One thing I have noticed about posting reviews on yelp is that people find out bits and pieces about your life, review by review....so here is more info on me. I dye my hair. I have just started to get a bit of gray on my temples and hate it. I decided to go to an actual supply store instead of buying the kits. I normally buy them at walmart etc, but havent been happy so I ended up here. The store is not huge but has alot of stuff in it, hair colors, things for nails, makeup etc..anything to do with beauty, they have it. I was cheerfully greeted a girl( who I found out is the manager) who happily assisted me in finding the exact color I needed, the wee accessories that went along with it as well as instructions on how to do the deed when I got home. She was so helpful and so nice. I am amazed to discover that buying professional hair color products is much cheaper than the kits and wayyyy more than getting it done at a salon. There is plenty of parking out front. I look forward to trying out my new products, and if all goes well I will be back to see Sally again. I hate my greys! read more

Sally Beauty - Cosmetics & Beauty Supply Near Me - Calgary, Alberta

Like other American stores that venture over the Canadian border (Krispy Kreme and Target), this place is also a huge disappointment. Whenever I'm in the US, I always try to check out Sally's Beauty because they carry lots of beauty supplies that are normally not available to people outside the trade. So I figured that I would experience the same thing here - Nope! I gave this place the benefit of the doubt the first time I was here, a lot of items are low on stock and it looked cramped and dingy. But apparently that's how it always is. When selecting nail polish be careful to look on the labels on the bottom of the bottle to make sure it's the color you're really looking for - they tend to stack overflow of one color to the next slot (that's out of stock) so their display looks full . . . I'm not sure if it's because this place is in the NE but the people who work here friggen hate life. The last time I was here, there was a sale that involved a free item with purchase. Said free item was not on the shelf. Me: Could you let me know if there are any left in stock? Cashier: *eye roll* . . . No Me: Would I be able to get a replacement since it's out of stock? Cashier: No Seriously what is the point of advertising the sale if it's not going to be honored? And to the cashier - you work in a beauty supply store - use your employee discount to buy some hair coloring to fix your hack dye job and some nail polish to cover your disgusting nails you clearly trim using your teeth! The image you're currently presenting is "Hey, if you shop here you'll look like me" No thanks read more

I checked out Sally's Beauty Supply over the weekend as a friend highly recommended I go, and I wanted to see if I could find a decent travel blow dryer and to check out some low ammonia dyes, even though I don't make a habit of using potentially harsh dye products at home. However, I ended up pretty disappointed with my experience. Firstly, these guys don't really carry name brands for products such as makeup/shampoos/etc, so I hadn't really heard of any of them and whether they were cruelty free. When I got to the dye section, I was completely overwhelmed by the amount of color and developers they carried. There were literally 8 people behind the small front till area (maybe training). I attempted to grab the attention of one of them and miserably failed. I thought I finally had the attention of one, when another lady trying to fry out her hair to a platinum blonde color snagged her away. No one else was bothering to help, and it looked like several customers were lingering around. I figured that I wasn't going to get any help, and that really, by the time one purchases the colour, developer, and supplies needed to mix and stuff, Sally's really isn't any cheaper than going and buying my normal $25 henna treatment at LUSH. I would rather spend an afternoon and some extra money at the hairdressers, than hang out in this hell hole longer than I have to waiting for someone to answer my questions. read more

I have a pro card to this store and love coming here just for the discount I get, the products they carry for waxing and nails work really well, I have makeup, a curling wand, straightener, blow dryer and thermal protection spray from here and have no complaints. As one reviewer did post below, they dont carry a lot of brand name products, but I have found many of the products they do have to be comparable. If I want a brand name item I will go to cosmoprof and pick something up, but you have to be a certified esthetician for that! And they're usually pretty snobby :P To sum things up, I like the service I get here, the product quality is good, and the value is decent. Plus they allow everyone to shop with their store, you dont have to be a pro! read more

I buy pretty much all of my hair styling products here. It's not cheap, but the quality of the hair care products they sell are comparable to salon brands and the prices are way better. They always have great sales and if you buy the club card you always pay less than the sticker price. I wouldn't rely too much on the store staff to give you colouring advice unless they are a licensed hair stylist, but I do trust their opinions on shampoos and styling aids. If you're into nail design they have lots of great stuff to do all sorts of cool nail stuff that I'm too impatient to try. read more

I give this place 3 stars purely on the fact that they have a large selection. Contrary to the other review, I have found the staff to be extremely unhelpful, and I am oftentimes not greeted at all when I come in. Although the staff situation could be improved, I appreciate the selection here, as there is everything from waxing kits to nail polish, hair bleach to flat irons, and everything in between. It is a bit far, I wish that they had one more centrally located in Calgary. It is well worth the trip though, as their prices are so low! read more

I really enjoy my trips to Sally's. I am a regular at this location. I am usually accompanied by my sister who did the grey hair trend and we are frequently spotted in the hair dye aisle. Sally has tons of hair colours to choose from. And a lot of the products that popular YouTubers use to get the perfect pastel shade. Wella Hair Colours work wonders, btw. I feel like a kid in a candy store whenever I visit Sally's. There are over hundreds of different nail polishes. I feel like Sally's gets a lot of the trendy stuff before the big-box department stores. For example, hair colour... grey hair has been in style for a few seasons and Sally's had dyes stocked before salons did. That's why I really like Sally's. I recently scoped out the hair extensions situation. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had a decent selection of hair extensions in basic colours and for a reasonable price. The one I was looking at was black, human hair extensions in 22 Inches, for $130 or $145 for non-Sally members. I was looking for the ponytail extension to complete my look for Halloween and sadly, this selection was sad! Only really fake looking hair for about $80. I would definitely recommend you check out Sally's at least once in your lifetime. There are so many items for your home or professional salon. A trip here will awaken your inner beautician, I would start off small maybe a DIY pedicure and not a Brazilian :P read more

I just found out there is a Sally's Beauty Supply in Calgary 3 days ago. I was so over the moon because I've been looking for a particular shade by China Glaze for a month or so. I've been to some beauty salons but I guess the sale girls weren't as excited about nail lacquers as me who can go on and on talking about nail lacquers like a car enthusiast. Anyways once the ramblings are over.... Sally offers a pretty good selection that fulfills my low key wish list : china glaze and Orly. I've also noticed manicure/pedicure gadgets, and all the other beauty basics: hair and skin products. I got a couple of strong clips so I don't have to struggle so much when I straighten my hair and the lovely sale's girl (I will get her name next time) helped me with my questions and concerns regarding my hair style. I'm a fan for sure!!!!!!!!!!! I had a great experience shopping there and I found what I was looking for. : ) read more

The staff are always very friendly and helpful - even calling around to other locations to find an out of stock item for me.

Worst service ever. Seriously, if people are buying your products and shopping at your store you should be treating them with respect and courtesy. I have bought quite a few products from this location and each and every time the employees are rude, unhelpful, and overall terrible. Asking for help to find something? *rolls eyes and points* "It's over there" Asking for a "professional opinion"? "I guess this one because it says so on the box" Honestly, I'm surprised they stay in business with the way they treat their customers. The appearance of the store makes it always look as though it's going through renovations, which it's not. It's drab and messy atmosphere always looks like that. Boxes everywhere, empty shelves, sales racks askew and in the way, countertops are always cluttered with promotional items. After my last visit I plan on finding another place to spend my money on good service and decent hair-care products. The prices: decent Selection: decent (depending on the product) Service: disgusting Atmosphere: a joke Overall: don't shop here read more

None of the Sally's beauty supply locations are good anymore. Used to come here religiously when it first opened, but when they kept opening other locations, the staff went WAY downhill. Last time I went in, the staff were extremely rude, and unknowledgeable. I'm not a professional stylists by any means, but I do know that you DONT put bleach on your hair, with 40 volume developer, for 45 minutes with heat, to lift medium blonde hair 1 shade. I guess there's no repercussions with frying people's hair off. Very sad that this chain went downhill so badly because it used to be my main go to. read more

I only recently discovered that Calgary had retail Sally's Beauty locations. I have only ever visited the one on Sunridge Way, but I'm a fan. Thus far, I've picked up Gelish polishes, acrylic powder, and silk wrap supplies. I didn't need any help picking out any of those things, as I've used them for years. I was asked by one of the ladies who had just started working there for information on soak-off, LED cured, gel polish systems, as she was pretty unfamiliar with them. She was an enthusiastic and curious "student." Her willingness to learn will no doubt make her an asset to Sally's. I've also picked up the supplies to start waxing at home. I did need some help with this, and it was a bit slow in coming: the ladies I needed help from were all helping other people. I'm not always greeted when I enter the store, but everyone is always very friendly when I interact with them. They are also incredibly tolerant of my six-year-old son, who has a tendency to rearrange the shelves when I'm trying to decide on polish colours. I look forward to future visits. read more

I've had nothing but absolute horrible customer service experience at this location. First of all, let me start by saying that I go to a different location quite often and when I was in the Sunridge area, I decided to stop by just to buy something. I came just before they closed, and right when I came in, you can see all the employees eyes looking at me and rolling their eyes. One of them came up to me and said that they're closing any minute now. Another worker came up to me and said "just so you know, we close at 6," which was in about a minute. I quickly looked at what I originally wanted to buy and I heard someone asking the workers a question, and they all looked at this person like she was a complete unwelcome visitor and said "you're welcome to come back another time to look at the items." I thought that was absolutely the worst customer service I've experienced. I've worked for customer service (all different types) for more than a decade and I've never told anyone that "we close in about a minute" unless they ask, which rarely happens. Also, if you want people's business, I think that you should be willing to help them even if you're due to clock out of your shift. I HIGHLY DON'T RECOMMEND THIS LOCATION. If you wanna go to Sally's, go to a different location, you'll probably get treated better elsewhere than this hellhole. read more

I went to this store first time and was quiet excited to get salon products at reasonable rates . store has a big variety of hair products. I wish store owners can hire some more professional girls who can give right advise to customers as per their requirements and are more friendly. I really liked one of the part time girl 's customer service skills . other than that I really like their products and discounts. read more

I love the fact that I can get all the supplies I need with some great prices and lots of options. As a regular customer I can say this store has some staff lacking serious skills and knowledge, who treat the customers awfully that is if you even get acknowledged at all. I asked a member (Arillia?) for help and almost walked out at how horrible she is. I HIGHLY recommend the girl with the bright red hair. She rescued me, answered all my questions and made some great suggestions. Asked about my previous history with color before helping me choose all the items needed to prevent any damage or upsetting results. She took her time to go through the hair straighteners and care products to use because I frequently use heat on my hair. You can tell she uses the products and can give an honest opinion as a result. The manager is a keeper, super friendly and was quick to resolve a price issue due to the discount not being programmed into the system. Overall Excellent place to get what you need and if you get the right staff its a great shopping experience. read more

after reading the awful reviews, i procrastinated about 2 months going to sally's n.e calgary store in calgary . finally on on august 3rd sunday at 4 p.m i went to the store with terrible reviews. i prepped myself a few minutes before i entered the store watching happy costumers living. when i first entered the store there were 2 ladies working at the cashier were busy, i try to find products i was looking for on my own, then i approached to the younger lady with my questions while she was still busy with the older lady ,. she was very helpful and delightful. after i found some of the stuff i wanted went back to the cashiers waiting for the younger lady, the other lady at the cashier showed a pleasant interest to help me, so she was also very helpful with a positive attitude. i was able to get everything i was looking for with her help. i was most delighted when i saw their very low prices, almost everything i bought was on sale plus i had a lovely bag for a gift. i also found out that i have 2 more sally's stores closer to where i live. after the very productive and the lovely experience i had at the n.e store, i will definitely will continue to go there for my shopping, and strongly recommend it to any one interested.. i felt the need to write this recommendation after reading the terrible ones and having a great experience at the s.e calgary sally's store, i hope the readers find it helpful! read more

I give this store a 4 but my intentions were to write a bad review for the 130th Avenue location. I stopped in a few days ago to purchase a product that I had seen on online Sally, a lady came and stood beside me staring but not saying anything and finally asked if I needed help, I asked my question and she grabbed something off the shelf, handed it to me and went on to the next person. After looking at the product it was safe to say that she had not listened to what I told her I wanted and she assumed it was something else. I proceeded to wait and then ask if this was actually what I asked for and it wasn't but to make a long story short, this lady was the manager of the store, while I had been shopping I heard her speak to somebody in a really unacceptable manner, she obviously had no clue what she was doing and giving out poor advice to people and recommending products without listening. She was rude, condescending and even though I live maybe 10 minutes away from the 130th store I will travel to the Sunridge Way location anytime to enable never setting eyes on this disgustingly rude, fried haired character ever again. read more
