It seemed that every salon on yelp in Huntsville had something quirky about it or the reviews were over 5 years old. When I heard good things about Neo Mode AND its owners from family and friends, I thought that I would give it a try. Neo Mode has been in Huntsville for over 20 years and I was a little surprised that this salon didn't have any reviews on yelp but after learning that they recently moved that made sense. When I called to make an appointment the receptionist was friendly and got me in the next day. I also received a text message confirming my appointment which was nice! Day of the appointment: Neo Mode is conveniently located in the same shopping center as Publix and Little Rosie's. The salon is sandwiched in between T-Mobile and the Hallmark store. Inside is clean and has a shabby chic feel. I was even offered a beverage while I waited. Travis was my hairstylist and we talked so much I felt like we had already been friends. I told him how I wanted my haircut and he cut it exactly like I asked for. When he was finished he didn't try to sell me anything that I didn't need. He was professional, funny and gave me a great haircut. I felt so pampered and love my haircut. I will definitely go back and you should too! Plus the price for a haircut is about 1/4 of what I used to pay in Atlanta!! Thank you Neo Mode and Travis!

RUN, don't walk, away from Neo Mode Hair Salon…read more What started as an appointment for a simple root touch-up somehow ended with me being told to leave because "the law had been called." Yes--over a root touch-up! I found Neo Mode through the September issue of Huntsville CityStyle Magazine. A stylist was prominently featured in the article, although his name wasn't mentioned. The same stylist was prominently displayed on Neo Mode's website. I reasonably assumed he was available and booked an appointment with Travis Edwards for September 18 at 2:15 p.m. Here's where the timeline gets important: I MADE THE APPOINTMENT. I booked Travis Edwards through Neo Mode's online booking system for September 18 at 2:15 p.m. for a root touch-up only. I RECEIVED TWO CONFIRMATIONS. I received one confirmation from Vagaro, their online booking system, and another confirmation directly from Neo Mode. Based on those confirmations, I believed my appointment was scheduled and confirmed. I then canceled another appointment I had scheduled for September 16 with a different salon. THEN, ON SEPTEMBER 2, NEO MODE CONTACTED ME. I was told that Travis was not available for future clients. The problem was, Neo mode acting as if the appointment I had scheduled did not exist. So, my question was: What about the appointment I had already made and that had already been confirmed? Also, it was irrelevant to Neo mode that I had canceled my previous appointment at another salon. I pointed out that Travis's bio did not say he was unavailable to future clients, while other stylists' bios specifically indicated when they weren't accepting future clients. Later that same day, I received a voicemail and text message from Lauren Knox, the owner, saying again that Travis was not available for future clients. Lauren Knox did offer to schedule me with another stylist, but I wanted the stylist that was prominently displayed in their article and on their website, and with who I already received two confirmations that I had an appointment with. During that conversation, Lauren Knox indicated that Travis had reconsidered and would do my already-scheduled appointment. I then made a comment that I thought it was presumptuous to assume I would want to be a "future client" when I hadn't even had my first appointment yet. After that comment, the situation changed again, and I was told the appointment would not be happening. And this is where the communication became extremely confusing. I had gone from: Confirmed appointment, then told Travis wasn't taking future clients, then told the existing appointment would be honored, and then told the appointment was canceled. I was never given clear official written notification that my September 18 appointment had been canceled. In my final text to Lauren Knox I specifically pointed out that I had received two written confirmations of my appointment but had not received an official written cancellation. I told her that unless I received official notification that the appointment was canceled, I would be there on September 18 at 2:15 p.m. And I was. SEPTEMBER 18 -- THE APPOINTMENT I arrived at Neo Mode at the exact date and on time for the appointment. I was refused service. After some back-and-forth between Lauren Knox and I, a man who I believe to be her husband came out and told me to leave, saying "the law had been called." I left. I didn't need anyone to make me leave. I went to Publix and bought groceries. The whole thing started with a root touch-up appointment that Neo Mode had confirmed twice in writing. I had an appointment. I received two confirmations. The stylist was prominently displayed in their magazine article and on their website, as if he was available for an appointment I never received a clear written cancellation. I showed up exactly when I said I would. And I was refused service. Neo Mode's website has changed now. The person who said "the law" had been called, picture has been removed, and Travis Edwards bio says he's not taking new clients. That's not the kind of customer service I expect from a professional business. There are plenty of top notch salons, that would honor appointments that they previously committed to, without turning your appointment into a customer service catastrophe.
