Got my hair curled here a few years ago to see if they could do it for prom. The stylist touched my ear with the curling iron--ouch--and I was disappointed with the results immediately after (see attached photo). One time my colorist at Salon Gio was not in and I went to another senior member of the staff. I had light brown hair and walked out with almost black hair. Before hand, I asked her if a card was on file with my color instructions, she said yes. Obviously not. Very unprofessional and unacceptable. An apology was not enough. read more

This place is great, my wife goes here often for deep pore cleaning facials and she loves it. She recently had a graduation party and many people who attended gave her Salon Gio gift certificates because they know how much she loves it there. The prices are average for the services they offer and the place is beautiful, i went there to buy a gift certificate and i had a quick look around and it's top quality. It does not look big from the outside but it's grand inside. I plan on getting a deep tissue massage from here soon. read more

This salon is beautiful however I didn't get what I wanted I got a basic highlight job i wasn't happy with the service I felt rushed I had to wait for her to do someone's hair cause she over booked I sat their for 3 hours and didn't get anything like the picture I showed . My hair doesn't look bad but I wanted a lil more chunky look and got a thin high light look and the assistant was rough my scalp hurt for two days this place is over priced too I wouldn't mind paying if I got what I wanted sorry but I wouldn't go back maybe I just got the wrong stylist read more

A few months ago I went to a place on 86th street, I went there for years and the last time he botched my hair so bad. I left crying. My friend said let me take you to my place ( salon gio) . So I booked a consultation and I met Susan ( hair colorist). She was so busy that day but saw how upset I was that she wouldn't let me leave with out starting the process or fixing it. Just that first step she took made such a difference, I stopped wearing a hat. She was so wonderful and nice and legit made me stop crying. Then a few months later I needed a hair cut and used salon gio as well. I will never let any one other than Susan and Rebecca touch my hair ever again. If I could give this place a million stars I would. Every one is so nice and wonderful there !!! read more

I had Christina do some bayalage and at first I thought she knew what she was doing. She didn't check on me during my stay. She was on her phone when I first got there, while I was there and as I was walking out. Instead of the blonde it came out caramel and she said it will change as time goes on when I know for sure that it won't. I'm super unhappy. She literally was pulling my hair out as she was giving me a blow out. She was NOT friendly at all! I do not recommend her at this salon at all. Her husband is completely opposite. Very friendly and super social. It's unfortunate that I can't continue to go to him. She never asked me if I was happy or what I thought. It seemed like she couldn't wait to get me over and done with and had other things going on in her mind. Again, do not try this lady! read more

Please do not spend your money here, it really is not worth it. My boyfriend got a me a $150 gift card to get my hair and nails done here...The place is absolutely gorgeous and I appreciated being the only person there for my appointment which made me feel safe. However, despite of being the only person there the lady that did my hair seemed to be in a rush because she pulled at my hair, was done in 20 minutes (I have a lot of hair) and did not even bother to perfect the blow out. After this I was sent upstairs to get my nails done where the lady took one glance at my nails and said "we don't do acrylic" I was fine with this and asked if she could remove the 4 acrylic nails I had left, she denied and in a very nasty attitude said she had the next appointment in 20 minutes. I went to a salon that charged half the price and removed my acrylics is 5 minutes. I called the owner and he denied a refund since it was a gift card. I have $120 left and will not use it. Love love love salon gio! I decided to dye my hair a little lighter blonde than it already is. Christina was my colorist and she did an awesome job! My hair was a brand new shade of blonde. Even though it was bleaching of the hair, my hair still looked healthy and didn't feel dried out. About a month after that I came to see Alex, who did a blow out on me. Today I went to get a hair cut done by Alex for the first time and for once a hair stylist took their time to help me make my side bangs perfect! I must say the salon is great. Been going here for over 15 years (to Tom actually - when he used to work for AF Bennett) He broke off and did his own thing and is quite good at it. The staff is always pleasant, they give appointment reminder calls the day before (which have helped me many times) and the decor is great. And about what the other person said about owners being incognito... umm, they are right out in the open, always greeting you! Tom is the one who cuts my hair! He has such a large client base that everyone who has been a regular knows he is the owner. Oh yeah, he throws awesome Christmas parties too. What salon do you know does that?! lol read more

The atmosphere seemed very nice upon entering, but when I waited for 10 minutes for the "girls" to finish their conversation I did an about face and walked out. The first time I went to Gio was to get highlights. She started the highlights about 1/4 inch off my scalp and didn't put nearly enough on my head, making it look very unnatural. I go in the next day to get it fixed and the stylist was telling me that she did a good job and it looked fine, but she'd put a few more highlights "for free". Then the desk girls ask me to tip the stylists, making my bill $230!!! Keep in mind, I have the same amount of hair as a 4 year old. As forgiving as I am, I decided to give this place another chance and I called in for a hair coloring and the desk girls quoted me on 65$. So I go in to get my hair done and the same hair stylist jacks up the price to $180 without doing anything I asked for! Then my hair came out looking like a raccoon's tail (reddish blonde and very light blonde patches) because she was working on 2 other customers and left the bleach on after the timer would go off without ever checking the color. Besides my hair looking very trashy, the stylist always seems to have a really bad attitude and a frown on. I seriously hate this place. The best part of this salon is the Russian lady that waxed my eyebrows once, she did a very good job and that's what that one star is for. If you want to get royally ripped off and look like a joke, this is the place to go. read more

I was a loyal Pilo Arts customer but met the owners and thought they were so nice I wanted to give their business a try. I get my hair cut by Ali and she does exactly what I ask, which is rare when you have long hair, stylists just want to chop the heck out of it. They will squeeze you in last minute. The salon is gorgeous and clean. I would've given 5 stars but I have only gotten my hair cut here and they offer so many other services that I cannot guarantee are as good as the cuts and blowouts...and sometimes the customer service slacks...hold time on phone, little slow with greeting, inconsistent level of friendliness. But overall, I love this place, the owners, the prices, the service...great hair, minus the attitude. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND giving this place a try. read more

Today is one of the worst experience as a bride to be. Three weeks ago I called a well known salon in Brooklyn and asked for price information on bridal hair and makeup trial. The salon rep said make up is $65 & hair is $65. I was excited but I needed to wait three weeks for the head stylist to return from her trip. I said fine. Today, I was ok with the make n hair. As I was about to book my whole party of ten ppl for the wedding day, they gave me my bill for $220. I was shocked. I told them I was quoted a different price. They asked the manager to come out. The manager asked me what's the problem with an annoyed expression. I told him the situation. He laugh n said that would never be the case, as they are not allow to quote price on the phone. Then he show me the list of price n said the rep most half given a starting price and you must have misunderstood, as if I didn't speak English. I replied, we are speaking the same language. Then, he was saying bridal up do starts at $70 according to his list and I asked him to look at my hair because it's a simple curl style, not a up do. Then he went all over the place and said this and that. He continue to say there is no way we will quote you that price for the head stylist. I explained again, what I was quoted and said I will have fired the girl that gave you the quote. He basically, implied it's my fault if the girl gets fire. It was unbelievable. He refused to even listen n just wanted to make me feel guilty for their error. They didn't care for Asian business. He basically force me to pay for something I didn't agree. You would think people in this industry will care for their customer, especially a bridal to be. I am disgusted with them. They should be ashamed of themselves. If you are Asian be aware of this place, they don't want your business!!! read more
