A few weeks ago, my highlights were at least 3 months overdue for a touch-up, which I couldn't afford at the time. I went to Sally Beauty Supply on Thomas and Scottsdale, hoping to find the necessary supplies to do my highlights myself...and a little guidance to ensure I didn't fry my hair. After perusing the shelves, I was intimidated by all the options and began getting anxious about performing such an advanced procedure myself for the first time. I approached a staff member, who turned out to be the manager, Julie. She was FANTASTIC and helped me select the appropriate products for my hair and desired level of "lift," as well as all the required supplies. Most importantly, she encouraged me and gave me the confidence to highlight my hair myself! A couple weeks later, I returned to Sally's for conditioner. Julie remembered me, asked me to take out my ponytail to see my hair, and congratulated my highlighting job. She showed my hair off to other staff and even some fellow customers! Thank you, Julie! I've shopped here for years. I realize inflation but was shocked that a bottle of Wella Perm Color which for me which is a necessity as I'm a young grayer. I normally buy 4-6 bottles at a time, since my hair grows fast and is basically white. I paid 7plus just weeks ago which was an increase to last years price, but today it was a whopping 9.89, man oh man. Now some would be like that's just a few bucks, well it's a lot for 1.4 fluid ounces. Just bummed that I'm gonna use this last bottle then I think it's all naturalle for me. read more

I've shopped at the Scottsdale and Thomas store for years. The help is usually very good with an exception now and then when a staff member has been recently hired and doesn't know the product line or doesn't have a clue as to being able to answer a customer's questions, but I find that to be rare. Last week the staff member was exceptional and couldn't be more helpful and was a pleasure speaking to. She even saved me $20 by letting me know that by applying and being accepted for a Sally's store card it would reduce my bill from $80 to $60. I walked out not having to pay a cent until next month. I love shopping there and the products are as good as they come. Ion color, developer and color lock have always been my favorites. In fact, nothing I've purchased at Sally's has disappointed me. If I could add zero stars I would!!! I went to my regular location and the store is permanently closing with no mention of that. So I drove another 20 minutes to go to a location where I show to see a sign posted saying they will return in 30 minutes-no time stated. As I stood there and waited a girl slowly walked to the door and then said she was leaving for her break at 4:45 and the store closes at 6. Then asked me what if I knew what I wanted and at this point said just forget it! This is the first time in my life ever posting a bad review as I am in customer service! This kind of service should not be permitted no matter where you go! Keep in mind really you really want to piss people off have them drive to multiple locations when gas is $5 a gallon I suggest you keep doing what you are doing! I called to see if this location was open, they said yes and didn't mention that they were only doing curbside pick up, nor did they mention that they didn't accept cash. If you are broke like I am right now, and you have to, gasp, color your own hair, Sally is the place to go. You can pretty much customize what color you do, just expect minimal help from the employees. They are nice, but definitely not colorists. You can also get some other basic supplies there like brushes and some other stuff I never really pay attention to. My customer service experience has been so bad here that I had to take the time to write a review, which i never take the time to do. I began to frequent Sally's when it was my nearest neighborhood beauty supply. I moved recently and this location is closest to me now. I looked up their store hours because it was 5pm on a Sunday and I wasn't sure when they closed. It indicated 6pm online. I pulled up at about 520pm and their store looked completely closed. The gates were pulled in covering all of the windows. With a brief background in retail, I figure this was a tactic to discourage more customers from coming in or I may have looked at the hours wrong. My hunch was confirmed when I approached the door and came in to a cashier with her upper body completely slouched over the counter with her hands supporting her face. She "greeted" me with a 'hello welcome to sallys" but with a "oh gosh another customer" tone and body posture. This particular layout was a bit different so I was not able to identify the specific product I needed right away but I was reluctant to ask a clearly disgruntled employee to try and make this trip a bit quicker. I found a couple of things that I was looking for but their was a particular "argan oil" I could not find and figured "oh well". As the cashier rings up my items, I look to the left and see an "argan" display. Just was I was looking for but the oil was not there so I asked the cashier, "where can I find that argan product but the oil?". The cashier, after an awkward pause looked up as if I was bothering her replied, "what?!". I repeated my questions and she pointed and said in the very back of which ever aisle. I hate coming to this sally's. I'm not sure if the sole requirement for sallys employment is crazy color hair and heavy eyeliner, but can we please get some customer service? I definitely plan on traveling a distance to a mom and pop where the prices are cheaper and the customer service is better before I spend 60 dollars are three items all while rung out by an annoyed employee. read more

I'll admit it. I have an addiction to hair color. I have had every color under the sun and because I change it so often I can't afford to have someone else do it. Plus, I'm kind of a control freak when it comes to my hair and the color it is. Boxed dyes never turn out the way they look on the box so I started taking matters into my own hands and started mixing it all myself with the help of Sally's. When I first began to pursue that what I fondly refer to as "Ariel red" I went to Sally's and said PLEASE HELP MEEE!!! The girl working gave me exceptional advice, down to walking me through the colors, the brands, the tools I need. She was just as passionate about me achieving my dream color as I was! I proudly sported my bright red hair for well over 2 years. A record for me! Well now I'm over the bright red but not over the thrill of fun colors. I mean, life's too short for boring hair! I decided to go more natural all over but kept a streak of fun to color whatever I feel the need for at the moment. It's my one piece of fun for my hair. I chose blue. I loved the blue but today when I went to Sally's I had my hopes and dreams on pink. I walked in and was greeted happily by the nice girl in the back. I returned the hello and made a beeline to where I know the crazy semi permanent colors to be. The only one missing... Was pink. I sighed. Disappointment welling over me. I tried to make another decision. The nice girl asked me if I was finding everything ok. I told her sadly pink is gone. I wouldn't recommend it. This is a small store and yet I had higher expectations. The ethnic / Black hair care section here is lacking and mainstream. I expect a store like this to be niche and have unique items. Most of what I want is out or not stocked in the first place. I've been in and out asking for different things I know I've seen in other Sally's. Usually there's nail polish sales but everything including that is overpriced and it's not like you couldn't get a lot of the same brands at the grocery store. The staff don't really seem to be around to help, there's plenty of times I've walked up and down the isles without being looked at or greeted. I shop here frequently for hair color and nail products because I live close by. I wish I had $10 for each time I received different coloring tips from employees; I'd be able to quit my job and retire to the Caribbean. Every employee with whom I have spoken in this Sally's has given me different advice; always the complete opposite of what I had been told before. Shouldn't employees at Sally's have to go through special training? Employee #1- "You don't want the red tones in your hair? You should get the 6N to neutralize the red." Employee #2- "You have red tones in your hair? You should get the 6NN. The 6N will give you red tones." What?! Needless to say, I still have coppery red tones AND a greenish tint in my hair. read more

Terrible customer service. Attempted to get some help with color but the only person working at the time felt it more important to get herself together (put her makeup on). Once her coworker arrived I thought I had better chances of getting help....nope. They were both in the back chatting while one of the girls proceeded to put lashes on. Apparently I interrupted them because when I asked for help the girl motioned at me to ask my question while waving her eyelash at me. The other girl just looked at her coworker hoping she would be the one to help. Needless to say I walked out with nothing but terrible service (lack of). I don't recommend this location. read more

The most disgusting customer service I have EVER experienced. The lady working was rude to me every time I asked a question and answered each question extremely condescendingly. Her boyfriend or some guy she was cuddling with in the front of the store was harassing everyone who walked in. When I went to get rung up he kept staring at me and calling me names. I was so unbelievably uncomfortable I decided not to buy the product I had in my hand and leave. While leaving the store the employees boyfriend FOLLOWED ME OUT and flipped me off while cussing me out. such a disturbing experience and absolutely unacceptable for any business, let alone a corporate and nationally recognized one. Eh, fairly small store. However, even smaller for me because I am limited to the "Ethnic hair care section" Le sigh. I needed oil sheen (which makes your hair super shiny and stuff) and the only bottle they had was one that didn't even have a top on it so the employee suggested I go elsewhere. I'm used to going into a Sally's and being able to ask the people there for advice on color and get answers, I mean isn't that why they require you to have experience with this sort of thing in order to work there? No one came up to ask me or my sister if we needed help, although they went up and asked everyone else. Both employees were mostly chatting amongst each other and talking about closing the bars to the store earlier so people would get the hint. huh? I decided to DIY my roots after having my hair done professionally for years. I'm a natural brunette living as a platinum blonde.
