How have I never written a review for my favorite colorist ever?? A couple years ago Beau masterfully took me from my natural dirty blonde with partial highlights to an all-over red that I love. I first met with him for a consultation and immediately knew I was in great hands. He is so knowledgeable and committed to giving you gorgeous hair you'll love, and at the same time he's your biggest cheerleader and the best confidant. I have never felt this loyal to a salon before. My color lasts so well in-between visits! Beau will make you look and feel your best. I love that his salon is part of a shopping complex that has a CVS, Starbucks, and Trader Joes. It makes it easy to check off an errand before or after each appointment. Whenever he and Sam Stebbins (his excellent stylist partner) are able to re-open -- Be sure to follow COVID guidelines (they are both very safe, which I appreciate!) You can either park in the structure under the building (leave plenty of time to navigate it and then go up 2 or 3 floors to find Salon Republic - up the escalator across from Starbucks) or you can save yourself the parking fees and find a street spot on Crescent Heights Blvd (again, just leave plenty of time). To be honest, I don't know how I haven't done this review yet for Beau. Just so I'm clear, he is the BEST with color. I first saw Beau last August 2015 with terrible box color and I wanted to lighten it to an ashy light brown. For anyone that know anything about Asian hair, the fear is that Asian hair tends to turn brassy/orange if dyed incorrectly, so this was a big task. I'm sharing photos of my 2015 before and after. Beau did SUCH a great job - no brassy tones at all and the color was perfect! Especially after having all sorts of box color in my hair, Beau's knowledge as a colorist really shows through. As my hair started to grow, the colors started to fade BEAUTIFULLY. So even after a year, you can tell that the way he did did the color was well thought out because when the brown faded into blonde, it looked as if I just recently did a blonde balayage on my hair. This review is a tad bit overdue, Beau did a color correction on my hair over a month ago and I've been meaning to write this, to sing his praises. I came in with a bad ombre, picky about what I wanted and extremely nervous about the end result. Beau gave me his honest opinion, and asked all the right questions to make sure I would be happy. He takes the time to talk with you about your hair and learn what your #goals are, and then he offers his expert guidance about what to do. Other stylists have gotten annoyed with me because I am so particular and protective about my hair and am afraid of change, so I'm usually unsure what I want to do. But Beau takes into account all my neuroses -- especially with how obsessed I am with having healthy, natural hair -- and works his magic. When you're in his chair, he takes his time, gives amazing scalp massages, tells you what products you should (and shouldn't) be using, and strikes the perfect balance between listening to you and sharing his own funny stories. Having my hair touched calms me, so I prefer to just sit back and be quiet most of the time. With other stylists, that can feel awkward and I feel pressure to engage with them. Not did he lift my color considerably, he has an excellent dynamic with clients - knows how to talk with them, what questions to lead with, how to listen in order to make sure his work is exactly what the client wants (even if they aren't sure how to voice their requests initially). He's also great about helping you plan in the long term, and giving you tips about how to get the most out of your current color. I can't stress how much I appreciate this level of care from a salon, and Beau's willingness to give you an honest opinion about how to do a major color transition right. So many times, I've gotten thrown under the bus by a stylist who over-promised and under-delivered and it's the WORST, so let me stress this man is a god-send who knows what he's talking about. The space is super cute - it's minimalist but inviting, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I even got to play dj while they worked on me, which was a nice touch and made me feel relaxed for the duration of my appointment.
