brief email or call, I've decided to continue my search elsewhere. I lost my longtime stylist in 2020 when I moved, and I haven't had my hair professionally done since. I was hopeful this would be the place, but the lack of communication suggests it wasn't meant to be. To the owner: A simple phone call or email acknowledging waitlist requests would go a long way. Even if you can't accommodate someone right away, letting them know they're on your radar (or if the wait will be exceptionally long) is far more professional than leaving potential clients in limbo indefinitely. I've come to Shenanigans Hair Salon a couple of times before, but this experience completely broke my trust. I scheduled a service that they never actually performed. Instead, my appointment was canceled last minute, then rescheduled by them, only for it to happen again. After canceling on me, they asked me to come in the very next day at 8:00 AM on a Wednesday, which I agreed to only for them to cancel on me again. What's frustrating is that salons are quick to hold customers accountable for no-shows or late cancellations, yet there was zero accountability on their end for repeatedly canceling last minute and wasting my time. Rearranging my schedule multiple times just to have appointments canceled is unprofessional and disrespectful. Consistency and reliability matter, especially in a service-based business. Unfortunately, this experience showed a complete lack of both. I don't recommend this place if you value your time or expect professional scheduling practices. read more

His attitude felt dismissive and unwelcoming from the moment I arrived. During my most recent visit, I brought up a concern about breakage in my bangs from a previous appointment and politely asked that he avoid starting with them this time. When l relocated back to this area l had difficulty finding someone that got the color right. I looked at Angela's Instagram and decided to try her. I have been very happy. My go-to is the Ladies Cut with a blow out and depending who's doing my hair, I get it styled. Prices have ranged from $50-$65 plus tip, which is about average with inflation these days (unless you go to a Great Clips) but of course you get what you pay for. I don't usually write Yelp reviews, but this experience left me no choice. It's been nearly two weeks since my appointment and I'm still incredibly disappointed. I came in before a major life event, hoping for a haircut that felt like a fresh start. Instead, I walked out with something I didn't ask for and can't hide. I'm not a confrontational person and by the time I realized the stylist was doing something completely different than what I asked for, it was too late to salvage it. They mentioned halfway through that the cut wouldn't suit my hair type (which can't be true as i've had a similar style done before with no issue) but instead of discussing alternatives, they just did whatever they wanted. Being a professional doesn't give you permission to ignore the client's input. I've tried to convince myself it wasn't that bad, but every time I look in the mirror or at photos, it just reminds me how wrong it looks. The cut is too short to fix, so now I just have to wait for it to grow out. This was a frustrating and upsetting experience. read more

Whitney is a stylist at Shenanigans, and she is best. I'm very particular for anyone who works on my hair, and I found her about 6 years ago and I now trust no one else. She's taken my 80's rock hairstyle and helped transform my hair to a style better suited for a woman in her 50s. She finally talked me into getting a Brazilian blowout, and I'm blown away by the results. My naturally curly, frizzy thick hair is transformed. My hair is soft, easy to manage and straight with little to no frizz! I'm not exaggerating; normally to dry my hair it would take 30-45 minutes and then style it. I am super disappointed in my experience with Virginia. I hate leaving bad reviews when speaking about someone's job that affects their livelihood- but damn- I hope this is a learning experience for someone. I had a lot of regrowth from my postpartum hair loss. I asked her to cut it a few inches past the re growth because I didn't want short hair. I came in with long hair. She showed me how short she would cut it- which was inches (maybe 4-5) below my shoulder. I said it was fine. Why is my hair above my shoulders? I cried. It was not what I asked for. Not what we discussed. and she acknowledged it wasn't what we discussed. She was also rushing everything. The root touch up was being put on sloppy. I have hair color on my skin and in my ear. I understand it happens, but the way she slapped the color on my hair was wild. I've never experienced a stylist doing it so sloppy. I also asked for layers and she said it wouldn't look good on my type of hair. Which she said was thin. I've never had a stylist tell me my hair was thin. Was the bottom part thin? Yes- it's from when I lost my hair after birth. But was the regrowth thin? No. I look forward to stylists opinion on what hairstyle would look good on me- they evaluate the shape of my face, texture of my hair, maybe even my lifestyle if they know a little bit about me. But no- not Virginia- it was just that it wouldn't look good on me. Be more careful with how you speak to clients. Show me pictures of what would look good on me. I value your opinion when you take the time to know my hair. I know hair grows back. And I know I can change the color. It doesn't take away the fact that I wasn't heard and i wasn't treated well. I didn't get what I asked for. What we discussed. And it was sloppy. I knew as we were going through each step - that this was not what I experienced before.
