People sitting in lawn chairs reading their books while soaking up the sun. It couldn't get more magical and relaxing than this. I came here to enjoy dinner at the little seafood joint located in the park. I couldn't have asked for a better setting for my last meal on my vacation. The breeze from the harbor. The sun beaming through the fluffy clouds. I was almost too good to be true to be in such a perfect setting. But I was here, living in that moment. I couldn't have asked for a better park to eat my meal at. Everything I took in will forever be etched in my brain. A memory and feeling I will never forget.

The playground area is wonderful especially since it has been updated/renovated. It's mostly in the shade which is a huge added bonus on very sunny days. There is a great half mile loop you can walk/run. This park is very reminiscent of Beverly's Lynch Park. The only cons are all the dogs off leashes. Salem does have a leash law but it never seems to be enforced. It's a bit disconcerting to have a huge dog tear through the kids play area. In the summer Salem residents can use the community pool too. You do have to pay to park from Memorial Day to Labor Day but the parking permit is fairly inexpensive & you can get it at city hall.

When David Lynch died he left his 400,000 as bequest to the city of Salem. They transformed it into a park in the 1940s. In 1966 vandals destroyed the rose garden and burned down the monastery.
