The shop seems new and is clean. Owner, Dana, instructed a worker (who washed my hair) in the techniques of cutting a pixie. Strange, the worker mentioned to me while washing hair she had graduated from beauty school. But because of instructions, the hair cutting process was slow. Usually it snip,snip,snip. But Dana would mention what angle and why she was doing it and how she was holding my hair etc. It's kinda like when you go to the market and get a trainee with an instructor the process is slow and you try to avoid that line if possible. Except the trainee was not cutting my hair but watching. But I will say this, the cut was wonderful. I washed my hair and it all falls into place with little or no help. Another random thing, but I usually come home with a very sore neck (from the sink) and a sore scalp (from all the tugging) but can say this is the first time I have neither! So easy to schedule an appointment! I had my first appointment with Dana Kim this past Friday for a haircut. Such a great salon! Clean & Cute & Dana is so nice! Her assistant Roxie gave me the best scalp massage EVER! I booked a full highlight for my first visit to this salon and I left extremely happy! My stylist was Dovelen--an absolute doll! Literally so sweet and kind throughout my entire appointment. This is a WAY overdue review, but before any more time passed, I wanted to leave my compliments for Wendy's expert hair cutting and styling services. I came to her back in June for a last-minute cut and style just before uncle's funeral. Life has become pretty hectic since then. However, Wendy was super friendly and actually dry-trimmed my hair first to give me a bit of shaping before washing. This was followed by washing, conditioning and a fabulous scalp massage! She then proceeded to finish off the shaping of my thick/frizzy hair with a great cut that's grown out well and followed this with a face flattering style. I have been going to Wendy for a year now and she's helped me go through my blonde phase, ash brown phase, and I'll be going back to my roots in a few weeks. She responds in a timely manner in her instagram DMs, you can always check her availability on her story which makes scheduling with her super easy! First off- staff was really friendly and kind. I usually don't leave reviews, but I felt this situation warranted one. Cut was blunt and not really well blended at the bottom. Asked for face framing and it was just ok. Stylist straightened my hair after the cut to style it and it (or the product) was burning so bad my throat was hurting from the fumes I was inhaling. I would recommend trying another place out cause I really am not happy with my hair. I have been going to this salon since she first opened up in Kapolei...not even sure how many years it's been, but I would never consider going to another salon. Dana is a "perfectionist" and very detailed in her work. Me and my friend both went for haircuts and got our hair styled there was an extra charge for her so much and that was weird most places it comes with the haircut but whatever I was treating ourselves other than that she did a good job. I had my haircut done by Wendy. I have been cutting my own hair for over 10 years now, I usually just cut it straight or follow one of those tiktok hacks to cut my hair. Going into a salon to cut my hair is probably one of the nicest self care I have done in a long time. Having someone else wash, cut and style your hair was wonderful!! Wendy has a very calming and comforting presence. I felt like I got a therapy session while I was getting my hair cut! A grown out and faded purple balayage (done by Bre, a former stylist at this salon) was no longer cutting it for me and I needed some big change. Upon following Malia's Instagram, I knew she was relatively new to the industry but photos of her work were impeccable. I booked a last minute appointment for Labor Day which was really accommodating! It's incredible how many times I have had balayage done but I have never gotten this light or ashy in one sitting. Though it was a long appointment (5.5 hours) it was very relaxing and the salon has a clean, modern ambience. Malia is very nice and soft spoken. a minute agoNEW I went Salon Dana and booked a highlight and cut with Dana herself. Their website and photos impressed me, as well as her bio; however, I left extremely unhappy. My highlight did not at all turn out as I expected, even though I showed photos of what I had in mind. My haircut was even worst. The service costed me over $450, plus tip. Regardless, of not liking it, the service was still performed, which is why I left a tip. After a couple of days of really not liking the color, Dana was accommodating and was able to see me that weekend to tone the color down. I did not mention the haircut, as I could not afford to lose anymore length should she try to fix it. That second visit costed about a $100, plus tip. I did end up going to another salon to fix the uneven haircut. So in all, highlights and haircut, costed a total $650. read more

I went to the salon for a Balayage and a haircut with Dovelen. The color came out ok, but the haircut was horrible. I asked for layers. She did not layer my sides, and the back of the hair was not blended and uneven. I called the salon to see if someone could fix my haircut, and the lady said she would call me back after she talked to Dana. I have not heard anything from them. It has been two days. Now I have to go and pay for someone else to fix my haircut since it seems that the salon does not want to fix the problem with my hair that Dovelen caused. I'm a big fan of word of mouth, so when a friend recommended Salon Dana, I figured why not give it a try? Booking: I used their website, which was super simple to navigate. I really liked that the site showed a rough estimate of how long the appointment would be. Was pretty accurate, too. Maybe went about 10 minutes over. Parking: I got lucky and parked right in front of the salon, but I could see it being a problem on busy days. Check-in: I was greeted right away and encouraged to sanitize my hands, did temperature check and filled out Covid survey. Super easy and felt welcome. Service: Genny was my stylist and she definitely took care. I told her what I wanted, my lifestyle and hair needs/concerns and then she gave suggestions and confirmed a haircut plan. I had signed up for deep conditioning and let me tell you, the scalp massage was on point--I almost fell asleep. Genny was personable and I enjoyed our conversation during the haircut very much. The final look: I came in with long dead-ended hair that reached my butt and walked out with fresh, bouncy layers that ended at my chest. I seen a post on IG for Salon Dana. Loved their work! I notice the hairstyle I wanted to achieve, so I made an appointment. I hadn't done my hair since March so I knew a lot work had to be done. I arrive a few minutes early, I was greeted and was asked to wait outside, no problem. Moments later I was called me in... my stylist was Dana the owner, friendly. I showed her the picture of what I wanted to achieve. She touched my hair said it needed a lot work, quoted me $450.00. I think it was for haircut, root touch up and full hair foil...I was shocked with the price but, told her if she could make my hair look like the picture I'd pay that price. I didn't want to spend that amount of money and lt looked like nothing had happen...so she looked it over again and offered to do root touch up, tone my existing hair color, cut and style for $250 and to come back in 7 weeks and then I could do the hair style I desired. She didn't feel comfortable lightening my hair, it was damaged? I told her "will my hair look lighter, will you see a difference, it won't look the same?" She said "yes and it won't look the same, it will be toned and after couple washes it will lighten a little." So she cut off the damaged areas and started with the root touch up with her assistant. It took about 15-20 min. I waited for dye to process my hair.. After awhile, assistant came back rinsed hair, while consulting with Dana every step of the way. While Dana started with another customer. Finally time to cut hair it's a lot shorter than I anticipated but, my fault for not speaking up. She asked how I wear my hair, I said ponytail so I guess it didn't matter what end style looked like . She did a blow out and was done. I was really hoping for a mommy makeover...I knew the color I wanted was out, hoping the cut would be similar but instead I got Lois from Family guy. It's a nice cut just not what I wanted, no beach waves either. I wish I would have said something but I'm not one to make a fuss, I just paid my bill and smiled. I was in desperate need for a haircut. The night before my appointment I was looking on Yelp for nearby salons with openings for the next day. I was looking at different Supercut locations but got spooked by the reviews and horror stories. So I widened my search and found Salon Dana. It was so easy to navigate on their website and I was able to make an appointment ONLINE for the next day. You can pick your stylist, service and it'll give you available times. I didn't have anyone in mind as it was my first time but I took whoever was available for tomorrow. When I arrived to my appointment, I was immediately greeted and asked to hand sanitize. Then I filled out a COVID survey. The salon was very clean and appealing. It's also located in a great neighborhood. My stylist was Genny and she was so SWEET and funny. She really made me feel comfortable and was making small talk with me which turned into conversations. She kept insisting that I relax and that I could nap if I wanted. However, I was just so interested in watching her cut and style my hair. 100% recommend Genny. There were other stylists in the salon and I do believe that they are just as great and welcoming. After reading the 5 star reviews I decided to give this salon a try. I booked my appt at 9am, but was running a little late so I gave them a courtesy call and said I'll be 10 min late, whoever answered the phone said, "well can you be here in few min?" I said "no, that is the reason I'm calling and telling you I'll be there in 10 min", she's like "ok" like whatever. Then when I got in, I booked whoever was available which was a mistake, and I felt rushed. I have very long hair and asked to cut few inches off and create more layers. However, because she rushed she didn't do much. It was like a 30 min haircut. I came home and my husband said he didn't notice anything. It was a wasteful and expensive over $100 haircut plus tip that didn't make a big difference. I have very thick, naturally wavy, Asian hair. It can be difficult to find someone who can cut my hair correctly, thin it out, and not make me look like a cocker spaniel. Dana is awesome! She takes her time to give you the cut you want and is very patient. I have never been disappointed since I have started seeing her (about 5 years now), even followed her from Kailua to her own salon in Kapolei.
