Went for a girl's day in COMO including pedicures at Varsity Nails. The technicians were super nice and did a great job.

I have been going to salon for almost 4 years. Today I had an appointment for a gel manicure and had a difference and had a an with a nail technician I been to before. I was told that my nails were drying out and I should consider taking a break from gel . I agreed to not have the gel manicure and have the gel polish removed. When I went to check out, I was charged for a full manicure and really do not believe that was fair. The other thing that I am upset about was, I asked another nail a few months ago if a person should take a break from and was told that there was no need for this. So now I am out $48 and did not get the service I requested. I will certainly be looking for another nail salon if I ever decide to get manicures again, very disappointing. One thing that I usually look forward to is getting my manicures guess I'll just do my own from now on. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Jessica. She did a great job on the nails, but didn't clean up or push back the cuticles. I have gone to varsity nails multiple times, the nail techs are very dramatic, always gossiping, arguing with each other, etc. Not professional at all. My nail tech was brought chipotle and stopped doing my nails to go retrieve it. I will not be returning. read more

Got a CANCELLATION notice in my email AFTER my appointment with a link to their cancellation policy saying I'm responsible for the full fee if I'm a no-show. So disappointed. read more

The worst nail salon I have ever been to in my entire life. I have been getting my nails done for years and have never experienced something like this. They let me walk out of the salon with a messed up nail and basically took a chunk of my skin off and it's still numb and in paint. Not to mention these disgusting nails took 2 and a half hours. Stopped by during my recent visit to see the kids. Made a last minute appointment for two pedicures which they were more then willing to accommodate without any hesitation. Arrived to the big smile of Betty. She was fun, professional, and a great conversation. I really enjoyed her attention to detail and her willingness to work some areas with precision. She was also a wealth of information that I haven't heard from others. Why is that important, well it's simple CUSTOMER SERVICE. Betty has it down and she is really a true asset to this operator. While I don't come in but a handful of times throughout the year. I encouraged my daughters and their friends to visit Betty in the future. was there for 3 hours only for the manager to tell me i wasn't there for that long. i requested a white dip manicure and got a sparkly clear manicure. when i said it was wrong the lady then started painting my nails white. all i wanted was a white dip manicure. tried to get some of my money back because i got charged a full dip manicure. the manager then called me and basically told me i was wrong the entire time. my nails look like complete shit for my graduation photos. read more

honestly, this isn't the worst nail salon in Columbia and it's also nowhere near the best. if you want basic slightly shitty nails that can still pass as decent, then this is your place hands down. I paid 80$ for a pedicure, which looked like I did them myself. The color I choose was white, I guess that's not an easy color to apply?? it did not look worth 80$ maybe 30 at best. The massage just included some sugar scrub, a little oil, Lukewarm water, and slightly buffing the bottom of my feet. I called 2 times and left a detailed message. No one called me back. Then I got to my 2pm appointment and checked in. No one handed me a book or anything to look at colors. I waited 40 mins before someone realized. Then they said they couldn't find me in the system and asked who checked me in. Then they told me that my appointment was across the street at another location. The women who checked me in never told me. They fit me in at the location I was at. They discounted me $10. I was overall very happy with the manicure when I left. Then a day later my nail chipped. Also, I'm from Chicago. Everything is expensive in Chicago. I pay $10 less for my no chip manicure at home. I also think it's insane that you charge to take nails off. I will not be coming back. read more

Came here for the first time today to get a pedicure for a wedding tomorrow. Definitely recommend having an appointment because had I not had one today I wouldn't haven been able to get in! I tried for several hours to make an apt over the phone but it kept going to voice mail so I drove in, paid to park because like another review stated parking is an issue... walked in as they advertised walk in welcome. Person who helped was extremely nice she said they can't fit me in today, I told her I've been calling since noon. She said she's not sure where the receptionist is (? What??) anyway. I've been getting my nails done at Varsity nails since 2010. They always do an excellent job and are very professional. I like that the salon allows for appointments and the option to choose who you'd like to complete your services. I do wish they had a rewards program instead of memberships. The services are very costly and there are no perks but all in all it's the only place I'll go. read more

I went in for a dip mani and Sam asked to practice the Aprés set so she could be put on the books to do that service. I'm over two weeks wearing these nails--no chips, lifting or any wear. I've never had nails look like this going on three weeks. Sam was so professional and nice and the other nail technicians were also so nice and welcoming. I'm honestly shook about how my nails are still perfect. Highly recommend this service as well as this business. Aprés may seem pricey up front but they last longer than anything I've seen. This was my first manicure & pedicure experience ever. And first impressions are everything. My little sister got married this winter and she wanted our hands (and feet) to look beautiful. In my opinion, we went to the right place. Open early on a Friday, we were the first on the appointment list. Upon opening the door we were greeting with the familiar smell of ...pumpkin spice? Usually you'll catch a whiff of a nail salon from a block away, and it's more like a mix of paint thinner and gasoline. I'm not sure what the secret is to keeping their salon from smelling like a fire hazard, but whatever they've uncovered is a gem. Friendly, expert staff. Even early in the morning, we were greeted warmly and made to feel comfortable. I got a fabulous massage, toe redesign (and even those embarrassing Hobbbit-hairs trimmed). Great selection of colors and very fashionable, to boot. All the rage last winter were dark festive browns, purples and reds, which stood out on their first page of "recommended for the season." All four of us were expertly ushered to our massage chairs, warmly soaked in sea salts, exfoliated, buffed and polished to lady-like perfection. My fingernails took a beating that winter and the polish lasted a week and a half... longer than any paint job I've ever done myself. Impressed. Close to campus. Reasonably priced. This place is ok, I'm new to columbia and I was looking for a place that does stiletto nail unfortunately this is the only place I found that does them. The girl that was doing my nails had her 5 month old baby there, I was very patient with her when she had to stop to console her crying baby (who was adorable by the way) being a parent myself I tried to sympathize with her. But that was not a deal breaker for me. I'm from Austin,Tx and there are great nail artist at every corner, this nail salon is kind of mediocre. She did an ok job, but that may be because she was rushing through because of her baby being there or maybe she's just not that experienced at doing stiletto nails idk but my nails were very lumpy and they were not all the same length. You might have a better experience there, it wasn't so bad that I'd recommend you don't try it for yourselves. read more

Kendra does an AMAZING job with my nails. I love that they hand sculpt and don't glue on tips. They come out very natural which is what I always want. I can't wait to try some fun designs. Also had a pedicure with savannah which was incredible. Varsity Nails is THE best nail salon I've ever been to. I've been going to Bobbi on Elm for about 3 years now and no one else can compare. Currently, I'm in another city and need to get my acrylic filled before I'll be able to be back in Columbia. Every salon I've looked at either looks dirty, has bad reviews, or does not offer the services I get at Varsity. Bobbi goes above and beyond for her clients and she treats me like a friend, not simply someone who is paying her to do a service. I honestly can't speak highly enough of Bobbi. She is the best. Her work is always incredible and since I'm super indecisive I always let her pick my color. Sometimes I question her choice before she puts it on my nails but it always always always looks amazing. Recently, she's convinced me to get stiletto acrylics which always look fabulous. If you can't tell, I looooove Varsity and Bobbi! If you can't get an appointment with Bobbi (she's usually booked a week in advance), Jessica Rose on Elm is wonderful too! read more

A little expensive, but worth it! My tech was Jessica Rose, and she was miraculously able to fit me in to do my nails 4 days before my wedding! I liked her quality of work and the time she put into ensuring the details of her nail art were perfect. The rhinestones didn't start to fall off my fingers for almost 3 weeks and so far the polish hasn't even chipped yet- I'm very impressed. Another aspect I really liked was that they shape the acrylic onto your nail instead of using press on ones- I've had uncomfortable experiences with the press on ones in the past. But, these nails feel very comfortable and natural which is a big factor to me, I'd definitely become a repeat customer. read more

My friend and I were in town for the weekend and called at 2 on a Saturday for an appointment that day. We got in two hours later, and the manicures were excellent. I had a vertical split in two of my nails, and Chi repaired them so beautifully you can't tell which nails are damaged. Cuticle removal was gentle and my nails still look and feel great two days later. My friend had a polish change and they were careful to remove her gel polish with foil, rather than a drill, to protect the nail. Our nails were completely dry with minimal dry time. We were delighted. I strongly recommend Varsity and would return if I were in town. read more

Received a pedi that lasted for 15mins. Didn't receive cuticle work and massage was very quick. While I liked my polish color the application of the polish was thick and bubbly. Overall it was a very rushed service and it seemed my service provider had somewhere else to be. read more

I do not recommend this place. I went to get my nails done on Thursday because I was going out of town and they chipped by Friday. I called Friday to let them know and request for them to be fixed but no one called me back like they were supposed to. I had to call back again today to follow up. The girl who did them was very nice but their products really suck. My nails got fixed today and two of them are already peeling off, again. My new favorite nail salon in Columbia! I went to the location on 9th street and made an appointment with Holly. I love that I was able to book an appointment online with ease. Holly gave me an OPI GelColor manicure and did a great job. The store was clean and the staff was friendly. With my manicure came a free paraffin wax (which I've never done before) and loved it. Basically they dip your hands in some type of warm wax, let it dry for a couple of minute and then remove it. It's suppose to moisturize your hands and makes them feel silky smooth. They also have a policy that if your nails start to chip within 4 days, they'll fix them for free. Overall great experience, I will be going back, and shout out to Holly read more

This is the ONLY place I will go for my nails, pedis, and waxes. I see Jennifer and as much as I hate to give her good praise (knowing it will make her harder and harder to get in to see) she really is the best manicurist. ever. She stands by her work and always goes above and beyond for me. I also trust her with all my waxing. She is INCREDIBLY thorough and fast- making brazillians a breeze and done within 15-20 min. I can't say enough good things about her and the staff there. I always feel welcome by Jackie, the other gals and the owner himself. Even if there is a wait, it's well worth it. I buy gift cards for my staff and friends, even princess manicures and pedis for my son's little girlfriends. Not to mention the cute decor, chandeliers, yellow and black (Mizzou) toile... my son has no problem accompanying me since they have a plethora of candy, pretzels, bottled water and free ice cream coupons next door at Varsity cuts, and often I will get his hair cut while I pamper myself. Which is quite a nice touch for a single mom. A great place to go... even if you do have to wait because a walk in ran a little longer. Or someone like me came in to get a broken nail fixed. They recently changed reservation/Computer systems as well, so hopefully all of that will address a few negative reviews by some of the folks on here. Go see Jackie or Jennifer. The first time I went to Varsity, I got a subpar pedicure. The second time I went (after much convincing from a friend to try it again) for a French acrylic full set. Incredible disappointing experience. I've lived in Como for about a year now and I have a nail tech I love so when he went on vacation for a week I knew I was gonna try out Varsity since I had seen so many beautiful nails from them since moving here. Imagine my disappointment when I come in to a shop where the receptionist is yelling behind her to a nail tech about pricing. Ive worked in a nail salon as a receptionist before and I would have lost my job if I was behaving as this girl was ( I guess it pays to be the owners daughter). Additionally I waited for at least 15-20 when there were clearly nail tech open...just for my nail tech to walk thru the door right as I was about to get up and leave. Now it should be noted that I asked the receptionist if the could do a particular design so when I sit down with my nail tech and show her what I want just for her to tell me she can't do it and every time she attempt it the results turn out poorly. Then I show her another design to which she tells me, we can't do that cause we don't have any of those colors. What bother me the most wasn't the fact that she could do the design or that they didn't have the color it's the way they made me feel...Unwelcomed and unwanted. The guy that was sitting next to the window made it known he had another appointment and couldn't be bothered to assist or really even care. For such beautiful nails to come out of that shop I was really expecting a much better experience. I left frustrated, disappointed and honestly a little hurt by my interaction. Like I did something wrong by coming in to request a service I had full intentions on paying for and tipping well. Needless to say I won't ever be going back and while I know my business isn't gonna stop theirs I hope this review just makes the next girl aware of what may happen to her. read more

There is nothing special about this place unless you enjoy paying ridiculous prices for generic services. It was also probably one of my most uncomfortable experiences getting my nails done considering the nail tech barely said one word to me, and the only thing that could have made it worse was the price... $33 for a fill? Absolutely not. Perhaps some live entertainment would have been nice or even a nice hand massage, but nope! i stopped in the other day to get a pedicure and gel manicure for vacation - i'd never been in before. jessica jane did both my services. she was pleasant when interacting, though once i left i noticed that the work done on my nails was not good. after 2 days, my gel began to chip on one of my fingers. i stopped back into the salon and someone else repaired the nail. the technician who completed the repair was very kind and informed me that the nail was chipping because the previous technician (jessica jane) had not capped the edge of the nail correctly. due to the inconvenience, the owner gave me a coupon. though, hours after leaving the salon i noticed that 2 other nails began to chip! i've had gel done many times and have never experienced this. typically it lasts several weeks. i went ahead and purchased the color so that i can just paint over the chips if i have any others while on vacation. if i had the time i would just go to another salon and have it all re-done properly. while the facilities at varsity were clean and jessica jane was pleasant during the service, i would not recommend her work. if you decide to stop into varsity, i suggest choosing another technician for high quality, lasting work. read more

I really, really hate to write negative reviews, but I am going to have to for this place. I had heard a lot of great things about it, and it is so cute on the inside. I really wanted to like it, I really did! However, I just think it is inexcusable for all the employees to be running so behind. I had an appointment at 5:30, and they didn't even start my pedicure until after 6:00. Also, after my acrylics were done everyone had left and I felt totally rushed (I usually like to sit there for awhile and wait for my nails to dry).
