Omg this is such a hidden gem! I am in Hawaii for vacation and needed a good hair wash after doing a bunch of water activities. Washing my hair is such a hassle for me because I have weft extensions and thick/coarse hair. So glad I found this place! Everyone was so kind - I told them how I wanted my hair styled and to be careful of my extensions. They were very gentle when washing my hair and working around the extensions. It was such a relaxing experience! Joni then proceeded to blow dry and put my hair in rollers because I wanted a 90s style blowout. She claims she's never done a curly hair style with this technique, but she nailed it! I was looking for a salon where I could cut my hair and it wouldn't be too pricey. I found Salon Ava on Yelp and they had great reviews which drew me to them. I called and I was able to schedule an appointment later that day. They have a shared parking lot with Palama supermarket and other stores so it was quite busy around my appointment time (12pm). I went into the salon and was greeted by the staff then quickly seated at the hair washing station. I then showed the hairdresser, Joanie, my hair before and how I wanted my ends more evened out. I showed her some inspo pics for my hair as well as how I wanted to cut my bangs. She paid attention to the details and made sure to make everything even. She took the picture once she was done to make sure that I was satisfied or wanted any other changes. With tip, the total came out to $60 which is great for the attention to detail. Probably the friendliest and welcoming salon I've been to. Needed to do a last minute makeover but I couldn't find a salon that would match my availability. Luckily, I remembered Salon Ava on the second floor of Palama Supermarket building. Suzy greeted me with a big smile and was ready to do my hair. I have quite a lot of hair and a harsh bleached peekaboo which would make it difficult to fix up, but she took the challenge and gave me a wonderful layered lob with highlights. My hair looks healthy too. My fiance loved the new look so much. I'm so ready for my pre-wedding photoshoot! I didn't know where she went after Salon Tiffany but found her again here! Let's just say I had some crazy hair cuts back then. But now that I am older straight across is my thing. This place looked very busy coming in. However, there were many stylists working so we waited less than a minute to be seated. Stylist I got definitely had skill. She also cut my hair using mainly scissors which reminded me of haircuts in Japan. She was precise and went over different parts of my head to ensure that nothing was missed and hair alignment was matching. I'm a big fan of massage style shampoo services and though I didn't get much of that, the end product was great. Overall, I recommend both women and men to give this place a try.
