If I were Asian, I suspect I'd be giving this establishment 5 stars, but I am Caucasian, and so I can tell you that yes, they do cut Caucasian hair, and they do a fine job. Since retirement, I let my hair grow long because it's cheaper. When my split ends start to drive me crazy, which takes a little bit less than a year, I go looking for a cheap place to chop them off. This is my go to salon now. It's about a mile from my house, parking is free, and I can get it done for half the price charged by the fancy beauty shop I used when I was working. I gave 4 stars instead of 5, because I can't get anything more sophisticated than a trim done, should I want to, because of the language barrier. They probably are skillful enough to do just about anything, but since we rely heavily on nonverbal communication, there's a limit to what they can do for me. Something off about this place. Every time I try and make appointment they are "fully booked" but if you are white or Asian no problem to get an appointment same day. I am brown skinned, a few other people have also had similar experiences, and my wife (who is white) walked in 30 mins after they denied me an appointment, she sat for a trim right away. read more

They helped me to go from black hair to a rich caramel. I've known this young lady for many years.... and she truly is great with hair colors. Her brother is an excellent apprentice. I'd go out of my way to come back here. Customer service also top notch. Walk-ins are welcome if you don't mind the wait on the weekends. I wish I found this place sooner. Easy parking. Temperature check after checking-in. They have hand sanitizer at the front. Every staffs had their masks on and was wearing it the proper way. They even have a room divider screen at the hair wash area. So I recently had a bad haircut at another hair salon in the U-district. I wanted to fix my unevenness haircut, but I didn't want to go back to the other hairdresser; so I scheduled an appointment with Ben because of the good reviews on Yelp. When I was explaining and showing him a googled picture of how I wanted my hair to be, he was so patient and understood what I was asking for. I came here for a last minute regular manicure and for $12, it was not bad at all. I originally wanted a French ombré but the lady who did my nails said she doesn't ombré, so I opted for a single color. Again, for the price, I cannot complain about that. She was so gentle and nice when cutting my nails and cuticles and I did not bleed at all. When she applying the color, she was careful to make sure none of it got on my skin and she even used a brush and dipped it in nail polish remover when she was done to clean up my edges. Even though I got regular polish, she used UV light to dry my nails and made sure they were thoroughly dry before letting me go. Her arm massage also felt really nice! I also liked how they waited until the end to have me pay, instead of having me pay and tip right in the middle of the service. The only downside is that they don't do ombré and they don't use paraffin wax. But for a basic manicure I would definitely come back. My pictures don't do it justice because I have naturally ugly and rough hands, but the experience was great. read more

I love salon 206! I have been coming to here for years to get my hair done. I have had multiple stylists work with me and every time I get my hair cut or colored I am so happy with the result. They give the best head massages during shampooing and I swear my hair never felt so clean! The most recent time I came I was with Lan and she the the most amazing job on cutting, coloring and styling my hair. We did a balayage and cut on previously colored hair. Ben alwayssss does a great job on my cuts. He executes exactly what I ask for (not an inch too short lol). He's very careful and is a perfectionist. Last time, I got a long layered cut. My hairdresser of many years retired and I've been on the hunt for a new salon. I think I found it! I went to Salon 206 for the first time today and Amy cut my hair. She did a great job of giving me what I asked for and I'm very happy with my cut. I have not tried any of their other services, but I would. Everyone was wearing masks, there was hand sanitizer available and plexiglass screens between you and the receptionist. Next up I'll be getting a pedicure. I've been coming here for over a decade and each time I'm amazed at the awesome job they do. I don't even request for anyone specific because everyone who's cut my hair does an amazing job. They know how to deal with my long, thick, puffy hair and it only takes them less than 40 minutes, not over an hour. My hair still looks great when it starts growing in which is definitely a sign of a good haircut. The extra added bonus is that they give amazing scalp massages when they wash your hair and it's all for a reasonable price. Btw they provide amazing service for women and men. I've been looking for a new place to color my hair after my hairdresser is no long available. A friend of mine recently got her hair colored here and it turn out great, so I gave salon 206 a try. Lan and her staffs are very welcoming when I first arrive. When I told Lan what I wanted, which is dying my hair pink, she knows exactly what I was talking about and went for it. I was there for 3 hours long and she made me feel comfortable and talks me through the whole process. And as for the result, my hair turn out the way I wanted! I've been coming here to get my hair cut (a woman with curly hair), and I've also been bringing my son here (he's six this year) since we moved here three years ago. They're very accommodating to fit you in, pretty quick and super cheap. The women all know what they're doing and I've never left without a cute style and a cut that I like--for $25. They also have a woman that does excellent mani/pedis, but they only have one girl and two chairs. So book ahead of time to avoid a wait! My son is always excited to get his hair cut, he gets a tootsie pop after he's finished and the girls are always cute with him. We'll keep coming here for sure! read more

I honestly don't know when I've had a worse manicure in my life. Everyone who works here is really nice, but my dog could do my nails better. They cut them all different lengths, filed them horribly (they're literally scraggly??), and couldn't even paint them within the lines. It was so awful. I didn't even want them to fix it, I just wanted to get out of there so I could go straight to another nail salon and get them done by a professional. The stylist saved my hair after I gave myself a quarantine chop.. Great to see them wearing masks and taking COVID precautions at the salon. The haircut itself was pretty basic, he fixed up my shoulder length cut and thinned it out. He did go a little higher than I liked framing one side, but I chalk it up to being harder to gauge face shape with a mask on. Overall, great price ($25) for a haircut! read more

Oh, man. This is definitely an undiscovered gem of Mount Baker/Beacon Hill area. I had a haircut/wash/style for only $30! Admittedly, I was a little nervous coming here as the hairstylist didn't speak much English and I don't speak Vietnamese at all! But all of those feelings melted away when I saw my flat, out-of-shape hair get teased into a super cute lob (long bob.) My stylist's name at Salon 206 is My Linh. She works there on Wednesdays, for sure and I think another day or two of the week. I am very satisfied with her work. She adapted very fast to my style in which my hair actually sits on my head. Never before have I had people complimenting on my haircut weeks afterward until I had her as my stylist/barber. Well, my guy gets his hair cut here very well by the same woman and it's under $20 including a generous tip so that's a HUGE win. I've been for mani/pedi with the little one a few times now and they're super nice and friendly to her especially, they have shellac and lots of great colors, pedi is $25 on it's own so not cheapest in town but not bad, and the chairs are great. I had a bad experience here and I normally will not post, but in this case I will. My friend loves Salon 206 and I guess she sees Lan. I didn't realized that, but I got Amy and my experience was disappointing. First, I went in to bleach the roots, which in the past for me has been fairly simple. I also asked if she could tone my hair pink. She said no, there was not enough time. I said not a problem. Long story short, my roots turned orange, she also missed spots around my face that stayed dark (they are tiny, but still). When she saw my roots, she said, "OH, do you want me to tone that down a little!" I said, "Yes!" I was trying not to look horrified. She put toner on and left if for 5 minutes. The wash was great, but I had yellow spots where my roots were and the rest of the hair is white. I was charged $120. She charged extra for the toner. I did not get a haircut and I did not tip. I have never in my life not tipped! It was such a bummer. She said I could come back next week and she could rebleach it. She didn't want to leave the bleach on too long because she thought my hair was going to be damaged. I am going home to California next week, and don't want to pay another $120 to rebleach it and tone it. I would not go here. And...I feel bad saying this. read more

I'm surprised by the almost 5 star this place got. Because my experience was the epitome of the absolute most horrible thing you would want to happen to you at a salon. Back story: My friend recently colored my hair a light color and because I'm naturally dark hair with thick dark brows it looked weird so I needed a brow wax asap. I live in the rainier valley where there are TONS of salons that will accommodate you quickly without an appt. This is one of those times where I should've done definitely done my research. Or I thought I did by yelping the place and all previous reviews led me astray. Shame on you fellow Yelp reviewers! Anyhoo, I go in there and asks for a brow wax. The lady didn't really speak English but knew I wanted a wax but I'm assuming this Lan that every body's talking about was busy cutting someones hair. And they said the wax room was currently occupied so it would be a 1o minute wait which I was absolutely fine with. But then the first lady who greeted me at the door told me to follow her and led me to the hair washing station and told me to have a seat. I was a little confused but OK, I went with it? I guess that should've been a clear tip off for me but I did what she said anyway. The next five-ten minutes are a blur. All I know is at one point she tried telling me something in broken English and Vietnamese and I was extremely confused and then confusion turned into shock when she showed me the mirror and half of the my eyebrow on my left side was literally ripped off and I had absolutely no hair there. I was basically left with half a strip of brow hair and to match the confused/puzzled look I was feeling inside was my face. I don't know. I didn't have a dramatic freak out and bitch the lady out as I should've done. The lady still charged me $10 and I still tipped because I'm in the tipping business also and because I'm a nice dumb ass. Looking back on it now, she shouldn't have charged me at all but oh well *sigh* You live and you learn I guess. I'm still alive and I've learned that I will NEVER go back to Salon 206. For anything. I don't really like having to grow out my eyebrows and having to be one of those people that HAVE to draw their eyebrows on. Thanks a lot Salon 206. Now I can scare kids without even trying. My coworkers got their hair done here so I wanted to try it out as well. Came in for a hair cut and color. I didn't get the names of who did my hair but it was an older woman and a man. Showed them a picture of what I wanted (burgundy color) and wanted two inches off with layers. They told me that since my hair is naturally black, they would have to bleach it. I've been to many different salons and I've done my own hair before and have never had to bleach my hair because it takes in color pretty well even though it's naturally dark. But I trusted them and let them do it. They said it would be $120 for color and $65 for each time they have to bleach. They said it would probably only take once though. It was already really pricey but again, I trusted them. In the end, I turned out really liking the color. But once they were done, they asked to curl my hair and I politely said "no thanks". After being in there for 5 hours, I just wanted to get my cut and leave. But they insisted they take a picture of it styled so I just let them. She started curling my hair before my cut and I was confused. Then once she was finished she said, "oh, I forgot your haircut!" And insisted I just come back tomorrow.... I was pretty irritated. When I went to pay, the total came up to be way more than I expected. Turns out they bleached my hair twice but for one, it didn't even look like they were bleaching it a second time, and two, they didn't let me know they were going to or even ask. It's been almost two months now and my hair was fading to a brighter red which I didn't mind. But recently I've realized some parts of my hair have turned gray/green. This has never happened to me and I've been dying my hair red for the past 4 years. I'm left pretty disappointed now. Summary: Friendly staff. But wish they'd communicate more about what they were doing with my hair. Honestly think it's way overpriced for what you get. I really loved my haircut though! UPDATE: My hair has turned blue, green, and gray in different parts of my head. I don't see how this could happen but I'm super upset about it. read more
