I was new to the area, and with the winter weather, my skin was getting very dry and breaking out more than usual, so I decided to schedule a facial. When I arrived, I was welcomed by someone who seemed to be either the teacher or the owner. A student performed the facial while the teacher observed and occasionally offered guidance. The place was clean and you can get haircuts and nails too. The treatment itself was extremely mild--honestly one of the mildest facials I've had in over 20 years of getting professional treatments. She went through everything from how to line my eyes, use of shadow depending on my mood, and even getting rid of my chapped lips. With every consultation, she gives her clients a free eyebrow shaping, which worked out well because I was long overdue! Cynde took me about fifteen minutes late for my appointment, which I really didn't mind, especially because she ran well over the one hour time slot making sure she went over different looks and perfecting my makeover. While she has her own makeup line available for sale, I explained my current financial situation and she didn't pressure me to buy anything, which was much appreciated. I did buy a couple things (it was my birthday after all) and I love her cream eyeshadow that I use as a base to keep powder shadow put, a lip pumice, and a lip gloss - all of which I love. While I am sure there are other places where you can do something like this, I have yet to come across them. I was planning on watching a couple Youtube videos to get some new ideas, but it was so much more fun to have a lesson custom for your face and color palate. We've been happy with our treatment and stylist, but a friend recently switched to Jasmine and said the results were better than ever. My daughter had 2 days home between summer adventures so I figured it was worth trying Jasmine. She was booked when I reached out, but then the week of let me know she had a cancellation and could take her - whoo hoo! The entire process took 4.5 hours, which is long, but crazy enough less than the 5+ hours we usually spend doing this treatment. Jasmine herself was was super friendly and confident that my daughters hair would be better than ever with this treatment. I was hopeful, but skeptical. She got to work right away with a few assistants helping with the process. When I picked up my daughter I was shocked how straight and smooth her hair was after just running a blow dryer thru it for a few minutes. My daughter was thrilled, although she hoped it would be a little wavy after braids since she doesn't like it perfectly straight. She took off for camp the next day, but the only letter I've gotten in the mail is (no joke) "my hair is totally straight." And based on the camp pictures I've been amazed by how well it took to her hair. It looks a little wavy at the ends and I'm guessing she's likely sleeping in braids to get it to curl a bit. We usually have to do this treatment every 5 months. Jasmine thought every 6-12 months, but our roots grow in so curly that I'd be shocked if we could go that long. I'm also interested in trying Jasmine for the magic sleek, but she thought other treatments would be better for my blonde (highlighted) hair like the keratin express. It's tough to please a 13 year old when it comes to hair (and other things), but I think Jasmine did it!

I have been going and spreading the gospel of Shana for all the years since my last review. Because I moved to St Louis and then covid ruined my year in Chicago, I didn't get to have many haircuts with her in the past six years, but I did when I could, and the few times I've had to settle for an emergency haircut elsewhere (Chicago Chinatown, flushing new york, etc) , no one was good as her. To me, what makes her incredibly special is how great my hair can look without any effort. I am a very low maintenance person, and no one else has ever given me a haircut that looks great just by me air drying my hair lazily. Plus, if I let my hair grow out, it somehow maintains some semblance of shape for a long, long time. How!! It's magic. Nowhere else have I been able to get this. Sure this is just one person's low maintenance needs. But honestly it's a big ask for a stylist - give me a nonboring haircut, but I don't want it to look like crap when I don't style it. No one else has been able to do achieve that for me. And from the time I've spent in the waiting area/waiting for my hair to dye, etc, and seeing other clients come through, it is clear Shana strives to understand each person's needs individually. And of course she's always offering advice based on each person (that you should always listen to!) All the things I said in my previous review are true still, she is of course a skilled technician. But also magical, to me at least. And I know it's just hair! But it was always great knowing I could always rely on Shana for a great haircut, and this void has been hard to fill now that I moved.
