It was good to see some small upgrades around the land, starting with a revamp of the parking area and more identifiable main signage to lead you into the park. The Trustees of Reservations segment of the land is now also more clearly delineated, though there is no additional admission charge or anything like that. The trails themselves maintain a timeless and spirited quality that encourages exploration and staying in the moment. The views are certainly something to behold, which I appreciate more now as an adult and needing to make the effort if/when I want to return to these surroundings.

Next year I'll need to enter him in a contest for sure. To be honest, I thought we'd be there 10 minutes tops as it was a hot day, and Newman gets overheated easily. Plus with tons of other dogs there, he would work himself into a frenzy. However, there were countless water bowls and sprinklers for the dogs to stay cool and we ended up being there over an hour with no trouble at all! The dog owners were all very pleasant, and we didn't run across any 'unruly' animals anywhere. I will definitely be making this an annual event.

This is one of my favorite places in Gloucester. I've been coming here since I was a kid; back…read morethen, we only walked the main trail and didn't do very much hiking. When I rediscovered it, I was surprised how many little trails there are! If you're directionally challenged, like me, you'll probably want to pick up a map before you start walking. The parking lot is pretty small and fills up quickly. Even when it's full, though, I rarely run into other people walking the trails. I love coming here to just pretend I'm in the middle of nowhere, away from all traces of human life... this is the one place I'm happy to be alone, with no music, no kind of stimulation besides the woods. Is there anything better than listening to leaves/branches crunch under your feet, the wind through the trees, the faint sounds of squirrels running on the ground? I think not. Best of all, the trails are easy enough for most people. There are many short trails that connect to longer ones, so if you find it too easy, you can just keep going. I tend to walk longer than I should and end up sore the next day-- but it's always worth it.

Love that you can spend just an hour or a whole day, since there are so many trails. Not a ton of hills or anything, but the occasionally slight ascent / descent. Followed the yellow and blue trails last time (can't remember the names) and there were a few very unavoidable muddy patches, so make sure you have some footwear you don't mind getting dirty. If you plug it into google maps you may get routed to some awkward non-entrance (we had this problem). Make sure you check Yelp or the Maps app (on iPhone) for the actual entrance. As others mentioned, small parking lot with plenty of street parking. Can't wait to go back!

It opened up in the summer of 2018 and is definitely CLEAN. It has a fake grass area about 75 feet long and the park itself easily stretches 200 feet long, which is mainly gravel. There are actually barrels here to throw away your poo and there is running water both in the big dog park along with the smaller dog area. Some people will leave behind balls but definitely bring a toy if your dog tends to play well with others when they have them. Oh and you also don't need to bring your own doggie bags if you don't want to since they are provided. I'm not sure what more you could ask for. Almost everything you would ever need is provided for you and it has ample parking. It was the perfect addition to Burlington, bring your pupper down for a little play time!

It's different than what my dog is used to (gravel, concrete, & sand instead of grass/dirt) but she definitely didn't mind. It has two sides (small dogs under 25 lbs and all dogs). Unfortunately most of the dogs were on the small dog side, but my dog still enjoyed racing the small dogs from the other side of the fence. The only downside is that there is very little shade, but that's a common issue at dog parks. We plan on returning before our Cape vacation ends!

Leashes are required during certain times of the year, especially when birds are nesting, but it wasn't required when we went and the dogs had a blast running through the huge field and playing. I observed so many birds - including a hawk that flew directly overhead, wow! It was cool when I went so not too busy but I can see it being quite popular on less windy, warmer days. You have to be aware that there is some private property as there are actual homes scattered around the edges of the public area. Parking is free and the lot was pretty big. Gorgeous spot to walk around - we spent over an hour easily.

Oh, and... this place is STUNNINGLY beautiful. Absolutely breathtaking. Now on to more good news: it's free of charge and open 7 days a week. Ample parking at the trail head, and a totally decent compost toilet is in the main barn (unlocked on weekends till 4 pm). The Cox reservation was once the home of a mural artist, and is today the headquarters of the Greenbelt Association, a chain of parks on the north shore. To this day the reservation has kept its artsy flair. Painters flock there to capture the stunning views of the Essex River and the golden marshes.
