So, I'm a skeptic with things that I have no knowledge about beforehand. Hair extensions is one of them. My daughter wanted hair extensions for prom. Cost was a factor. Quality. Length. Real hair vs plastic. Durability. All the above. Thanks to the reviews on Yelp, I chose this location and business. The service: made an appointment for a consultation with Casey (per Cindy's recommendation). The whole point was in our best interest. Oh and there is zero cost for this! If you're going to get hair extension, and pay a pretty penny, do it right was the message. We made a very good choice to move forward with the consultation. The montrose area is known for uppity well to do costs. I'm cautious when it comes to finances. So I really wanted good stuff especially if we were paying for this. Returned today to pay the rest of the balance (for what we ordered, it was $200 - real hair, 20", 8 sections). Hair color was matched. My daughter has ombré color. These worked out so well!!! She's getting them put in now. So far, so good. Michelle was able to see is with less than a day's notice. Called early afternoon. In now. Excellent customer service. That is one thing I do not mind paying for - if the customer service is there and great, it makes it that much easier to work with a business. See my previous review on this business for the rest. Salon 2DYE4 is the recently opened salon by Casey Derouen, formerly of SOK. I followed him here after hearing he was opening his own shop. If there's anyone in Houston who knows hair, and especially hair color, it's Casey. He is a master at it. He's done a ton of training, so you know you're in good hands. I booked an appointment with him originally after seeing one of my friend's hair color turn out so gorgeous. I couldn't resist giving him a shot. And it was a good decision. I came here recently to the newly opened shop to get my hair done by him. He is very patient and enthusiastic and has a lot of advice to give about how to color your hair. I didn't feel rushed or interrupted when telling him what I was hoping to get as a finished result. The end result is exactly what I hoped for. After so many disappointments at other salons in the past, it was refreshing. And he keeps track of how he colors your hair, so you're sure to get the same formula next time. I haven't met anyone who sincerely cares about how your hair looks as much as Casey does. He takes his time and does an excellent job. Hair coloring isn't cheap, so if you're going to get it done, it's comforting to get it done by someone who does it right. read more

I've left Texas but just realized I never wrote a review and wanted to correct that. I found this salon though yelp back when they were located in Montrose. Casey did my colors for years. I naturally have very thick, full hair, and although not curly the texture can be frizzy. This combined with my natural dark color - almost black- has made it hard to find someone who could change my hair color and still have it look good and not brassy. That's until I met Casey. Casey is a true artist. For one, he can really create any look you want, and predict how your hair will react to the color change even when making extreme color changes- like going from dark brown to platinum. He is also a painter so he has a real understanding of color and light which for me always meant he could tailor a look I liked to suit my skin coloring, etc so it suited me. Casey is super fun and accommodating. He really has a southern charm and is all about accommodating what the client wants and still being honest about what will look good. My tip is that this is not a salon where you rush the process- Casey is an artist so don't expect to go in for an hour and have him rush through it. He takes his time and does a great job every time. And I cannot end this review without a shoutout to Jared who is the sweetest and always took care of me as well. I highly recommend Casey and Jared and this salon. I only stopped coming here because I moved to California. They supported all my hair dreams - from brown to red to blond to pink and I'm so glad to have worked with them! Wish I could give less than 1 star. I have never been treated so poorly as a customer in my life. I recently moved in the city and came across this place by way if Groupon. My appt was originally booked with Chandra, but I was called and told she had a death in the family (lie- she quit). My appt switched to Casey. I was coming in for a highlight touch up but wanted to add some low lights for dimension. Casey picked out the low light and foiled me hair. Color looked good (not great) but I was content. I dont wash my hair everyday and after highlights my hair becomes a bit more dry so I didnt wash if for a few days. Then I washed it... the low light washed out. The blonde was brassy and copperish in color and the low light had turned ashy with a green dingy hue. The salon is closed on Sun-Tues. I called the next Wed to share my concern. (1 wk later). Came in the next day. I showed my concerns to Casey. He agreed the color had changed and had washed out. I showed him where we tried to match the natural color to the low light and how that had not taken place. He agreed the color was off and that he should have done more around the face and throughout the top. He also agreed it already looked like I had roots. I asked if he could do something to bring back the brightness of my highlights as they were yellow, he told me once he corrected the low light, it would help the yellow color of the blonde. He foiled my hair and this time placed me under the steamer. His assistant rinsed my hair and dried it. ITS WAS WORSE. I was mortified. I waited for Casey to finish with the client he had in effort to not embarrass him. He asked what I thought and I just made a sad face. I said, "its just not what I wanted, I feel like that colors are off and its just very dingy, looking". I told him color didnt match my natural and my blonde was very orange. He snapped, told me he refused to touch my hair again. He went on to tell me that I had horrible hair and that I came in looking way worse. This was not the case. Yes, I needed a trim and my roots done but the health of my hair was and has always been well/professionally maintained. He told me "the good thing about owning your own salon is being able to kick people out" He walked to the door, opened it and told me to leave. I had not been rude, ugly, or insulting. I even said things like "maybe WE can use a toner or something to adjust the tone". I was careful not to be mean so I said things like "we" or "how about we try". Nothing mattered. He said he would not guarantee the color if I didnt buy the entire Wella Brand Line. I informed him I used Salon/Professional Grade Loreal and Nioxin Color Care products, never in my life have I had to switch the line I use to match the color brand. In fact, I never have and I have never had an issue like this or any for that matter. He said "you have horrible hair, I can only work with what you have and I refuse to touch your hair again". I told him I wanted my money back and he refused. Stood at the door and said "get out of my salon." At the initial appt, his assistant, Cindy, called and asked if I could come early. I did. When I got there I made a comment about needing to do my (own)nmake up while I sit in the chair. Casey suggested letting his assistant, Jared, do my make up. He said, "if you want Jared can do it while you sit. He likes to do makeup and does a pretty good job." At no time was any mention of a charge or anything brought up. This was mentioned to me in a "let him play with your make up kind of way". While Jared was rinsing my hair I asked if he went to school or was going to school for make up application. He told me no, but that he did make up in High School while he was in drama. Jared used MY makeup, and well.... It was not great. I looked like I was in theater on stage. I had him stop and I did my own eye makeup and lips. When I went to check out they tried to charge me $65 for the make up application. I explained that there was no mention of any charge nor did I know it was a salon service being offered. I thought he was doing it in his spare time for practice or fun. Cindy made me feel bad and told me she would have to charge me a "make up retouch fee for $25" I did not want to hurt Jared's feelings (hes a sweetheart) or cause any issue so I paid it AND tipped him, only to go home and wash it off. It is against the law and Texas Cosmetology Commission to charge for a salon service that an individual is not licensed for. I had already contacted the TCC and will let them handle this. I went to have my hair fixed and heres the ringer.... the person who fixed my hair knew Casey. Casey apparently has a LONG history for this MANIC response to customers who are not pleased or have any issue. He will insult any previous work, personally insult and kick customers out. I was told he takes a lot of pills and is like this... wish I knew sooner. read more

When I first started seeing him my hair was a disaster nightmare freak show bird's nest. My hair now is the healthiest it has ever been and it is the color I should have been born with. I must update my review. So the first few times I went to this salon I was booked with Chandra. She quit and tried to get me to follow her but I thought the way she handled her exit from the salon wasn't very classy or professional so they started booking me with Casey. This past weekend was my second appointment with Casey and I'm so happy he's doing my hair now. Chandra was good, but even after three or four appointments with her she never got me quite where I wanted to be. Casey is AMAZING. My first appointment with him was a bit long because we were doing corrections on Chandra's work, but I left the salon completely gobsmacked at the final product. I have never gotten this result with my hair ever!! I've always wanted to be platinum blonde but every stylist I've ever gone to is too afraid to do it or advises against it. Not Casey. He does my color SO well it looks like my hair is naturally platinum blonde! It's wild. And you might thing that going platinum would wreak havoc on my hair, but it's quite the opposite. With a good cut from Casey my hair actually started growing, and I have little to no breakage. I'm not usually one to buy the product that they are selling in the salon but the prices of their products aren't outrageous and it's been helping the health of my hair. I recently moved to Houston and am SO grateful to have heard about this salon! I admit I was a little nervous about the gloss/glaze because I've had stylists in the past who turned my hair jet black instead of the deep, rich brown that I requested. However, COURTNEY got it right the first time! She was very attentive and listened carefully to EXACTLY what I wanted, which obviously paid off because my hair looks amazing. I went to Salon 2Dye4 with my girlfriend at her insistence that I needed a makeover. What I got was far more than a normal haircut and color. Cindy took her time with me, she explained the color choices that I liked and found the one which best fit my skin tone and eyes. She even took the time to dye my light eyebrows to match my new look. As for the cut itself, it was amazing. I haven't trusted my hair to anyone except for trimming the ends and keeping it one length in many years, she not only trimmed it, but layered it into a soft look which makes me look beautiful. When she finished, I felt like a million dollars and I love every inch of my new look. I moved here in Jan 2013 and I am always nervous to try a new place especially somewhere that I know very few people at. With that said, I decided to try this place out because of the reviews. The salon is very nicely arranged and it looks very pretty. The products they used on my hair were wonderful. The first time I went there I gave this place 4 stars (in my head). I can't remember the stylists' name, but when I went I got it all done from the owner. Although everything went great, I didn't get the style I wanted on my hair. My hair, at that point, was "virgin" hair (natural hair color, no dye) and I kept it that way. I only got a cut. I had a bob-style cut but since I had neglected going to a salon for the first few months because I didn't know where to go, it had grown out. Long story short, he didn't cut it the way I liked my bob. I went there my second time, and this time he convinced me to dye my hair a lighter shade of brown to match my complexion since I have natural very dark brown hair. No biggie, I was looking for a change anyway. This time though, he had an assistant to help him apply the color and blow dry/straighten my hair. The assistant was HORRIBLE!!!! I have had my hair done with stylists since I was 12 years old and this was the first time someone had BURNED MY SCALP simply by blow drying it. It hurt so badly and I know he knew because I kept pulling my head and saying it was too hot, but he did NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My head was sore and peeling for the next week, again this was only because of the blow dryer. I haven't gone back again (last time I went was in June 2013). The main stylist (owner) is great although I think he is better with color than cut. The male assistant is awful. Therefore, it gets 3 stars. read more

They are both truly amazing artists when it comes to hairstyles. I always walk away feeling pretty again. I trust them enough to leave decisions about my hair 100% in their hands. I never write reviews because I feel as though they are a waste of my time but because I found Casey through reviews, I will now share in hopes that those in need like me a year ago will gain the same great gift, a hair dresser for life! After two years of many bad cuts, over processed highlights with hair breakage, I finally went to google and started doing some research. I found Casey through the internet and read a ton of awesome reviews on him and thought I would try him out. I was definitely skeptical about how good he was but I am now a believer and one of his products of perfection! Things I love about Casey: - Casey listens to the look I am going for (each time it varies) and he is right on target every time! - Casey takes his time to do my hair, I don't feel like I am being pushed out the door once the next client arrives. - Casey cares about the quality/health of my hair. - Casey caters to the amount of maintenance I want to do. I am much lower maintenance than most women who highlight their hair. I only go once every 4 months but my hair looks good up until the next time I get it done! Casey is Horrible!!!! I called a few days in advance to book my appointment. I work late so I asked for the latest appt they had. The woman said 6pm. I took it and raced to get there after work. I was running about 10 min late with traffics so I called to let them know. She said it was fine. I ended up arriving only 9 min late only to find that my stylist had taken another client. I ended up having to wait 45 min to even sit in the chair! Casey first made me stand to do the cut...I thought that was weird, but didn't say anything. He then quickly went to start cutting when I stop to ask if he was even going to ask what I wanted?? It was an honest question..? He got all flustered and upset that I was human and was talking to him..and started to yell at me. I told him I was just curious if he cared about what I wanted him to do..? He said I had bad energy and he didn't want to cut my hair any more! HA. He did have some sort of ridiculous giant crystal around his neck so I guess he believes it will protect him..or maybe it will give him a soul, which he badly needs. Hahaha I thought this whole situation was hysterical and soooooo unprofessional. I had driven all the way there, waited for 45 min and now had wet hair. This place is a joke, it looks like they had a xmas party in the 80's and never took down the crappy decorations, it's dirty and it smells like cat pee. I bought the 50$ voucher for $35 that the salon is offering. Little did I know that I would pay an additional $35 for my haircut. The website does not state prices for haircuts. When I spoke to Casey on the phone, he told me that a haircut for long hair would be $85. So in the end I paid $70 for a $85 haircut. When I bought the deal, I thought, well, how much more than $50 can it cost? I felt this was not a completely straightforward deal. Casey did give me an excellent haircut. He took his time. We talked about what kind of haircut I wanted and I got exactly what I had pictured. My hair does look really, really good. I felt quite a bit of pressure to buy additional products. At one point, I even mentioned that I am currently unemployed. I thought this might clear things up. Amazingly, even after I said that, Casey kept the pressure on. It made me uncomfortable. In fact, I've never felt so pressured to buy extras. I wish Casey the best of luck in his new endeavor. I won't be going back. Casey is the closest thing to a hair miracle worker you can get. My hair is ULTRA fine (thin), thanks to my genetics (my mom and great grandma have it too). I came to this salon about 9 months ago, and I can honestly say my hair has changed even in such a short time, and I even saw changes the FIRST time I came in. I am a blonde and have had highlights for over 12 years. For whatever reason, be it my last stylist or my own styling, the front and top of my hair had become more and more damaged and was broken (this gradually happened over a year period or so). In addition to the damage, the highlights themselves were never quite the color I was looking for. SO...when I came to see Casey, I was in need of a lot of help and desperate to find someone who undersold what I was going for, and who also cared for the health of my hair. On my first visit we discussed what I liked and didn't like about my hair, what I was looking for, and reviewed photos of colors he had done on other blondes. He told me I was looking for a "cool" blonde, and he was right on! I was so happy and relieved when I saw the color that first visit. Since then, the color has never disappointed, and my hair has become healthier and stronger as he takes care not to put damaging color on the parts of the hair already blonde. He also does a treatment that protects my hair between visits. If all that wasn't enough, Casey himself is a delight to be around, and has a great energy! The other staff is amazing as well. I went to this salon for the first time today. They are in a new location which is nice and has a lot of convenient parking. I could tell that Casey (the hairstylist) is very passionate about what he does. He was excited to be able to work on my hair. He is a master colorist, which didn't seem like a big deal to me one way or the other as the most I need is to maybe cover a few gray hairs. But he chose a great color that added some very subtle warmth, and used products that brought out a lot of shine. Casey is a pro, he really knows what he's doing and I could tell that since he started the process. I had hair extensions and some came off and he took the time to reglue my hair!!!! Wow wow in that moment I knew he wasn't just a good colorist he was a REAL Stylist and a very good one. I left the place looking and feeling AMAZING. I just started going here and I love it already! One of my friends found Casey 5 or 6 years ago and kept telling me to go to him. I should have listened to her and gone earlier! Casey did a great job cutting and coloring my hair. He sat down and looked at what my hair was doing and how to best control it. I have been going to Casey for the past 4 years. He is the consumate professional. After hearing of his opening his own salon, I was more than excited to follow him. The studio is very artsy and warm. The stylists are so amazing. I brought my 9yr old in for her 1st haircut. We did a Mommy/Daughter haircut day and it was a memory that my daughter and I won't soon forget. Upon coming in, Casey gave me the grand tour and Jerrid stayed with my daughter and made her feel extremely welcome. They catered to her every need and they even let her feed the fish. She has not stopped talking about her hair and mainly her experience. She told me that she loves the salon and can't wait to go back. Casey is an amazing colorist. I have done several different shades and diverse cuts with him. He listens to what I want and gives me what I requested, yet he always makes it way better than I could imagine. Casey is a perfectionist with his haircuts/styles. He won't rush me out or turn me out into the streets until sheer perfection is reached. I really love and appreciate his incredible work ethic. I don't always know what would look best on me (I don't do hair!); Jerrid does! He is the ultimate professional, who is educated on so many techniques and products, but he does not forget the artistic side of doing hair. Jerrid knows how the perfect hair color and style can completely transform a person. He did this for me. I started a new chapter in my life, and by Jerrid making over my hair I was able to really embrace the new me. It has been empowering. I would have never had the vision to say "do this to my hair" but he knew exactly what would compliment my features, skin tone, hair texture...yes, he took all of this into consideration. Having just moved to Houston from Los Angeles, I feared I would never find a good colorist. Well, I'm thrilled to say I didn't find a good colorist, I found a GREAT one with Casey! Although the color is enough to keep me coming back as long as I live here, the cut was fantastic too. Thanks Casey and Cindy for making my visits awesome each time I come in. BTW, I've read a few reviews about price. Great colorists are rare to find and worth every penny. Personally, I think the blow dry is too pricey, so I simply book in the late afternoons so I have the option of leaving with my hair wet--no biggie. Two weeks ago I had the best hair color and cut ever. Casey is a magician! For a long time I had been looking for a new hair stylist to manage my badly colored, badly cut and considerably thinning hair. I read reviews that stated that Casey took the time to talk to the client and listen to what was needed. And that he was a color expert. So I made the decision to try his salon. That was a really good decision. First of all, there was no wait. I walked in and Casey was ready for me. He spent quite a while just talking to me and finding out what I wanted and what I didn't want. Somehow he understood exactly what I needed and when I wasn't sure what I wanted, he made good suggestions. All the time he was working on my hair he explained to me what he was doing. He lightened the color - something my previous hair stylist told me she couldn't do, because it wouldn't cover the gray - and gave me an updated edgy cut. The end result was amazing and I love it! I have washed my hair several time since the visit, and it is very easy to get it looking really good. I did find the first visit to be rather pricey, but Casey assured me that future visits would be a lot cheaper as there would be less corrective work to be done. I will definitely be going back to Casey at Salon 2DYE4. read more

Last night, I went to Salon 2DYE4 for the very first time and it was AMAZING! Once I got in the chair, it was very clear to me that Casey cares about what he does immensely. He asked me a ton of questions about my hair and how it got to the terrible point it was at (my words NOT his). We had a serious conversation about maintenance, and Casey quickly recognized I was not looking for something crazy. While my hair was being processed, we talked about products. Never once did I feel pressured to buy anything. But after our discussion at the beginning of the appointment and the one we had while I was being processed I realized, it was time for an upgrade. If I am going to spend all the money for my hair to look amazing then I need to do my best to keep it this was. Casey started me off with the basics, shampoo, conditioner, and heat protection. And each product was ONLY $15. Never once did he try to sell me on anything I did not need, nor did he try to sell me shampoo and conditioner that were crazy expensive. When my color process was finished he cut my hair. THANK GOD he did not over cut. My hair is very long and I LOVE my very long hair. He cut just what needed to be cut and no more! When I FINALLY got to see the complete final product, I was immediately just elated with the result! I am 100% going back and will be recommending the salon to anyone who asks either where my hair was done or where they should go to get their hair done! read more

I can't add much to this salon's already GLOWING reviews! I moved to Houston recently, and was in dire need of a new hairdresser. I'm pretty picky, so I looked up probably every salon before choosing Casey, based on his reviews AND the pictures of his clients. When I arrived at Salon 2DYE4, all the stylists, including Casey, were very friendly (I ended up having some pretty great conversations with every single one of them!) and impressively courteous. Before Casey finished up with his previous client, he came up to me, introduced himself, and examined my hair to decide what kinds of shampoo, conditioner, and treatment would be best for my hair type. From beginning to end, Casey "prescribed" the perfect treatments, from custom shampoo/conditioner, to a cut tailored for me when curly AND straight, to product suggestions to make my styles really work for me. He gave me product suggestions, but did NOT pressure me to buy any products then and there. Instead, he just suggested that I consider them when I ran out of my current products. Overall, Casey's hair cuts (note: I got just a cut, not a color) are definitely worth the wait, time (he spent nearly three hours with my hair), and money. Furthermore, although many styles pictured on this Yelp page are mostly straight-hair, I HIGHLY recommend him to women who wear their hair curly or both curly/straight. read more

About five years ago I booked my first appointment with Casey. This was before he opened up his own salon. That afternoon, I walked out of the salon having finally found a keeper!!! I have curly hair and Casey does a wonderful job cutting and layering my hair. Most importantly, he LISTENS to your requests. If I want it trimmed to a specific length, he will only trim that much and no more!!! Casey also does a great job cutting/trimming my bangs, which I like them to be full and softly layered that I can either wear all at the front of my forehead or side swept. I've been to a few other hairstylists before I found Casey and I can attest that it is quite difficult for others to cut bangs just right. Casey is definitely a master at his craft! read more

I recently Visited Salon 2DYE4 and my experience was absolutely great! Chandra was the stylist that took care of me she did a fantastic job dying my hair I left the salon very satisfied with the color that my hair turned out I did somewhat of an ombre with plenty of dimension Chandra was really helpful when it came to giving me the best advice when it came down to colors that would fit my skin tone. The atmosphere of the salon is great there's always music playing which just adds to the experience. I will definitely be a regular customer from now on. read more
