Don't trust this business with your information. I booked a haircut for my husband at Nefisa Downtown after getting a haircut there myself. After his haircut, they asked if he would be returning, and he said that he may return in a few months. They then asked if he wanted to return a month from that day. He said he might be back sometime around then. (Really he just didn't like his haircut, and he had a hard time communicating that. That part is NOT the salon's fault.) Here is where things went wrong with the salon: They booked him for the appointment, which he DID NOT ASK FOR. Received 0 texts confirming this "appointment" in advance, and they charged us $34 to my card for a no show appointment HE DID NOT ASK FOR. Receiving this charge, we were obviously confused. I emailed directly with the owner to settle this. First they "don't have any record of this charge". Then they "do have it on record, and say it was for his haircut he went in for" Not true. He paid for this haircut in person the same day he got it. Then it's "Well he had an appointment, and he didn't show up. We can't issue you a full refund." Dealt with this for WEEKS now. I came into my consultation and appointment knowing my hair would be tough to deal with and care for, and my assistant Rylee did an AMAZING job helping me! All staff I interacted with were very kind, made sure I was comfortable, and throughout the appointment Rylee kept me consistently updated with what she was doing, how long it would take, and what was next. Service requested was very over priced For the quality and experience. I paid the price for a top stylist yet she had an apprentice do at least half of the work which definitely left my displeased. The vivid color used in my hair was washed poorly so my hairline stained a solid red line and I had to wash my hair immediately upon arriving home to fix it since I worked the next day which kind of defeats the salon experience. Staff also left messy splotches of dye on my forehead which also left stains And it was a huge mess all over my ears and neck. Stylist also declined my original color request stating it wasn't possible today (which is okay!) but didn't even inquire what was currently on my hair or ask any other normal consultation questions that I typically experience with other stylists. I am all for paying trained stylists what they deserve especially when they have several years of experience but $400+ for what essentially ended up as very poorly done vivid highlights and stains all over my face/neck was quite the disappointment to say the least and I could have done the vivid color myself without staining my entire head for $20 so I am not likely to return. read more

My experience with Salon Nefisa was one that I would not wish on my worst enemy. It started when I decided to dye my hair, something I've never done before, and I called to have a consultation with Anna. I was very excited since this was all new to me and I just wanted to do something different. Together, Anna and I discussed what I wanted, including pictures, and I was told a natural redhead look was something she was comfortable doing. We took things slow at first, since my hair is naturally quite dark and not in the best condition. Anna suggested lightening it without bleach, which I agreed with, and a week after the consultation this happened (see attached picture). I paid $132 for this look. I knew there was a risk my hair wouldn't be the color I wanted without bleaching, and I wasn't satisfied with the first round of coloring, but I was aware of this before and was okay with taking things further. The third trip to Salon Nefisa, Anna suggested bleaching some highlights in my hair to make the color a more visible shade of red that I wanted. Again, I had met with Anna three times in person and shown her multiple times the look I wanted, and I trusted her as a "professional" to make my desired look happen. My appointment for the highlights started at 6pm and was completed at 8pm. It is here I need to note I am a student studying and working in a professional field, so I am awake and active before 5am every day. This evening, I came directly from work to the salon. Even exhausted, I knew something was wrong with my hair that day. Anna was raving about how "great" my hair looked, though I felt very differently. Unfortunately for me, I am not rude, so I paid the salon and went to sleep, all with a sinking feeling in my stomach that this was not what I asked for. I woke up the next day, utterly horrified (see attached picture). Not only is this not at all the color I wanted and had gone over multiple times with Anna, but she had also straightened my already damaged hair, and it felt like straw. This was not what I thought I was buying with another $214 paid to Salon Nefisa. This is not professional, natural, or pretty. If I wanted crispy, dead hair, a shade of flaming hot red, I would have bought box dye and done it myself. Still, I wanted to be civil. Anna and I both know that this is not what we talked about, so I called Salon Nefisa to see if Anna could fix this. The receptionist was nice and said she would talk with Anna and the manager of Salon Nefisa to see what they could do. That afternoon I got a hostile call from the manager, much to my shock, who said they would NOT fix my hair nor issue me a refund, and that they did NOT need my business. This was so unlike all the other interactions I've had with the salon, and I was taken aback. I tried to explain that I felt I had a good relationship with Anna, but the color isn't one I can wear to work, and I understood her protecting her employees, but I thought there was some miscommunication. I was told "I DID like my hair and was just out to get money back, otherwise I wouldn't have paid" by the manager. As she raised her voice in accusation, I shut down. Let me be clear that this is not about the money, time, or emotional strife this event has cost me. This is about the principle of actions taken by Salon Nefisa and a blatant disregard for common courtesy. I have never been accosted like this, even when working in the customer service industry for years. I am disgusted at the lack of professionalism. I never wanted this look, and quite frankly may lose my job over it since I have no choice but to go to work like this. I can say this was absolutely my first and last time coloring my hair, as Salon Nefisa has completely ruined the experience and left me wary of letting anyone color my hair, and scared to give future criticism to hairdressers. Though I liked Anna as a person, her coloring job was terrible. I do NOT recommend Salon Nefisa and pray that the manager finds peace. read more

First time experience, the salon was very clean and staff was very attentive. I got a French gel mani and was happy with it when I left. The price was reasonable too. However, the very next day it already started to flake and bubble, which should not be the case with shellac gel! I called and they said I could come in and get it fixed free of charge by the girl who did the manicure the first time, but that's time I don't have. Showed stylist photo of my own hair, including the roots wanting it like the picture, did not come out that way, was not nearly as blonde as I would have liked. Was told the price was $161 for full balayage plus around $20 for product (which I was told we probably wouldn't use much more than that) and plus haircut price (which only took 10 minutes and was a all one length cut) ended up being $30 more than we had discussed at the beginning. Very disappointed. I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time and then got a rushed cut with my hair dry. I had a lot of static in my hair and she did not wet it down. One side of my hair is at least 1/4 inch longer than the other side, as well as one side has more layers than the other side and the back is horrible! So devastated. I went to Anna, whom I have only been to a total of three times now. She worked miracles the first and second time, but this time missed the mark totally! I had a very bad experience here. I brought in lots of pictures of the highlights I wanted and I ended up completely blonde with terrible looking roots. It is super streaky and looks very careless and sloppy. I was also not informed of the expensive price (more than my friend had gotten hers done for here) until the service had already begun. I was on tour with a theatre company when I visited Salon Nefisa. We had one free day in Columbia. Three of us made appointments. We had to take a cab into downtown, but our appointments were perfectly scheduled and executed that there was no unnecessary sitting around. One of the girls who came with me did a full color and cut. She was in the chair at 9am, the next girl at 9:45am while the color set, and I sat down at 10:05am. The young ladies at the salon were amazing. Each of us were delighted with the results. The prices were very reasonable for the wonderful service we received. It was a wonderful experience. Maddie was wonderful, spent over an hour treating, cutting and styling my hair and giving me recommendations for products and styling tips, and best of all made my difficult hair look great :) Staff was very nice - I was offered a drink several times - and scheduling was easy, they got me in same day and were apologetic about it being so late (I was just ecstatic to get an appointment!) To preface, I acknowledge that every stylist differs and this review is not to bash Salon Nefisa. I'm unsure if other stylists are like this or not, but I want to share my opinion of my past 2 experiences with their stylist, Maddie. Again, this is my personal experience and may differ from your expectations/experiences. I usually get a costly balayage 1-2x/year and once a month, I'll redo my roots with box dye. I cannot afford anything more than that and it works for me! When she first touched my hair, she told me how dry and damaged it was. I chuckled and acknowledged that it could be worked on a little bit. She asked me what products I use, and I said drug store shampoo. She then lectured me on the damage it brings and how much better Redken (the brand Salon Nefisa endorses) products are. I am always aware of this and choose to use drug store products because they're less expensive obviously. Throughout both appointments, she continued to lecture me on not using high-end products and using box dye. It felt more like a confrontation than a relaxing time at the salon. I do NOT pay to be lectured. I AM aware it is her obligation to educate me about my hair, but she can do it without a condescending demeanor. Then she said I HAD to purchase a keratin treatment that added to my overall balayage cost. She said would not do the balayage without a costly keratin treatment. Like WHAT? I will not ever see her again. I may see another stylist, but most likely, I will steer clear of Salon Nefisa. read more

This is the best salon in Columbia. I've lived in Columbia for 25 years and have not had an experience near as wonderful as I have had at Salon Nefisa. I was married this past August and thank goodness for Salon Nefisa and my stylist, Amanda! Not only for my big day, but also for the 18 months leading up to that. Amanda made sure that my hair would look its BEST on my day. Amanda timed my visits and tried everything I might like. She completely catered to my every need. On my big day, Amanda traveled to Hermann, Missouri to my venue, and did hair until all of my bridal party and I looked perfect (she was thrown 3 extra heads to do, by the way). Recently visited the West Broadway location for a basic cut and was there, maybe a total of 35 minutes. I did not do the shampoo/conditioning option as it wasn't recommended by the stylist (just had my hair colored a few days before). From what I saw on the website, a 30-minute cut ranged from $32-$42 and that was for a basic cut, no shampoo or finishing. When I went to pay the haircut was $55. I didn't think much of it at the time until I realized I spent $70 after tip for a quick, basic haircut. I contacted the store about it and they said it was $55 for a 45-minute cut. I looked on their website again and saw that a 45-minute cut included a shampooing and finishing and ranged from $45-65. Just be careful when going here as you may want to check first with them about the actual cost before you get a cut. Be sure you get what you are paying for. I felt the price I paid for what I received was way too much. read more

so! I think that it is a good experience with a pretty bad end result. I went to get my hair cut, and explained pretty well what I do. I have an undercut because I have a lot of hair, want to cut my hair between the middle of my neck and shoulder, and get curtain bangs. I got my hair washed, was talking , and reminded her I need my glasses to see but had even shown where I would like it cut. When she cut it, it is now at my earlobes right above my chin. that is a good 3-4 inches above what I wanted. When it comes to cutting hair, I can't really tell you that's too short in the process of cutting it. It's already been done ya know? I'm not a super loud person but I got pretty upset so When I told her i felt like it was short, she said that it was because she styled it with a blow brush and then mentioned that my hair dries straight so it should be right where I want it. She did straighten it... and it's definitely very short. Like Edna from The Incredibles or Dora short. Also- My hair dries wavy, so if i don't straighten it it's going to be a very odd placed cut (which i learned this morning). I don't think she's a bad stylist, I'll probably end end up going back for very small cuts with contacts in- even if that makes me feel pushy. But that is kind of ridiculous to have that much of a deviation. I know that it happens, and that itll grow back. but looks like i'm doing updos for the next month or two until my hair is where I want it. I didn't make a fuss, but walking over to my car to call my mom and cry about it definitely wasn't my favorite thing in the world. But- I will say my stylist was extremely nice, and she did seem to know what she was doing. I think if I was able to see a little better so I could put in more input, it would have been an amazing haircut. I just am a little more than dissapointed- so two stars feels like the move. read more
