First, you have to turn onto a private street lined with ridiculously beautiful mansions that you will never be able to afford in your lifetime and possibly your children's, staffed by a security guard (tell him you're here to see the lighthouse). After you drive past the private beach and the yacht club, all bedecked with No Trespassing and Private Entry Only signs to make you feel as unwelcome and plebian as possible by the 1% of Gloucester, you'll see the parking turn-off for the lighthouse. There, we met a very kind lady from Mass Audubon who explained the various migrational birds roaming around the area. You can't actually see or tour the lighthouse because it's fenced around and, from a distance, looks a little worse for wear. But looping around the side across some rocks, you can hop onto the jetty and stroll around and take in the sights. Great spot for photographers. It was beating down with zero shade and we forgot to put on sunscreen before heading out so we did a quick out-and-back but otherwise, it'd be a neat area to sit. $10 fee per vehicle (cash or QR code). No fee if you walk in. Definitely wear close-toed shoes; sandals or flip-flops on slippery rocks are a recipe for disaster. Also, watch out for poison ivy along the path to the jetty.

To get to the Eastern Point Lighthouse, you have to turn down a road marked as private. (Apparently it isn't, really?) Then, you pass some other unwelcoming signs. Then you finally get to a small gravel parking lot with a sign that says "All are welcome!" The lighthouse isn't operational or open for tours. It's surrounded by fencing that makes it look condemned. But, if you walk through some sand and rocks along the water and then do a small bit of rock climbing, you can get a good view of an iconic lighthouse. When I visited, it was freezing rain and very windy. When I climbed up on the rocks to take a picture, the winds up there were so strong I was worried they'd blow my phone out of my hand. Combined with the sense that I was almost trespassing, it was oddly thrilling. There's not enough going on to warrant a long trip, but if you're in the area, want a fun diversion, and are fine driving down narrow, possibly private roads to a small gravel parking lot before navigating sandy, rocky, seaweedy tidewaters to see something iconic, it's a worthwhile diversion.

Lots of parking when we came on a beautiful, not too hot Saturday afternoon. I really didn't see much of a beach area but loved the rocks feeding out into the water. With small kids, the rocks may be a little challenging but they're pretty flat and easy to walk on otherwise.

I enjoyed visiting the USS Constitution which is free to tour and had a great experience. There's also the USS Constitution Museum close by, another interesting spot to check out for history buffs and not only. You can take the ferry back to downtown Boston and that is a nice to ride, a great way to see cool views of the city. Nice landmarks, cool new sculptures, a more unique part of town!

Come here & you can see America's First National Flag - The Grand Union Flag, flying in the wind on top of Prospect Hill Monument. You may have to use your camera to Zoom in to really see it. The Monument is a 4 Story Castle Like Structure built in 1903 with great views of multiple cities including Boston. Cambridge & Somerville. There is also a little park here too. THE HISTORY In the 1700's the British flag reigned supreme. Then came our battle to become an independent nation. During the Revolutionary War, the colonies had their own individual flags like Massachusetts, & New York etc. General George Washington who would later become the first president of the United States commissioned a flag to be made to bolster the morale of the troops. The Grand Union Flag was created & featured 13 red & white stripes. There were 7 red & 6 alternating white stripes representing the 13 colonies who were all united together in this battle. Now in the upper hand corner was the British Union Jack. So this unification flag shows for the first time the colonies were uniting together & putting themselves first. They were separating themselves from British rule & fighting for their independence from Britain. George Washington himself hoisted the Grand Union Flag here on Prospect Hill on January 1, 1776 to give a big morale boost to his newly formed Continental Army. The 13 colonies represented on the flag are Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina & Georgia. This flag is before & predates the famous Betsy Ross Flag. Now this spot is located in Somerville, Massachusetts which is just outside of Boston. This is a residential area with homes. BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU PARK OTHERWISE YOU MAY GET A TICKET. Park only at the signs where it says it's OK to Park; You can also visit here by Mass Transit too. Be sure to go all around the tower on the ground level. There are plaques with lots of detailed info all around the tower. Also check out all the signs throughout the Park telling you even more info about this spot. It is a historic site & provides panoramic views of Boston & surrounding cities. Go up the stairs to the first landing & see the views.. Pre Pandemic the inside & the top of the monument were open at certain times. Check the website for the latest info & further details. There is also a small park in this neighborhood here with green grass, park benches & a good spot for picnicking & relaxing. It's great place to visit Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall with a changing natural New England landscape. See my review of the Prospect Hill Monument for more details. This site is only a few blocks away & up the hill from the bustling heart of Union Square. There are a lot of local businesses & eateries there. To make it worth your trip be sure to visit the extremely popular Union Square Donuts which has Great Donuts & is only a few blocks away. It used to be, you had to have Mega Bucks & be really Rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. The Game has changed. You've been Upgraded. Now You Can Live Like a King on a Limited Budget!

George Washington is probably the figure with the most statues and this is one of the most impressive ones. In the garden it's the most prominent feature and is a popular site to check out for tourists. Check out the rest of the surroundings while here because they're nice. The statue is only one of many you can see. It pretty much is closest to the western entrance of Boston Public Garden. It has a humongous pedestal and can be kind of intimidating. The statue is in very good shape. Clean and there's no trash around. The statue also is a popular gathering site. Lots of demonstrations take place around here. This is also just cool to hang out at and take a few pictures. Behind it is the famous footbridge. The statue also is in front of the Boston skyline. Quite a few people get a selfie in front of it. The statue can get quite a crowd especially when it's nice out. Cool statue to come and look at. It's also important to check out the rest of the garden. There's lots of other important people who have statues.

This church played an important role in American history with the famous story of Paul revere. Our tour guide gave a really spirited retelling of the story! A few notes for visitors: the steeple tour involves climbing two flights of very steep and rickety stairs. Those with knee or mobility issues should avoid. The crypt tour is not gross out or problematic for squeamish folks but if you don't enjoy the thought of being among skeletons then maybe avoid. The bell tower and church in general is also not really air conditioned so it can get hot in there on a hot day. Overall this was a really fun and educational thing to do on the Fourth of July!
