LOVE IT!! I LOVE YOU ANDREW!! he changed my life for the better so much. great human being. great products and skills. and aesthetic. Extension guru! Hair Police OG. the salon is small and modern. like 3 chairs. People who have a special relationship with their personal hairdresser go here. My guy is independent and used to own a super awesome salon... haha ooh It is elite. Parking is metered but free after uhm 5 or 6 and there is always a spot. Right off Hollywood Blvd next door to Boardners. IG if you want some fierce awesome modern hair you could get lucky and pop by and meet someone who's working, and schedule w them... Not sure you can just call the place and schedule an appt, but maybe! Try it!! read more

Love Hector. He has been cutting my hair for 10 years now. Always the best time with him and his cuts are perfect.

The best in Hollywood. Ask for Hector. Great colorist and no one can give a haircut like him. He turns each client into a piece of art because he cares. I always look forward to going. read more

This is a review for Rory Austin. @hairgazing if you want to check out her IG. She has been cutting my hair for over 10 years. She was my stylist in SF and coincidentally we both moved to LA! Couldn't be happier. On top of consistently great cuts over the last 10+ years, she is super kind, very responsive, hard working, and just fun to hang out with. I think you can book directly through her website. read more

Love this little gem. The service is amazing and the stylist are friendly. I'm super picky about who touches my hair bc I have very thick and coarse hair. Also I have a lot of hair on top of that. The work they did on my hair was amazing. I told the stylist that I needed a cut that I can manage so it won't be a ton of work in the morning. Rebecca cut my hair perfectly. The styling time for my hair is minimal. I can't wait to go back and see what they can do for coloring my hair. read more

Words can't describe how much I love this place! Ask for Duke Snyder. He is an absolute genius not to mention he's a stylist to the stars! I was referred to him from my client that had been seeing him for years. I went to see him for a blonde color correction and an extensions consult. My hair was orange, thin and stringy. Talk about a pro...Duke gave me a full consult and fixed my blonde to the perfect shade. I'm a natural brunette. I left looking like I could book a playboy shoot! His prices are incredibly affordable compared to the bills I've paid at other salons. Super chic and welcoming atmosphere. I've already booked my next appointment. Seriously spreading the word about this salon and referring all my clients and friends to Duke! read more

This review is for Emillyann their nail gal, I'll be making a visit soonto get my hair did :) Emillyann is one of few girls in Los Angeles that offers shellac - AMAZING. It's way better than gel, apparently it's a hybrid between polish and gel, no drilling or uber harsh chemicals on your nails. Prices start at $35 for shellac mani, if you go after 6 PM there's tons of FREE legal yellow loading zone parking available! She's super flexible with her schedule too. HIGHLY recommended will be doing my nails here regularly :) Thanks Emillyann! read more

Hector is my man! I tell him do whatever style you want, just keep it long. The edgier the better. And he always delivers. I totally trust this guy with my long black asian wavy ass hair. And the cuts last for weeks, months even! read more

Go see Becca at Plaid studio!! She's the absolute BEST! I've been seeing her for years now. She always knows how to spice me up to perfection with not only the cut but also color. She's got the chillest vibe and helps you to feel relaxed. I used to dread haircuts until I met her. I trust her with more than just my hair, she's my confidante! It's amazing when you finally can put complete faith in to someone with your hair without hesitation. If you were looking for a sign to come to this salon...this is your sign. But you must book with Becca! read more

I came to Plaid Studio for a haircut, blow dry and color. The stylist, I can't remember her name, said she's worked with celebrities. She just finished a wedding updo for the client in front of me. It didn't look good or professional. It could have been done better. My haircut was so quick, only a few minutes literally. We couldn't find the color that I was looking for in the color match book. She decided to give me a chocolate brown. I wasn't happy or unhappy with the end-result but it wasn't the dark brown color I was looking for. During the blow dry she didn't add a little style to finish it off. Overall the service was ordinary, nothing special. There's a few parking spaces in the back or you can opt for street parking and pay for the meters. read more

If there were a zero stars category, this one would get it. Not because of their ability to style hair, but because of the inability of anyone getting out of bed to make it to the shop on time. I made an 11:00am appointment to see someone named "Steve" the week before. Great. I made certain to get myself down there on time and not waste his time idling away waiting for a new client. I walked up to a shuttered business. No movement inside. The lights were off. I waited 10 minutes. No one showed up. Cherokee Avenue is not somewhere you want to loiter around. After about the third person picking through the garbage I thought 10 minutes was enough. I called and left a message that I was there and that I believed they had, without notification, canceled. Now if there is one big caveat in business it's that you never, ever, leave a customer waiting. If you want to stay in business, you don't drive them away with slipshod business practices (that attitude took down historic Hollywood Park). In other words, you get out of bed and get to work on time. I generally avoid Hollywood service businesses because of this lazy attitude. Again I was proved right. Steve couldn't get out of bed to get to the salon on time for what he probably thought was going to be a dye job too boring to be worth his bother. This person might be a great stylist, but he's no professional. read more

I usually go to cheap barbers in my neighborhood that have children running around, and pictures of the Kate Gosselin hairdo on the wall from old magazines (not joking :( ). This was the first time since I've been in LA where I've gone to an actual salon (that even has yelp reviews... and a phone??). Steven knew exactly what I wanted, and did a great job at making it happen. It felt good not having to explain a "Hitler Youth" haircut to a middle aged mother of 3 who speaks little english. (I'm a huge Joy Division fan :( ) Thanks, Steven! read more

My best friend got an amazing hair-cut and I begged her to give me the number to her stylist. Hector. Oh, Hector. I had medium-long naturally curly hair. Very curly. But after having two kids, it was always back in a horrible pony-tail. No one ever wants to cut my hair short because they get seduced by the curls, like it's some law that they must always be long, and blown-out and styled to holy hell... but after showing Hector some pictures of when I went daringly short, and some of the in-between cuts/styles I've had, he took the leap with me. I told him I wanted to look fierce, not sad anymore, and he got a twinkle in his eye. It was like I needed to say or show no more. And he honestly made me feel like I made HIS day! Hector took me from tired, haggard mom of 2 young children, back to the hip, sassy, dare-I-say taller and younger me (no seriously, the cut made me look taller.) I am not kidding when I say that Hector helped me tap back into my inner diva. He gave me an amazing short cut that takes about 4 minutes to blow out, and 2 minutes to flat iron a few pieces in the front. A little wax and my do is very city chic with a tiny bit of punk rock in there. I don't have to touch my hair for like 3 days (every new mother's dream.) But here is the real shocker: Today I just let my hair air dry with a little styling cream worked into it just to see what would happen... and shazaam! My hair looks amazing curly too - which I did not think was possible when it's this short. Hector worked magic on my hair. I am a believer. Dreams really do come true. Hector's staff is amazing, professional, they all work really hard and make you feel at home. They all lifted my spirits, and Hector made me look and honestly feel absolutely beautiful again. I will definitely be going back. Hollywood's got nothing on this man. Mwa! read more

Go see Duke at Plaid Studio! Duke has done my hair for a very (very!) long time and I think he does a wonderful job. I always marvel how well my hair turned out. He does an amazing job coloring my hair. I like to change my hair color every so often and he always has ideas! Very fresh and stylish looking. If you want a quality stylist that can cut, color and style your hair, I 1000% recommend Duke at Plaid Studio! I've always had a great experience! You will too! read more

Go see Renato. He cut my hair for something like 4 years in SF. It always looked great. Over the course of our relationship, he offered great suggestions that slowly helped me move from a little-bit-dorky cut to something that fit me much better. I looked forward to seeing Renato. I'd sit down, say, "what you did last time", and we'd have a good conversation, get some dumb laughs and I'd be out. I am super sad he moved to LA. My hair is getting long now and I'm dreading having to find another person. Oh, also, he always rinsed my hair after the cut! None of my previous hair dressers would do that. read more

RENATO RENATO RENATO I am a major groupie for Renato. I used to live in SF and would go to him every time. I moved away from SF and would STILL visit him every time I was in the city. And now I will do the same and travel to LA to see him. Great person, we have a shit ton of laughs when we catch up. AMAZING HAIR STYLIST !!! *My Asian ladies, he will make you look FIERCE. I trust no other human to cut my hair. SO NOW Y'ALL KNOW WHO TO CALL FOR A GOOD CUT/STYLE. read more

Yes, I am also reviewing Renato for his time in SF. Yes, he really is as amazing as all the reviews suggest. He took my vague idea of what I wanted and transformed it into a haircut that got countless compliments over the last couple years. All that, and great conversation at the same time. read more

This review is for Marcy. I'm new to Los Angeles from Australia and after seeing the same hairdresser at home for many many years it was a daunting task finding someone new in LA. Marcy was highly recommended by a trusted friend and I was very excited to learn she was at Plaid Studio very close to my house. The salon is simple and streamline, parking was easy and I felt very comfy as I waited for my first appointment. It's been 7 weeks since that first cut and colour and I can honestly say it's the BEST cut I've ever ever had. And it still looks great as it's growing out. The colour is, by choice, a very natural brown to hide the greys which had previously been coloured badly and Marcy brought my dull brassy hair back to life. I can't wait to see Marcy again. read more

I followed Marcy here from another salon as I wouldn't trust anyone else to do my hair after almost five years. She has seen me through some hair emergencies (not her fault), and I love my cut and color. I have really thin, fine hair and she gives me just enough layers. Super natural looking and easy to take care of on my own. Grows out well and I always look forward to going back. read more

This review is for Renato. He is AWESOME! If you're looking to feel amazing and fabulous after your haircut, come here and schedule an appointment with Renato. He really knows hair, especially Asian hair. He cut my hair so it was always easy to maintain and the layers were well cut. In addition, he always made getting my haircut a great experience. In addition, he does hair for special occasions. He did the hair for the bride and bridesmaids for my sister's wedding and everyone commented on how beautiful all the girls' hair looked! I can't say it enough, Renato is the best! read more

RENATO! Renato is absolutely the best! The worst thing that ever happened to my hair is that this bright young star moved from the Bay to LA for bigger and better things. Renato is a visionary who makes my hair fabulous! He is an artist who speaks to every single curl on my head, shaping them and convincing them to be gorgeous. Renato used to shave a new artistic design on the short side of my hair every other week. Renato is an artist. Do your self a favor and let him manage your hair for life. read more

Never knew what a good LA haircut was until i came here. Stumbled upon this place after a cruise in Hollywood and all i have to say is that the service is worth every penny. I see other reviewers have also taken a liking to Steven, but then again - how could you not. He truly is a hair artist. The only thing that is a drag is parking but what do you expect in Hollywood. Great vibe great tunes and great service. read more

There's a reason all these other fabulous people are raving about Renato... It's because he is AHHHH-MAAAA-ZINGGGG!!!!! I was a shy Canadian, wide-eyed and feeling lost in my new home... that is, until I met RENATO TEROY! He helped transform me into the confident man I am today and I have trusted no other with my fabulous hair since moving to this country almost four years ago. San Francisco, your loss is LA's gain. Make the journey. Experience the moment. Be transformed. You'll thank all of us who told you to do so. read more

Renato is fantastic! I used to think it really didn't matter where I got my hair cut - it kinda always looked the same. Then I saw Renato, and it was magical. My hair no longer required the week-long, awkward grow out, getting used to it phase, and it continued to look fly for weeks. On top of that, Renato is super fun to talk to. Let's be real, personality is huge when you're hostage in a chair. I miss him and his infectious laugh terribly! read more

TERRIBLE, STAY AWAY!! I purchased a Living Social deal and when I called to make my appointment, I was told that only one stylist at the salon was accepting the Living Social vouchers. That was not noted anywhere on the voucher but I went ahead and scheduled an appointment with ALLYSON JOYNER, the one accepting the vouchers. The day of my appointment, less than 3 hours before my scheduled time, I got a phone call that Allyson didn't come in today and they needed to reschedule my appointment. Not very happy for the short notice, I rescheduled for the following Saturday. Two days before my 2nd scheduled appointment, I get another call that Allyson can't come in on Saturday now and will need to reschedule again. I asked for another stylist to cut my hair, this was unacceptable, this woman cancelled on me two weeks in a row with little to no notice! Again I was told that she was the only one who could accept the voucher so the guy that called me gave me her phone number, told me she was expecting my call and suggested I talk to her myself and try to arrange a time. By now I was really angry and really didn't want this unprofessional twat to cut my hair. But, I bought this voucher through Amazon and I didn't think it was refundable so I tried calling her right away, right after she was supposedly expecting my call. I got her voicemail, explained who I was and asked that she please call me back as soon as possible to reschedule the appointment she now cancelled on me twice. She never returned my call. The next day I called again, got voice mail again, left message again and again, she never called back! How is this any way to run a business and try to get new clientele?? What kind of stupid moron is this shitiot?? I wouldn't let this woman anywhere near your hair, she can't manage to keep a schedule or return a phone call, do you really want her coming at your head with a pair of sharp scissors? read more

Parking sucked and i got a ticket. This salon was empty and dusty. Cheep painting designs on the wall should of turned me around right away. But i thought I would give it a chance since i was referred by a girlfriend AND there were awesome yelp reviews ( im sure just friends or workers of the establishment).. the place was messy. I saw beer bottle caps laying around. I had an appoitment with a guy names Hector. He was so unprofessional, smelled like weed and acted sloppy. His station was a mess, dirty brushes and i was just horrified. I will be telling my girlfriend, i know better places than that dump. My boyfriend told me to get my money back cause myhair was thinned out and gross. I cried all night. read more

When you move to a new city, you often struggle to meet new friends, much less a new doctor, dentist, hair stylist, etc. I met Renato by chance and it was one of the best things that happened to me because he became my hair stylist & a friend! I'm not naturally good with hair and makeup. If I came in with questions or wanted to try something new, he would guide me through it and he always made my hair look amazing for over three years! I am so sad that he is no longer in the Bay Area, but I will seriously be scheduling some trips to visit friends in LA (and Renato!) based on my hair's schedule. read more

I followed Steven here from his previous Salon because he is simply leaps and bounds above anyone else that has cut my hair in LA. Add in that the entire staff is fun and friendly and you literally don't want to leave when your haircut is done. There are no 'newbies' at this Salon as far as I can tell, every single one of them is a veteran, but I'm going to be biased here and say ask for Steven, you can't go wrong. Also, they have parking in the back, which is key in the middle of Hollywood. read more

Hector gave me an excellent new hair cut and color today. He spent so much time with me and paid very close attention to all of my input about the new style I wanted. I love my new hair and will continue to see him for my future hair needs. read more

Duke is the best. I've seen him for more than 20 years, off and on, in LA and he has been the only person to successfully take me to blonde without wrecking my hair. And my color changes a lot. I've decided to keep it blonde for a while so he's my definite go to! read more

I'm a very very picky person when it comes to my hair and Hector blew it out of the water!! He's so great because he's so creative and innovative! He styled my hair for my birthday, so you know it had to be BANGIN. Not just curls and teasing...but I needed a MASTERPIECE..this girl has got to stick out ya know? I told him I wanted a cornrow element along with a mo-hawky edgy element and he took that and ran with it! Needless to say, my hair was a hit.....!!! Totally an original creation, I didn't want to wash my hair out for the next few days...and to be honest with you, i didn't. Make an appt with him. read more

great atmosphere and the talent behind the stylists [allyson and hector] is unbeatable. whether you're looking for a simple cut or more complex multi-color work involving painting techniques or the most cutting edge styling and products this is hands down the place to go! i am ridiculously selective when it comes to my hair and this is the only place i trust when it comes to my locks. read more

I'm really sad. Why you ask? Renato left SF for LA. He has been cutting my hair since I moved to San Francisco. I'm currently in stylist purgatory and have no clue how I'm going to adjust. It didn't matter if I was super picky that day or I gave Renato the go ahead to do whatever he likes, I always ended up extremely happy. If I find a cheap flight to LA it's quite possible I make a weekend trek for a haircut. read more

Renato was my friend for a few years before he felt comfy enough to turn to me and say, "We need to fix your hair." He transformed my long, wavy-ish locks into the best haircut I'd ever had. This review is for Renato (aka - the most talented hairdresser I have ever had!). I have been going to Renato to get my hair done for a couple of years (in SF) and when I found out he was transferring to LA I felt a mixture of happiness (for his professional growth) and devastation (I wish I was being overly-dramatic!). It's just very rare to find a hairdresser that is both super talented, will listen to what you want, and makes the whole experience extremely pleasant. As I started going to him regularly, it began to feel like I was making an appt to see a close friend. This guy seriously knows what he is doing and will make you feel absolutely fabulous when you leave!! Schedule an appointment with him - you wont be disappointed! read more

5 stars and more for Renato. As a consistent client of his for over 3 years now (in the Bay Area) Renato has delivered every single time on a super super solid hairstyle, making me feel comfortable and stylish for meeting the world. Not only does Renato give great cuts, but he is also a super personable and friendly guy. We had a great time talking about all sorts of stuff, and he was even so cool as to come see some of my musical performances. If you're lucky enough to have Renato as your stylist, you must have some seriously good karma. Rock on Renato! read more
