Soooooo nice and peaceful. Plenty of free parking. I love this place. It's far, but worth it!

Beautiful view. A lottt of people had to park on the side street before the gate. Definitely recommend going here to check out the view

A little park Chandler Hovey Park is a small park with less than 4 total acres. It is located on the northern most tip of Marblehead Neck and has a small, rather rocky beach for swimming and some picnic tables and a few benches. it's a popular diving spot and also seems to have a lot of weddings and celebrations. The views are beautiful, especially in the winter. However the main attraction of the park is that it is the home of Marblehead Lighthouse. The light was built in 1896 and several smaller lights once stood on the same location. The present one is over 100 feet tall and is a unique skeleton construction. No tours of the tower or museums or gift shops. Just the lighthouse itself. People have very divided opinions about the aesthetic of this particular light. Realistically it is not as beautiful as many other New England lights but it is certain unique and cannot be mistaken for any other.

Really beautiful sight, can't say I care for the amount of people who let their dogs and kids run wild though. Dogs should be on a leash, and screaming kids kind of ruined the relaxing atmosphere. Despite that, the scenery is just beautiful, and there's a public bathroom which is nice.

A great place with many benches, and great views of Marblehead Harbor. Next time will bring books to read, food and drink to enjoy!

It's a wonderful place to go just to "soak it all in" and take some really beautiful photos. I honestly wanted to leave this place 5 stars so bad but the only thing was stopping be was the hike down to the beach area. There's no pathway and you have to climb over slippery rocks and be very careful even when wearing the right shoes. If you are physically able to go down there though, it's definitely worth it.

You'll see a very casual sign nestled between two houses (one is the castle-like private estate the park is named for). To be honest, I was more enthralled with the castle-like home, but alas, it's a private residence and very exclusive, so you can only see a tiny bit of it. It's hard for a coastal park to blow me away because I have some wonderful ones where I live. But, if you're trying to catch some water views while in Marblehead, you should stop by. I noticed a couple climbing down the rocks and foraging the shoreline, but I can't speak to if that is safe or recommended. There's free street parking and it would be a cool place to take a picnic. When we visited, it was totally quiet and private feeling.

It came under American control during the Revolution, was rebuilt in the early 1800's when a battery of big guns were added to defend the harbor from enemy attacks. It served an important defensive role in the War of 1812, transitioned into a town park in 1892, and even returned to military duty during the Spanish American War in 1898. Today, it's a public park and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975. The park offers you stunning views of the harbor and the hundreds of boats crossing the waters. The Fort Sewall grounds are loaded with historical sights - maps and markers and plaques and remnants of the old fort including underground prison cells are everywhere. Some of those big guns that defended the harbor from enemy attack are still there, others are gone but there are ghostly markers on the stone walkway showing where they once proudly stood. It's a glorious place to walk around, enjoy the scenery and imagine those big guns blasting away to defend the harbor two centuries ago.
