My hair color has never looked so amazing. She did my roots and my highlights. She was so sweet and her work is outstanding. Then I had my hair blown out by Cristina-I told her she could keep it simple and not go nuts and she blew it out as if I was going to an event it was amazing! I tried this place when I moved to Greenwich, having heard very good things (3rd hand). Lovely decor and vibe, receptionists were sweet but they took terrible care of my hair, and really, that is all that matters. I have been highlighting it for years and have never, ever had someone put me under a heat lamp to speed the processing with highlights. It damaged my hair terribly and I was in tears. To their credit, they did do a protien treatment when they realized how distraught I was but it really didn't matter, my hair was very badly damaged. Also, be prepared for one person to color, another to cut and an assistant to both wash, rinse and style you. Really? The person who cuts your hair doesn't have time to do your blow out? Between the assistant doing the blowout and the heat lamp, I think they were really rushing to get me out of there. It makes the tipping exhorbitant and difficult as well. I think from start to finish the cut & color cost about $400. NYC prices and a NYC "feel" to the place but please... if I am paying that much, treat me like I matter! Note that I did try them again after this, with a DIFFERENT colorist (Anna), whom I liked a lot and went somewhere else for a cut, but the cost and the hassle of going two places wasn't worth it. First off, my blow dry was very flat and I left the place not feeling like I got a FAB blow dry. Second, I usually need sometime to assess my hair. I have shoulder length, wavy hair. I wanted lots of layers - a fun, flirty hairstyle. My hair felt very heavy and blah. The only reason I came to this salon was because my mother had gotten me a gift certificate for a haircut with one of the owners.This was also a year ago from today. While the place is very upscale and glamour driven and you're treated very well regarding attention, its not so great in the listening department. When I spoke to my hair stylist, I told him that I wanted something different, that I wanted to maybe chop off all my hair or just do something different. He nodded and then said that we need to put layers in because my hair is so thin so it'll look fuller. Nothing new for me since I know this about my hair, but that doesn't mean that I still don't want sometihng new. End result... I walked out with essentuially the same layered haircut, only shorter and with no split ends. and to top it off... all the stylist did was cut my hair and then had his assistant blow it out for me. Too overpriced for me to have gotten the same usual haircut when I walked in there giving the stylist free range with only the stipulation of no short short bangs and being able to have the hair just long enough to pull it back into a short ponytail. Meh. PS - two weeks later, I ended up going to the salon my mom works with and the gay guys there gave me a gorgeous haircut that was different for me and still gave me volume and it cost me nothing! read more

Just moving to the area I was looking for a new salon where I could get a quality color / highlight without paying crazy prices. I heard great things about Salon O and found out that they have the option to go in and serve as a model for their assistants who are in training. I figured I would give it a try and am so happy I did. I had Christina. She was great and I absolutely loved the way my hair came out! I would never have even thought she was an assistant. She was super nice, professional, and seemed really confident in what she was doing. If you do go in for the class and serve as a model you do have to be prepared for their senior colorists to come over and check everything and give the girls tips but I didn't mind at all. Called early in the week for single-process color and eyebrow waxing, and they got me set for Saturday. Everyone was friendly, though I felt a little disconnected since so many people were involved in the process. They mis-booked my eyebrow appointment by a day. The waxer does her own bookings, which they didn't tell me on the phone, and was unable to fit me in when we realized the mishap. I'm completely happy with my color, and the single-process plus gloss was definitely a fair price. Not too expensive. I did my own blow dry with their products & brushes. Not bad. I would not recommend this salon. They charge prices like an established NYC salon, but they don't offer the professionalism, skill, or overall experience to justify it. I gave them two shots. On the first visit I had single color by Nicole, and a cut and a blowout by Gabriela. Nicole was pleasant and I enjoyed my experience with her. However, she applied my color to the roots and pulled it through to the ends. This is an amateur move, as permanent color should never be applied to the ends of your hair. It dries it out, creates build up, and can result in the ends being darker than your roots. My blowout on the first visit was done well, but having a conversation with Gabriela was like pulling teeth. She offered no smile or attempt at pleasantries, which is not necessarily part of her job but definitely contributes to a positive salon experience (especially with what they are charging). On the second visit I only had color done by Nicole. I immediately felt uncomfortable when the receptionist told me to "go on back". I had been there once before, but I really didn't remember where the color room was and it was uncomfortable to walk around alone looking for the right spot. When I finally found it I didn't know where to sit, so I just awkwardly stood in the corner until Nicole came out and took care of me. I asked her to match what was previously done, just to touch up my roots. She must not have written down her formula, because after a few days it was very clear that I had two-toned hair from where the color had been applied. I also find it unprofessional that they do not include a blow dry with the service. They actually sat me in a salon chair with some dirty combs and tools and told me I could blow dry my own hair. While they were upfront about this, I find it rare that a salon does not include this nowadays. Regarding this and the prices overall: I have no problem paying a steep price to have my hair done right, but I expect it to be done correctly and to enjoy my overall salon experience if I am doing so. When I inquired about whether or not root color cost the same as an all-over color, Nicole and the receptionist were extremely rude and defensive. I was absolutely willing to pay whatever it was they were charging, but I was just trying to clarify, as I had never seen this before. Nicole was indignant that "this is how every salon does it" and "there is no such thing as just root color". She made me feel stupid, and I would like to correct her here. I have lived in various cities (and frequented high-profile salons) and usually pay a different price for a root touch up than an all-over color (logically). Like I said, I was not unwilling to pay by any means, but Nicole's defensive and condescending attitude made it clear that I should not return here. I have since found a new salon and I am much happier with the overall experience, as well as a stylist that truly understands color theory. read more

That made my decision of having to find a new salon. Having driven by Salon O a few times and thinking it looked hip, I walked in, asked for an appointment with someone who was good with short hair and secured an appointment for the next day with Rocco. He has a great way about him, listened to what about this short hair cut was not working and he totally heard me! He improved my hair cut in a matter of 30 minutes and I was thrilled. I went back 2 weeks later and he was consistent....great haircut and great style (had a party that night). Rocco (one of the owners) gets a huge 5 star rating! I've been going to Salon O for a year now and I'm not going anywhere else. I see Nathan for my cuts and he always does a great job. Asks me what I want, we talk about it, and then he does it. No walking out with 3in less hair than you expected. He's also super flexible and will see me quickly for a quick bang trim if needed. I also got highlights done here for the first time. At first I wasn't sure how much I liked them but I went back to have them adjusted twice in the first week and by the end of it I was IN LOVE with them. So many compliments and they grew out beautifully. Wasn't charged for the changes and they just wanted to make sure I was happy. I tipped her every time of course. Great salon! read more

Do not go here!!!!! I had my hair destroyed and it took months to fix. I went in with brown hair and asked for a few lighter highlights. I asked for low and highlights so I didn't think anything of the colorist putting in a whole head of color. Afterwards, I was supposed to get my hair cut but since the colorist was running late, they cancelled my cut and just put me with someone else...??? Didn't ask, just changed my stylist. I was pretty pissed bc I already patiently had waited 45 minutes for my coloring appt to begin and now I was being treated like I was the one who was late . Anyway, I declined the haircut and when I got home and blew out my hair it was white. Not sandy brown, not sun-kissed but white. I called and they got me back in the next day to fix but instead of really fixing it, they just put in a glaze that muted the white. They told me I would get some complimentary protein treatment and blow out but I never got the treatment and the girl who did the blow out (who was supposed to do my cut the day before) was really not ingratiating at all. I think she was upset she had to do a free blow out. Frankly, I should have been offered a free cut for all that I went through. Anyway, after the glaze my hair was improved but it still was so damaged that I had to get a series of treatments to close the cuticle and I had to get the color fixed. It was so brittle you couldn't brush it. It would tangle on its own and I had to get a lot of it cut out. They obviously left the color in way too long but didn't want to take responsibility and fix it right. I went to Nathanial once and although hard to get an appt. he was very nice and did a good job. Overall, this salon is way too expensive though for what you get. I went back to Noelle in Stamford to get my hair fixed. It is expensive too but I have always been treated well there and I have always been happy with my hair. read more

Horrendous experience and if I could give 0 stars I would. I actually try not to cry every time I see my hair! I went in to be a hair model knowing that everyone there is certified and currently works at the salon. I was hoping to go in, fall in love with my stylist, and become a dedicated customer. That clearly did not happen. Not only did my stylist hijack my consultation to prove himself to the teacher, he spent the rest of the cut trying to impress the teacher. He should have been trying to impress me and give me what I wanted. The worst part is that the cut wasn't even good! If I had received a good cut I could deal with it. On top of the bad cut, I tried to give some feedback and explain why I was upset. I wished that we had a longer consultation where I was asked more specific questions, had showed them photos of what I wanted, and talked more about layering during the cut. The teacher, Nathaniel, became extremely defensive and basically shut down. Instead of listening he yelled. Instead of being empathetic he blamed me. Furthermore, the only comment my stylist said was that the length was what I wanted which is absolutely not true. This was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with the service industry. The sad part is that I'm also in the hospitality/service world and know the importance of good service. The way I was treated was horrendous and disrespectful. I will never return to Salon O, and can never recommend it. The cherry in top is the lack of response when I tried to contact one of the owners, Rocco. Instead of taking my call or finding a time for us to have a conversation, he told the receptionist to me give his email address. I emailed asking to find a time to speak about my recent experience. I read a review on yelp that Lara was a blonde specialist and decided to give salon O a chance. Besides that Lara, is sooo so cool, down to earth and kind. Well, I must start off by saying that I wish I lived closer again. I was a loyal customer for some time until I moved and am now living too far. If there were a term for being a hair freak that would be me. I am EXTREMELY picky with my hair. It has to look and feel a certain way if not, I am not satisfied what so ever. Yes, I will make a big deal right there and then. Before I found this place, I was on a search for the right salon. I went through quite a few salons. It was either they spoke too much and didn't listen to what I wanted, didn't care what I wanted and did whatever, or listened to what I wanted but didn't know how to get my hair to how I explained. It was very frustrating to say the least. As for Salon O, I remember finding that place on the internet after a search for great hair salons. I'll pay the price if the job is going to be done the way that I ask. I was just tired of paying $250 for something that I was not at all satisfied with. It was a waste of money and I'd prefer to pay a little more but, to really get what I ask for. As I called for the first time, I explained to the receptionist that it would be my first time going there and that I was extremely picky. I also explained to her that I wanted blond highlights and that my hair is frizzy. While on their website there is a little bio on each colorist and stylist. I must say, thats what did it for me I automatically knew who would do my hair and do it correctly. Lara (the colorist) was the one who would get the blond that I had wanted and Nathaniel was the one who would know how to control my frizz. The receptionist agreed that those 2 were my best options. After, my first appointment and getting my beauty up to par I was SOO happy! My hair looked phenomenal!!!! Lara is the best colorist on earth!!!!!!! She did my blond perfect! Perfect,perfect,perfect. My hair looked blond and not orange!!! It also didn't look like I had lines of blonde painted in, there were all so well blended I was so relieved. Nathaniel was great also, he took his time to ask me what I wanted and made sure all the frizz was gone. I didn't really want to cut much of my hair just a little touch up which he did. The haircuts look great even when I do nothing, they grow in beautifully, you can't even tell when I'm due for a haircut. Besides his talent, Omar is an exceptional human being. My colorist, Ana, is a true artist in the color dept. she first worked on my hair to correct the color - now she is the only one I will let touch my color. The blonde is crisp, the highlights are natural and shiny and I consistently get compliments just walking down the street. She's very sweet as well and listens to my requests and really takes into account what I'm looking for. It is a pleasure to get my color done and spend time on her chair. As always, their attention to detail was unparalleled and my hair looked so beautiful. I could not ask for more talented, wonderful, kind stylists. Then, I came in Saturday morning to have my hair blown out and curled by Cris, and to have my makeup done by Jess for a wedding I was attending. Saturday was the hottest, most humid day of the year, yet my hair and makeup lasted all day and all night! I went today to get my hair done after reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp, and I'm happy to say that I've finally found my go-to salon! I absolutely loved everything about my experience, from start to finish, and even now as I keep glancing into every mirror I pass by to admire my new luscious locks! Everyone is SO friendly and the place is super client-oriented, which I loved. I had Christina for my color. I was pretty vague about what I wanted, but she listened closely, pitched a couple ideas of her own, and then went and hunted down a picture to show me to make sure we were on the same page. From the moment she started I could tell she is super knowledgeable and takes her craft seriously, which put me right at ease. She totally nailed it. My color now looks awesome. My cut was with Stephanie and I was absolutely as equally impressed. Before I even got started with color, she took the time to come over, introduce herself and discuss what I wanted to do. I went to Nathaniel with a pixie request - he made the vision become a reality but BETTER than my vision. Christina, the colorist, is a true hair coloring artist! i went here on the recommendation of my usual hairdresser to get a preview updo style for a wedding. Upon arrival I was told with no courtesy that I was there at the wrong time ( not true) and would have to wait at least an hour for anyone. As I had driven quite a way I did so. I should have just left. While I was waiting I was aggressively talked into what I thought was a complimentary make up which left me looking like a mannequin. Horrible, false eyelashes and all. Truly terrible. Two hours later, I left with an updo and makeup appropriate for Las Vegas. To add insult to injury the salon manager called me the next day to announce that I had left without " paying for the makeover". I told him that I had of course paid the bill I had been given but he insisted that I owed one hundred dollars for the make up mess I had not even wanted in the first place! They went ahead and charged my credit card and I could have contested it with the card company but I decided to let it go and NEVER go there again. I can't speak for the color stylists or cutters. I just thought they were rude and unprofessional and the services I had were quite simply, awful. read more
