I booked an elite stylist (the most expensive around 70 dollars-which ok, other specific hair salons charge that much for a haircut nowadays). I showed a picture of my dream hair (I grew my hair out for years) to have a specific cut which ended up not being like it at all! I had my hair washed by the salon assistant then my hired stylist cut my hair. After she cut my hair, I felt like I was being tossed to her assistant who would then blow dry (not style) my hair (and didn't even use any products for heat or style). You would think that paying 70 something dollars you get a cut and style. I also have a sensitive scalp and had to tell her that but she continued on blow drying my hair to high heat ( which I kept flinching btw and told her it was hot but she still didn't get the message). After the assistant was done I had to tell her if there was any product (like a hair oil or something) to use after since she blow dried my hair to high heat (she wasn't going to offer unless I said something). This isn't my first time getting my haircut at Ulta, however this is the first time I got an assistant washing and styling my hair with no product. So overall, this time around, my experience was less than average. The cut was not at all like the picture, and I got a stylist who wasn't there for me throughout my whole haircut experience because she was juggling other clients (I get she is an elite stylist and she has no problem getting clients but for 70 bucks, even at other high end salons, you would get only your hired stylist WITH style and hair products with your haircut experience). The assistant was nice however I didn't hire her to care for my hair (again which I waited years to cut only to get a haircut that did not look at all like the picture/tiktok video I showed). Overall, I gave 3 stars because the overall cut was ok, but the service was not. I felt like just a number, not a paying client. Disappointed and won't be coming back to Ulta for another it if this is the case.

As I finally got to be next in line, both associates were busy helping customers with in-store purchases. One customer at checkout decided she wasn't quite finished browsing, leaving the associate and me awkwardly waiting for several minutes. While I stood there, Shay came up front as she was about to clock out for the night. She noticed me standing there empty-handed and quickly realized I was probably there for a pickup. She has always been professional, on time for every appointment, and incredibly gentle. Even when I came back from another country with a poorly done set, she took the time to carefully remove them with so much patience and in the least painful way possible. What I appreciate most is how much she listens. We always talk through the look I want, and she adjusts every set to fit my preferences, whether I want them longer, curlier, or more natural.
