I hadn't gotten my hair done since November of 2019, so I was due for a cut at the very least. After perusing Yelp reviews of different hair salons in the area, I came across Dorene Furtado's work. She had pictures up of the exact hair color and style that I wanted, so I knew I had to contact her right away. Booking with Dorene was easy and seamless through text, and she was able to fit me in on New Years Eve! The salon itself is in the Kaka'ako district. I've only ever been there a couple of times, so driving past all the mural decorated warehouses was so nice during the day. You can definitely see how unique and vibrant of a neighborhood it is. Parking was super easy; Nueve Salon has their own parking lot, and location wise is very easy to find. The salon is clean, bright, and well-kept, and I felt lucky to have been the only person in that day. Dorene took her time to explain what she was going to do, and ensured that she was able to execute exactly what I wanted without damaging my hair. After a couple of hours in the chair, some highlights, and a cut later, I felt lighter and like I had finally had some self care time (a rarity with kids). It had been a while since I had been and couldn't recall how long and the hair dresser just proceeded to tell me that it had been longer than I was saying and proving me wrong. I couldn't decide how I wanted to style it and asked for suggestions and she just said she doesn't give suggestions. This lasted the entire hair cut. I showed a picture and showed her to do it like that and she said, 'I'm just going to stick to what you said before.' Then I just finally said, 'do whatever you'd like.' I tipped her well because she did a great job, but it was a very uncomfortable experience. Quality work, not quality customer service. Will not be back.

Called the salon the next day and asked them to fix it. Went in later that week and showed the same pic to a new colorist. I came out looking like the little mermaid. I will say it was fun for a minute, but, again, not what I wanted. After almost a month of living with it, I needed it fixed. It faded drastically and looked like 6 months of grow out. It was horrible! I called Lisa, at The Beauty Spot, and explained my situation. They were booked until December. I asked if she could take my name and number for an earlier cancellation. She said she would talk to her team and call me back. Within minutes, she called back and gave me Randi's number. I messaged her with pictures of my hair. She was able to schedule me, three days later, to fix my color. The day of my appt, I showed Randi the color I was going for. I'll be honest, I was nervous and praying the third time was the charm for my hair color. Randi was awesome! She took a few minutes to really look at my hair to see what was done. I think she sensed my nervousness and explained what she was doing. She told me it would be a two step process to fix. Randi was super cute and wouldn't let me watch. She turned me away from the mirrors. The rest of the team was excited for what was happening with the color. Then came time for the "big reveal". WOW!!!!! Randi......WOW!!!!! She is fantastic!!! My hair color was perfect to what I wanted. My hair also looked and felt so much better. It didn't feel like it had been processed three times in a month. I'm so in love with her work! From the very first message, Lauren at Darlwas responsive, empathetic, and incredibly kind. She truly listened to what happened and what I was hoping to achieve. When I arrived, she was welcoming, professional, and explained everything in a way that made me feel comfortable and informed. She performed a full color correction and completely transformed my hair. My previous layers were choppy and uneven, about six inches apart, and she beautifully blended everything so it looked soft and seamless. She did a root melt, corrected the harsh highlights, gave me a gorgeous blowout, and styled my hair to perfection. And she did all of this while pregnant. Truly amazing. Hair is very important to me culturally and personally, and I was devastated after my first experience. When I left Lauren's chair, I felt beautiful again. I will be back. I'm a senior and don't do the phone appointments apps very much. But they are very accommodating to take me when I pop in and ask for a haircut. So long as you wait for your turn. Which they manage quite well with phone appointments, text messages appointments, and walk in appointments.
