The clean, large salon had a lot happening. I haven't been in a large salon in 20 years. They had a…read moremenu of freebies on the table at check in. How exciting! One star down because...no one asked if I would like anything. Not while I waited, not while I had my hair done and nothing to go. Not even water guys! Wow what lack of customer service. Why have a delightful looking menu? Second my hairstylist Beth took her time and gave me layers. I asked for layers. Lots of layers, however my thin, barely there hair got way too chunky (and not blended) in some areas rendering HOLES in my hair. It took me a minute to write this review and the cut thank goodness is growing out. Will I return, probably not. Finding a new hair cutter that works for your hair is one of the hardest things out there.

They make solid recommendations and talk w their clients about what will look beautiful, what is doable, all while making each person walking away feeling like they were their stylist's priority. Elizabeth M has been styling and coloring my hair for years. She always takes time w me, asking me what I want, showing me what is achievable, and then teaching me how to make sure I get my hair the way she's able to do it, everyday. That's always hard, bc you know how hard it is to make your hair look like they do! Elizabeth is also a color master!!! I've never been disappointed!

Everyone was so happy with their hair and makeup! Becky was especially amazing. She went above and beyond with my bridal hair and makeup, bringing my vision to life even better than I imagined. She was also so warm and lovely to be around, which made getting ready that morning so much fun. My only negative experience was with Diane, the booking manager, who was unfortunately rude and unpleasant to communicate with throughout the planning process. Aside from that, I had a wonderful experience with Avenue 42 and would absolutely recommend their artists, especially Becky!

Cancer Patient Refused $500 Refund - Poorly Done Microblading…read more I am a recently diagnosed cancer patient that was seeking to get my eyebrows microbladed. I went to Maria @mariialash for microblading/"nano brows". Her price for this service is $500. I wanted to get this done prior to starting chemo so I could still have natural-looking brows during treatment. Unfortunately, 100% of the pigment that Maria put on my eyebrows fell out, despite following her care instructions. I informed her of this and sent a photo of my plain brows, stating that I am starting treatment any minute and will be unable to do anything that may compromise my immune system such as getting a tattoo, for at least the next year. At this time I requested a refund. She has refused to disperse a refund stating that her disclaimers her clients sign state this could happen. A flimsy "disclaimer" does not excuse a business from providing good service and exercising good judgement. I do not recommend trusting Maria with your money nor your brows.

Love this salon, and I loooove Haley!…read more I have been trying to find a salon in Richmond that I connect with. You have to love your salon to love your hair cut/style, etc. And I think I finally found it. I was skeptical with a 6:30PM appointment when they close at 7pm, thinking that I would be rushed and that it would be poor quality since I was the last appointment of the day. Boy was I wrong, from the moment I walked in and was greeted, to getting my hair washed (which I still think is the best part of getting your haircut!) to meeting Haley and getting my fresh new style, the whole experience was great! Haley took her time, was so nice, talkative, and made me feel like I was talking with a friend instead of a woman I just met. The salon is super cute too, right in Carytown with a boutique style and very comfortable! I left with a fabulous hair cut, a fabulous experience and I will be regularly making my appointments there!

NOT THE PLACE FOR CURLY HAIR!!…read more Unfortunately I feel heavy writing this review but it's the truth. If you have curly hair , THIS IS NOT THE PLACE. I went to Alana Kai Salon on Thursday to get a blow dry (wash + blow dry). My natural hair is curly however, I have done the Brazilian back in January which mean the only curly part I have is the roots. It's not a lot or thick. In other salons my hair was done within 30 minutes because majority of the hair is already straight. Since I had a wedding on Friday in another state and my flight was the first thing in the morning. I requested a simple blow dry. The process took 2 hours. The blow dryer in my opinion did not have enough heat to make my hair straight (roots). In my opinion the stylist was focusing on the bottom part (which was already straight). She also said my hair was thick (which it is not)I had to tell the stylist multiple time to focus on blow drying the roots because I was able to see the fizziness. Her response is that she's worried about being too close to the scalp and won't have much volume. As anyone with curly hair knows this is expected when straightening hair. I was fed up because at the end a simple task was done without me being at ease. It was frustrating constantly telling the stylist to focus on certain part. If I did it to myself I would have been at ease and saved money. The stylist was nice but I was done, and couldn't have the heart to tell her anything. I had to leave and fix it on my own.
