The littlest one had a bit of trouble getting around as all the surfaces of the actual playground are steps and a little tall, but the two year olds had a blast! This is a wooden "castle style" playground similar to Action Cove in West Newbury or Field of Dreams in Salem NH, but this one is by far my favorite. The entire park is enclosed with a fence which is especially helpful because the castle part is kind of like a maze. It's very clean (though I didn't see a trash barrel which would be helpful.) And best of all they have painted things really cool. One section has a big wavy slide set as a dragons tongue and the head of the dragon is a huge mural painted on the outer wall. They also have a farm section with a play tractor and a sandbox connected to a silo that allows kids access to the sandbox. There are about a half dozen slides and swings, and a nice section to sit and have a snack. The only pitfall is that this park is not handicap accessible at all. They have a ramp at the main entrance and tables you could put a wheel chair up to, but the rest of the park would be impossible to navigate and the area near the tables wouldn't be accessible to a wheel chair either.

Nice big park with swings for the babies and the big kids, as well as two jungle gyms for different age groups. There are fields for baseball, soccer, and a mini football field, as well as a nice long walking track around them. I really like that everything is open for visibility's sake, so I don't have to work hard to keep an eye on my kids, even from all the way across the park. It makes it somewhat hot without any shade, but it's not too bad since everyone is getting soaked on the splash pad anyhow. My only complaint is that it's pretty crowded here for much of the summer, so you have to keep a close eye on the little ones so they don't get run over by the bigger kids.

The play area is much safer than it used to be, and older kids have the baseball and football/soccer field that are seldom used during the daytime. A very nice park tucked away in a Chelmsford neighborhood…read more There are 2 tennis courts, a baseball field, and a large lake with a small sandy beach and a kids play area designed like a huge colonial fort. Also basketball court (double rims, unfortunately) and a Coke machine by the court. Parking is wherever you can find a spot on the road, or if you go up by the tennis courts there is a small dirt area. Watch out for kids playing in the street as you're driving. Heavily populated, but we had no trouble using the courts. No lights, either, so make sure you go during the day. Overall a nice, private place to play tennis or bring your kids to a cool play area while you lounge on the little beach and look for crabs or skip stones. Rowboats and flotation devices allowed in lake, not sure about motorboats (doubtful).

Parking is by a self-pay meter and is $5, entry to park itself is free. My boyfriend and I came here on a whim one crisp Saturday morning in September. We brought our mountain bikes and spent about two hours leisurely exploring the trails, which are paved only half of the time, but still well-maintained. There are many lush sights to see, both with colored/green trees and the Ipswich river (along the path) was a pretty sight as well, with turtles/ducks swimming nearby. We saw only a few people while on the trails, mainly people on bikes, but we did see some walkers as well. If you decide to walk, I would definitely suggest grabbing a trail map at the beginning of the trail, as there are many different routes along the way and it can get confusing without one. There is a giant treeless field at the center of the park which made for a great landscape for my boyfriend and me to take pictures using our tripod/camera. Overall, I would highly recommend this park for all ages/types of people!

While parking is $5 for Mass residents, I've always been more than happy to pay the $10 fee for out of state visitors, but this year we were surprised to see that rate increase to $20 for out of state plates. I suspect that means that they have enough residents visiting and want to discourage those from out of state. For this reason, I'm only awarding 3 stars. The "Theater in the Open" event is lots of fun, a "spooky trail" geared toward children, but adults will enjoy it as well. Additional fee is $10 per person. If you want to visit, I suggest hitching a ride with an in state Mass resident to enjoy this hidden gem of a park in Newburyport.
