I recently visited Aida's Spa as it's in my neighborhood and had great reviews. I am SO GLAD I walked into this salon. Where to start? Aida is an incredibly professional and talented stylist, and such a warm and welcoming, friendly person. She makes you feel as if you're a member of the family, and her customers do also. One of her clients was chatting with me during my visit and was very friendly and you could see she adores Aida, that was a nice thing that added to the experience and made me feel secure. Her assistant, Ana, is AMAZING. She gave me the best mani/pedi I've had in ages. It was so detailed and she was so thorough, and my nails looked wonderful and have lasted one week later. I also waxed my lip and eyebrows with Ana and again, great job. A very sweet woman and the prices for these services were great. Back to Aida. Aida dyed my roots, gave me an ash blonde balayage, cut my hair and trimmed my bangs and the result was FANTASTIC. She truly cares about what YOU want, not about making a quick buck and sending you on your way. I went considerably lighter and wasn't happy with the color of my bangs after the first round of dye (the hair that was just dyed a dark brown color close to the root was slightly more golden than the ash blonde hair lower down as that had been previously bleached) so she did it for me again until my hair matched throughout and I was so pleased by this-THAT is service! Make your customers happy and satisfied above all else! She has now cut my fourteen year old son's hair twice-he is the pickiest person I know, and he loves the result each time. She can do it all! She also sells great products at an affordable price. I bought two huge bottles of the special purple shampoo for blondes for a much lower price than at any store. In sum, if you need a new stylist, nail artist or esthetician and are new to Bay Ridge, go to Aida's Spa and ask for Aida and Ana. Excellent across the board. I am a native Bay Ridgeite and this is as good as it gets. The atmosphere is beautiful and the salon is immaculate. I have very thick hair that is extremely hard to manage. The cut was excellent. Aida was able to blow my hair dry as straight as I could ever hope to get it and the prices extremely reasonable. It has been 6 days and every morning I wish I can wake up from this Horrible Hair Nightmare! The chopped hair cut & color is a total tragedy. I provided a picture to show the color that I wanted and the owner, Aida said "not a problem". The finish hair color was black-ish green/gray! (I asked for dirty blonde highlights). She said it would lighten up after I washed it; that I should give it a day. Well, after 3 days...no change. My husband went to see Aida. He respectfully asked for a refund so I can get my hair fixed. She said she would not refund my money!!! She told him I should give it 7 to 9 days and If I was still unhappy, She would fix it for free....but honestly, why would I let her ruin my hair anymore??? $120.00 later, and I have to wear my hair up in a pony tail. This is just not right! My friends and family insist we go back (again) and demand a full refund! Unsatisfied and (tearfully) unhappy. I cannot recommend this salon. Buyer Beware! read more

I have been going to Aida for 16 years and even though I now live quite far from her Spa, still find it completely worthwhile to make the journey to have her do my hair- she is very sensitive to what the customer wants and very good at what she does- she has done the highlights on my hair all these years and its a real art, matching up the blonde streaks- but she does it with great patience and good humor - she also cuts my hair in a way that suits my kind of hair. This will probably end up in the hidden reviews with all the other negatives, but here goes...I have to concur with the other reviews stating that the owner does NOT know what she's doing. I lived in Bay Ridge for over 10 years, and this is one of those "$12 blow-out" salons, that if you go there for THAT, then you'll be fine, but anything more than that, you'll just be disappointed.The only thing that I can figure is that "Aida" must have a rich boyfriend or something that keeps the salon open for her, because there is never ANYONE in this salon... that's why it is "so clean." When there IS someone there, it's usually one of her handful of old lady regulars that get the "up-do's, highlights, or that cheap blow-out! The ones singing her praises are either getting their hair done by whatever revolving employee she has working there that week (until they realize that HER mistakes are costing THEM money, and leave) or not asking for anything that would require the skills learned in cosmetology school. Don't get me wrong, I guess she knows how to do some things, like up-do's and blow-outs, but if you're looking for a cut, color, or anything more complicated, you're gambling with about a 50/50 chance you're gonna be REALLY disappointed. I went in to lighten my hair to a dark ash blonde, having medium brown hair at the time. She told me that all my reference pictures were "of highlights" (which cost MORE money than just the single color I wanted, BTW) but I hesitantly agreed, thinking she knew what she was talking about. I should have trusted my gut...she dyed the whole thing BLACK, and added about 12 highlights that came out medium brown...the color I came in with. You can imagine my surprise when I thought I would walk out almost ash blonde, and when I opened my eyes my hair was DARKER than before! When I politely--but nervously--voiced my opinion, (the other stylist overheard and glared at her and made a huff sound, as if to say, Dammit Aida, AGAIN?!) I was given the standard, "It will lighten up after you wash it, this is what you SAID you wanted,"(Mind you, I gave her several pictures of girls with ash blonde hair before we even started.) "if it doesn't get lighter come back and I'll do it for free," etc. Yeah, okay, so you can screw it up some more? No thanks! Then, when I went to work the next day and told my co-worker what happened, she said, "Oh my GOD, why did you go there? EVERYBODY knows not to go there, why didn't you ask before you went?"
