Okay, when I first moved to Calgary I knew I needed three things, Wi-Fi internet, good coffee and a good hairstylist. It was recommended I go to Chatters Salon at the Market Mall but specifically to the owner there. When I arrived the only appointment they could schedule me in was with another stylist but I thought what the heck, my friend's hair seemed fierce, I trust the owner hired competent stylists, so I took it. While I waited I needed some sort of guidance, no problem; picture books. Salons always had the latest styles in magazines in their shop. Well guess what? Not a magazine about hair in sight. There was the latest who is sleeping with who garbage but nothing else that spoke of hair or even fashion for that matter. I then started to be aware of the hair stylists working at the salon and I started to get scared, there was not one modern hairstyle in the whole sea of stylists there, and not a shred of fashion sense. They say the best marketing you can do is show off the product on yourself, I thought if the staff here have no taste, would that translate into their work? Finally seated, my hairstylist took a spray bottle and wet my hair, hey where was the shampooing and the fine smelling Aussie conditioner? Where was the complimentary coffee and head massage for that matter? What I got was spray, spray, spray and then cut, cut, cut. It was the worse haircut I have ever gotten in my life, it basically was a shortening of the hairstyle I originally had except minus an inch. There was no layering, no pinning up, no shearing, nothing. In fact, to top it all that disappointment off, was this ludichrist price tag at the end for what I had just received. I mean it felt like a very expensive Magic Cuts. So sorry Chatters, I don't know how you are still managing a cliental, perhaps the convenience of being at a mall. I honestly don't get it. read more

In my search for a hair stylist my first stop was at Chatters, as it was recommended to me from a friend. I wanted a drastic change! At the time I had, I don't want to say breast length....but it was breast length and very dark brown. From here I wanted to get a shoulder length angled cut and I wanted to be a redhead! I explained this to the stylist and we began. My first trip there was around $280 for dye/cut/shampoo&conditioner. I didn't mind the length but I had major hot roots! My roots were bright while the rest of my hair color was meh. She said the next time I went it it would even out more. My second trip cost about the same, we are now up to $560 which I was willing to fork out if I was getting the hair I wanted. When I left the hair salon for the second time I was so upset! I had nasty bright roots and dark dark ends. I was so upset I paid and left right away! The next day I came back to express my disappointment and the manager told me they could dye it darker to fix it, which upset me because after $560 I'm back to having dark brown hair. My second option was to have it stripped which she said would take several hours and be very damaging, again not something I wanted to do! I'll NEVER go back here again and I make sure to tell everyone else to stay away from this place they don't know what they are doing! I've had better $7 box dye jobs! read more

My hair was cut here exclusively for the past 4yrs, but not anymore. Besides the three price increases in the past 2 1/2 yrs, they have recently added a compulsory 6% "environmental fee" to the price of a haircut. No mention, sign or explanation, just a added charge. Didn't know how my handful of natural hair that's cut every 6 weeks is environmental waste, so I phoned them to ask about it and it was explained to me that a bunch of convicts in B.C. was now weaving the accumulated hair clippings into a oilspill cleanup product. How cleaver, but why exactly am I forced to participate and moreover, pay for such a hair-brained scheme that some nut-job in Chatters HO thought up? I already minimize my enviro footprint wherever sensibilities apply, so save me the do-gooder for the planet BS, Chatters. I now go to a Barber shop in another Mall, where my haircut is 40% cheaper, 40% better cut and with non of this added fees BS. Shop elsewhere! read more

I bring my noisy, loud kids there and I always get great treatment. First of all, if we don't have an appointment the ladies at the reception always try to find a spot so we don't have to wait for long. Then, we never had a bad cut. Sometimes it is good, sometimes it is excellent. The prices for kids' cuts are very attractive. I paid way more at a different location so I stopped going there and decided that driving for extra 20 minutes would be worth it. Sometimes I get lazy and go to the old place and ALWAYS think afterwards, why, oh why I did not drive to the Market Mall? The kids are treated with respect and they love the place. Lolly pop in the end makes it even better. Will come again and again. read more

Worst haircut I've ever got. How can someone mess up a mohawk style haircut for men? And by "mess up", I mean one side is not even with the other. A patch of uncut hair left on top of left sideburns. The edges are messy. It was so bad I ended up shaving my head. Never going back. I wasted $30. read more

My review is in regards to a particular stylists at Chatters Market Mall in Calgary... her name is Nicole and she is excellent at her job. As someone who went to a high end salon for over 10 years, I can honestly say I won't look back and have no regrets for making the switch. I was extremely nervous to try Chatters and very grateful that I was paired with Nicole on my first appointment over a year ago. My colour is better than its ever been. She truly understands how low maintenance I need both my cut and grow out to be. But what truly sets her apart is customer service. I recently went through spinal surgery and Nicole always goes out of her way to make me comfortable. She is a fantastic conversationalist, stays late whenever needed and truly just goes above and beyond. I've already recommended her to 3 new clients, and we would all follow her anywhere. read more

I made an appointment for my daughter and was fit in with very short notice. The stylist seemed pleasant and the haircut was ok. Was thinking of booking an appointment for myself, but after reading the reviews for Market Mall Chatters, I've decided to go elsewhere. Thanks for the heads up. read more

We went here today for haircuts. My kids had been before, I had not. The staff greeting us were friendly, and we got in to see our stylists almost immediately. They were super nice to my kids. I was wary at first, because I've had some pretty bad haircuts in Calgary. Sam was my stylist today. We had a talk about what I wanted, and then he gave me the most perfect haircut I have had in 20 years. My kids also looked wonderful. I reccomend this salon 100%. read more

I am writing to show my thanks and appreciation for the Market Mall Chatters. I went in to get a haircut and highlight a couple days ago. I loved the cut, but the colour was not close to what I wanted. I went in yesterday to see if they could fix it and they were able to get me in this morning to see Chloe. I LOVE the way she coloured my hair. I've already had several compliments. Chatters wanted to make sure I was happy with my hair and they were able to fit me in quickly. Great customer service. I always feel welcome here. While some stylists I have had are not the best, my regular stylist is awesome. She remembered me after 1 appointment. Feeling important and being remembered is a sign of good customer service. Chatters in general is OK... but my stylist is an A+! read more

Went in last minute and asked for a consult on a perm. Luckily I was able to get in a couple hours later for the consult. After meeting with my stylist and showing her pictures of what I wanted, a perm for larger curls, she said yes we could do that and even fit me in later that day. When I went back for my hair appointment, my stylist was great and talked me through the process but I noticed the rollers for my perm were not very big. Not knowing much about hair styling I decided not to say anything because this was a licensed hair stylist and must have known what she was doing to be hired at a hair salon; that one was my mistake. When my perm was done, it was nothing like I asked it to be. My curls were more like waves and very small. I wish I had been told before that a perm would require quite a bit of up-keep, from new shampoo to having to use a diffuser. I had mentioned to the stylist in the consult I wanted this perm for ease of not having to do my hair so often for school and work as I used heat styling on it everyday in the past. My naturally wavy hair has now been permed wavy and gets quite frizzy. The exact opposite to what I wanted and what I showed the stylist I wanted. Sad enough I did not say anything to my stylist, tipper her well and bought shampoo, conditioner and styling products to now put more time into doing my hair than I would have it I have left it natural. Wish I had been told ahead of time of the upkeep and if the style I wanted was actually achievable, not just going with the typical perm rollers. Now how long do i have to wait until I can get my hair re-done because this perm is not working for me? read more
