Soooooooo happy I took a chance on this place!! I made the stupid mistake of cutting my own hair and somehow completely butchered it. I was freaked out and embarrassed, but too broke to entertain going to get it fixed. Then I remembered I had a sizable Groupon credit! Hooray! Well I bought, then canceled, 2 other salon's deals before this, after calling to make an appointment and both times having really bad service. Not a good sign! So I was really nervous about going here after all that. But as soon as I met my stylist, Jenny, I knew I was in good hands! She was so sweet; totally didn't judge me for my horrible chop job which I absolutely appreciated. The salon was beautiful, clean and everyone very friendly. And now, I absolutely LOVE MY HAIR! I cheated on my hair dresser. Yes, you read right but don't hang me just yet. So I decided to go dark after 15+ years of having light hair. I missed my dark hair and wanted to see it again. So...I went to a salon near me and got it done. I liked it but after a month I was missing my light hair. It started to turn orange and I said I must call Serkan to the rescue. My back was turned when he walked in and I heard, " you colored your hair dark"? My heart sank to my feet, my heart was racing, I got the cold sweats and I turned whiter than what I already am. I turned around and said "heyyyyyy." That didn't work at all. I got caught red handed. Serkan wasn't happy but he did turn my burnt, crunchy munchy hair back to life. I don't remember the last time I left a salon feeling so confident. I knew I wanted to go lighter I just wasn't sure how blond I wanted to be. Serkan was amazing! He and I sat down and discussed what I wanted and he gave some suggestions and I really felt like I could trust him. He did such an amazing job and I literally can't thank him enough. I came in thinking I would just get a color job, but I ended up getting baylage which I love so much. He also gave me a fabulous haircut, cutting just as much as I asked (which doesn't happen at every salon). The salon itself has this really high class vibe and it's pretty decently priced for the services you get. Prior to coming here, I went to a different salon to get balayage done for the summer. They bleached my hair three times to get my hair to ashy blonde-- which is so much lighter than what I asked for, they didn't even do balayage on my hair when I clearly asked for that the second I sat on the chair. (I'll insert a photo of what I wanted and what I got) Long story short, my hair was damaged, not what I wanted and I was beyond disappointed. I'm never going back there again. Tonight Beth updates my cut by "squaring" the bottom of my usual tress request, lots and lots of layers Bethway... her way. We chitchatted easily as she deliberated away for an hour. I love her. She's like an old girl friend who'd never Not let you know her God honest truth about almost anything you'd likely ask her. Beth is a hair care/product phenom and coddles my hair like an infant. Going to her is like bringing my hair on a honeymoon getaway- really. And compared to a lot of women, I don't do it nearly enough for all its done for me. Color by Beth, 6.1.17 update Grew tired of outgrown balayage so we decided to darker. Beth was a big proponent of the most natural look. Results are below in the newest pictures and I'm in love! Always the expert- go to someone who treats your hair like it's a baby, then you know your hair is in the hands of a doctor. Layers by Beth. In the most unassuming way, she makes you feel at ease and that she is in charge. Beth said, show me your pictures and listened as I showed her 10 pictures of dos and don'ts specific to my hair type, and specific, of course, to my taste. Ask a lot now, and not after the fact is ALWAYS my motto when it comes to hair! She got it right away. A lot of volume while keeping it long. I could see concurrence in her eyes. As we chatted away our lives easily, Beth sculpted. Minutely. She reassured me that she took off a little at a time and had to see how it laid on me. The 3rd? time Beth went around to add layers, she said it would be "perfect"... the "perfect length". I kept on agreeing. It was hard to say no to her. Beth told me to sit forward and play with my hair the way I would style it all home so I ran my hand down my head and positioned the front like so? It was light and luscious. I shook my head a few times too. I bowed my head so that she could see how the layers laid that way- a few more adjustments. The layering was looking on point... I mean on fleek... I mean damn good. Beth said stand so I did. A few more cut-sways and we were seconds from the final product. I met a hair psychologist today who gifted me with generous volume which she dubbed "fat hair" and we both agreed, that was the only acceptable time to call anything FAT. I've gone for a haircut once here. Nothing too extraordinary, just a decent cut. The guy who cut my hair was a little judgemental about my previous haircut. I ignored it though and tipped well regardless. The reason I went was the convenience. I cancelled my second appointment I made for balyage because of the price, tried to make a third appointment today and they said I couldn't EVER make appointments with them because of the cancellation which they phrased as a "no show" from 5 months ago. Amazing Service and People! I knew this was going to be a great experience from the moment I spoke with them on the phone to make an appointment. The first clue was that the cutter referred to the front desk person as "my secretary," rather than the old Brooklyn euphemism, "the girl." Second, they let me talk directly to a cutter, who set up an appointment for me. When my roommate and I got there, the cutter they had set me up with noted that his specialties were long hair and color, and that Beth was the specialist for short hair. I agreed to let her work on me, and I was not disappointed! The cut looks great, she was pleasant and really listened to what I wanted, and she even managed to fit my roommate in for a cut (which also came out great. I went in for my appointment with Beth and she is the real deal I love how she took the time to get to know me and ask me what I wanted. I went to salon evolution last Sunday to get highlights plus color of my choice and my mom got single process color to cover her grey. Fast forward I specifically told my stylist I wanted gold brown color for my highlights. I don't know what color she used or didn't use because my hair half dark blonde and half light blonde with only 1 -2 strands medium golden brown. My mom wanted chocolate color for her hair but her stylist said it won't color because my mom has been using box dye from store for a long time so she settled with light mocha color. Tuesday my mom washed her hair out and saw her roots were turning grey. I called the salon and they told me to come in on Mothers day and they will fix it. Once we got there, my moms stylist said that my moms roots were growing and she can't color it again because my mom has thick hair and a lot of color was used the first time. when asked about the mocha brown color (which looks completely black btw) she said that my mom came in the first time with dark roots and red strands (ok, your point? she is paying you to color a certain color, its your job to listen) anyway all my mom got was sorry there is nothing we can do. ME on the other hand my stylist said that she was willing to glaze my hair the color I wanted for an extra $65 because I have a lot of hair?? like are you for real? when I first told you last Sunday that U wanted medium golden brown then why do blonde? overall I am disappointed, they made the mistake and they need to correct it since we paid over $350 total for both services. We will never go back to them again. At least be professional and correct the mistakes you made. wasted half of our mothers day. Im sure they were in a hurry to leave. but Im disappointed, for the price we paid, both of us aren't satisfied. I recommend you all to look else where. I live in the capital district of New York but the illness of a family member brought me back to Brooklyn, where I moved from over forty years ago. After a month here I realized I need a haircut so asked friends for recommendations. One was Salon Evolution in Sheepshead Bay. After calling and confirming they accept walk-ins, I walked in around 1:00. A quiet young woman was assigned to wash my hair and a hairdresser named Julia was assigned to do the cut. Julia and I talked about my hair, she looked at the existing cut and I told her about my lifestyle. I don't use a towel on my hair, preferring a technique called "plopping" (check youTube), in which a 100% cotton tee shirt is used to dry the hair, causing natural waves. my preference is a natural look so I use no electrical appliances....no hair dryer or iron. We agreed on a cut of just under one inch and Julia started cutting. We chatted as she cut and after the haircut, she combed it, I rejected the blow dry and we laughed when she said she has no tee shirt. Julia used a little mousse and we hand scrunched with a final result that dried beautifully. I love my hair! This salon's hairdresser heard me and that's the sign of a really good salon. Based on the Yelp reviews, I made an appointment with Shade. I got a haircut and a glaze. The salon itself is quite nice on the inside - I've been to a lot more "high end" salons in Manhattan that are considerably worse than this - it's clean, the chairs are comfortable, and everything looks fairly new Shade is sweet and lovely and clearly knows what she's doing without making much of a fuss. I knew exactly what I wanted without bringing in photos, she got the color swatches for the glaze, and we made sure we were on the same page. I'm getting back to my natural color eventually, so I asked for the glaze to even out some old balayage that is just reddish and brassy in tone. My hair cut was exactly what I asked for. It was probably the first haircutting experience since living in NYC I didn't a) hate my hair and b) feel ripped off. I'm not exactly sure why I was quoted $70 on the phone and charged $105, but it was still a good price and I was happy with it, so I left it. I would definitely return if I stay in NYC for longer. read more

I used to go to this salon many times with two different people. I liked them both but eventually one of them is just someone who I rather stay clear from. I used to rave about this place to others and my photo is one of the pics on yelp from amazing results I had in the past. However, I had an incident a few months ago that I didnt think needed to be shared and just let go.However, I think it is worth mentioning even if its been a while. I had highlights done in the summer and during my appointment the girl who did my hair does an amazing job coloring and foiling which is awesome and nice. However my last session in the summer was everything but great. In fact it was horrible! I had bleach in my hair and I was made to go under the heat. I was left there for a while to the point where my hair was frying and i can hear it sizzle. The girl who did my hair kept talking to a co worker and barely paid attention to me. As soon as my appointment was done my hair was brushed and there was a lot of hair falling out on the brush. I left thinking that its normal some hair loss from bleach but it was literal clumps. The front of my head where the front layers are it looked like bangs that I did not ask for. I called the next day and the same girl Fabiana was asked to put a conditioner or something to fix it and it worked. The owner asked her to style as a curtesy which I appreciated along with free shampoo and conditioner to fix the damage. Nice touch and only reason I am giving this a 2 star. Fabianna had an attitude the whole time as if she was in disbelief about what happened or and she did not look happy. I understand things happen but do not take your stuff out on paying clients who you ruined their hair and now asked to fix. I wanted to thank her for her services aftewards and I realized she blocked me. This experience left such a bad taste in my mouth. I did not want to write a bad review at first but I feel like it needs to be shared. As much as the place is cute and offers better prices than others as well as a kind owner. Been searching high and low for somewhere to cut my long curly mane. When pulled taught it was mid back. Due to stress all my hair was falling out in massive golf ball sizes every time I washed it. It was a very traumatic experience. I was very attached to my hair and people associated me with my wild mane. I had new hair growing in and it just looked really awful when I tried to wear it out. All that to say I was really unhappy and wanted to cut everything and start from scratch. After a couple weeks of looking for something reasonably priced ($80 was reasonable in most $$ salons). I came across this little gem last minute. I saw a few short cuts on yelp that were done by Shade so I called, was told haircuts were $35 and made an appointment. I was her last appointment of the day on a Friday 12/9/16. I was on time and was greeted warmly. She gave me a thorough shampoo/massage as we talked about my hair issues and maybe future hair color. I showed her a few pics. I wanted something from all of them. After a little confusion and talking through she finally understood what I wanted lol... and I'm very happy with the end result. I think the next time I see her it will just get better since all the hard work is done. I ended up paying $43 without Tip. Maybe it was tax and using a debit card. I don't know and don't care. Serkan cut my hair last week and I loved that he listened to what I wanted, mostly kept my length but cut off a lot of the dead ends. Today I went back to dye my hair, also with Serkan. I showed him what I wanted but he was honest and said it was unattainable in just one time. Instead of ruining my hair even more and just taking money from me he explained what the best course of action was my hair and I completely agree that he is right.
