Not to be confused with Devo-Row Beach, which is where they whip it. Whip it good. Into shape. While rowing across the water, no less. A beautiful large and windswept beach in the North Eastern suburbs of Boss-town up on the North Shore that is gorgeous and much less touristy and much more unspoiled than the more famous and curvaceous Revere Beach. I love both but if I had to pick a favourite I'd pick Revere. I definitely love coming here though and it reminds me a lot of Newcastle in the northeast of England. read more

I got to the beach around 9:00am. Both of the parking lots were almost completely empty besides a few scattered cars. The beach is clean, quiet, and mostly family oriented. Not a lot of rocks. I would reccomend checking this beach out with the family at some point soon if you haven't been. A bonus is the local community isn't charging the typical $15-$20 they usually do until the end of June. Tip: -Everyone at the beach was social distancing and good about not setting up near each other, so there is no concern there -There is a small kitchen located right on the strip between the two beaches that offers light refreshments and the usual beach-type grub (burgers, etc.) -There are public bathrooms located right at the beach, as well as an area to wash off your feet -In a typical time (outside of Covid) the beach can get fairly busy and you may not find parking after 12pm read more

Devereaux Beach is now out of control with their increase in parking. What use to cost $5.00 through the week and $10. on the weekends, has increased every year to the now tune of $25.00 through the week and $30.00 on the weekend. The weekend begins on Friday, which is really not the weekend. They use to start charging after the 4th of July, and now they charge before Memorial Day. The beach no longer has lifeguards to protect the swimmers, so you swim at yourr own risk. The beach is poorly maintained with dirty bathrooms that often run out of toilet paper and soap. I'm not sure why they continue to go up every year. Many families are struggling and would like to take their children to the beach for the day, but the town of Marblehead has priced them out. read more

This beach is my standby for the hot summer months. Closer than Gloucester or horseneck, you can get there in 20ish minutes. There's a parking lot that charges on the weekends ($10 maybe?) but there are ways around it. The beach is not huge but there are lifeguards and bathrooms (that are remarkably clean) and the noted Lime Rickey's food stand which carries an inordinate amount of food for a beach. Seriously folks, we're talking steak tips, lobster rolls, hummus plate... the menu is huge! The water can get pretty choppy so you've got a good chance of adequate waves and though it's crowded on weekends, you can always find a spot to settle. Plus, you get to hear the chatter of Marblehead youth, which is a special thing all in itself. read more

This place is far more over-hyped than some of the other local beaches, and while nice, it's not my favorite. Why? Parking is expensive, particularly if you show up and it starts raining. It's $10 you'll never get back. Also, the beach is rocky versus sandy. It's not bad, but I prefer a softer, more cresent shaped beach. It's kind of small for a beach. The bathrooms are super icky, and the little spigot area doesn't work, so you can't really rinse off. I've had better beach experiences, though there are lots of great places to browse through and specialty shops to hit up if you're in Marblehead. read more

Came out to this beach on a visit to Boston and it was lovely! There was a spot that you could grab food and drinks, a playground for the kiddos, parking for a price (bring cash!), and lifeguards on duty. The beach itself was relatively clean and not overly crowded. Along with bathrooms, there was an outdoor shower area to wash the sand off. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it! read more

This is a very nice beach in a very good location. It's not far north of the city with parking for $10. I think it's nicer than the bigger beaches in Winthrop, Revere and Lynn/Nahant. It takes me about 40 minutes to get there from Cambridge. It's a crescent beach with a good view of a few small rocky islands. The harbor of Marblehead is right behind it. The old part of Marblehead is pretty awesome, so I would highly recommend a visit to there as well if you have some extra time. The lobster roll at Lime Rickey's is terrible, but the fries and fried clams are pretty good, the ice cream and frozen yogurt is pretty great, and the lime rickeys and raspberry lime rickeys are awesome! There is also a cute little playground with swings and slides. read more

I wanted to get out of the city for a day for a beach jaunt, and as Marblehead is surprisingly and cheaply accessible via the T system (441/442 bus from Wonderland every half hour), I settled on Devereux Beach. It's a large beach and the water was surprisingly warm (compared to ice-cold Revere, where I'd dipped my toes an hour prior) to the point where I went for a legitimate swim on a not-sweltering day in June. There was, notably, a bit more seaweed/floating junk then I'd hoped for. Yes, the sand is not soft and fluffy, but it's not that bad! I would not call this beach "rocky" by any stretch. Buck up, wimps! All you need are your standard beach flip-flops to avoid melting your feet from the sand, and once you hit the water, you're pretty much good without them. Lots of locals at this beach-- or at least what it felt like to me. Families and couples dominated the scene. I'd love to get out here on a weekday and have a little more sand to myself! Overall: other N. Shore beaches are more beautiful, while Revere is bigger and closer to town. But I'd do Devereux again-- it's free, it's easy to get to, it's clean, it's pretty, and Marblehead itself is a fun day trip. read more

Not going to find white sands here, but is clean, plenty of room to throw out a blanket and enjoy the view, mostly families, people very friendly, nice playground for those with kids too! $5 for close, convenient parking and you can come and go if you need to. The walk up restaurant is reasonable with lots of yummy options. Clean bathrooms too! As an out-of-stater I would recommend checking this out and I will be back if I'm ever back in the area! read more

Let me say right away: this beach is rocky. By this I mean there are rocks where sand should be. Your feet will get pelted with them as you wade in. Other than that: great beach! Good bathrooms, excellent food shack (you can actually get fresh cut fruits and vegetables and gourmet-ish sandwiches as well as 20-some-odd flavors of ice cream!), superior playground, and it's all right there next to the parking lot. You don't have to walk a mile with your stuff like a lot of other beaches. It's definitely a hot spot for kids too. My little one gave it the thumbs up! read more

Devereaux Beach is a small seaside beach that gets more expensive to park every year. It use to be $5.00 through the week and then slid up to $10. Monday-Thursday and $15.00 Fri-Sun Now 1 year later it is $15. Monday-Thursday and $20. Fri-Sun. Other beaches that charge this price have so much more to offer-such as full showers, and better accommodations. This beach has coarse rocky sand and few places to put your towel. It is really a filler beach, when you don't want to drive too far to go to a really nice beach. Won't pay for parking anymore. read more

Visited this beach last weekend after the Nahant beach lot was 100% full at 945am. Parking is pricey $15, and the beach is more rocky than sandy. However, the waves are fun and there is a bathroom and snack concession on site as well as a covered picnic pavilion and playground. I wouldn't choose this beach over Nahant, but it is a good backup. read more

First not to be a dick but it is actually "Devereux Beach" just to be correct. Nice beach, a bit rocky. You can drive up close to the beach so you don't have to drag your beach gear a mile before settling. There are clean restrooms and a shower. It's a pretty view, doesn't get as crowded as Crane and also doesn't get those evil green heads. Nice beach but I don't recommend hitting up the snack spot aka lime Rickey's as it's overpriced and not so great. I have to agree with the woman who made the comment about a certain demographic hoarding the sitting areas and pavilions. We had an issue with people yelling and swearing, also blasting their music while blowing cigarette smoke everywhere. They aren't the majority here though, at least not yet. The parking charge of $10 on the weekends is more than reasonable I think Crane charges $25? I have a sticker there so I don't honestly know.. Show me a beach you pay $10 or less at locally? read more

This beach is absolutely beautiful. The water is extremely clear and blue for a New England beach and Marblehead itself is very scenic. The beach is relatively small, so I've never really seen it get too crowded and the traffic doesn't get too backed up. They do charge $10 for parking, but I have always had luck finding parking on nearby side streets on days when I just can't part with the money. The only downside is that the sand is not very soft, but if you walk further down the beach it seems to be a little bit softer. read more

Super clean and peaceful was a little crowded on this 4th of July of course but great for families with a small playground and clean restrooms. Also has covered picnic tables and benches that overlook the beach. The little food shack "Lime Ricky's" has really good food (recommend the Cajun chicken sandwich). For some reason there were a lot of Russians who annoyed me (not because they were foreigners), breaking my peace with their inability to maintain sane, conversational voice tones, loud talking and sneaking smokes on the beach. read more

This beach gets a 2 instead of a 1 because it has a playground. I don't get the hype! The sand is like a kitty litter box and it's narrow. Parking is limited, too. Unless you live near here, I wouldn't understand why you would make the trip. There are free beaches in Beverly that are better than this one! read more

I wouldn't make a special trip to go to this beach, but it has some nice qualities. PROS: decent amount of parking; easy access to parking, playground, snack bar, and bathrooms from the beach all of which is very helpful if you have little kids; gentle surf (at least the day we were there) that is good for younger kids; large area with picnic tables and benches that has a roof structure that provides shade; nice playground; large menu at snack bar that includes salads; friendly parking attendant (at least on this one day); very family oriented environment, no overly loud or creepy people. CONS: not a lot of soft sand on beach--lots of large pebbles and rocks (wear your Tevas or water shoes); gentle surf (at least that day, not good for boogie boarding); fairly strong undertow and relatively steep pitch on ocean floor (so little kids need to stay close to shore and not a good skimboarding beach; expensive snack bar; no shade on playground; expensive parking. read more

The $55 resident parking sticker for this beach is no longer worth it, particularly if you don't use the town dump. It use to be a local beach but now hoards of people from other towns come in vans (why wouldn't they for only $10 bucks per car as opposed to other beaches that charge $25 and up). They take up the pavillions from morning till late afternoon, playing loud music, cooking smokey barbeque and letting their kids run wild. The trash cans overflow, including dirty diapers etc. People place their beach chairs on the main pavillion so you can't use the benches or picnic tables. And the food at Lime Rickey's has gotten so expensive (so much for their promise to the town that their prices would remain reasonable after they literally put Flynnies out of business). If you are a town resident and don't get the $55 sticker they still charge you the day rate with no discount. If you complain to the staff they totally agree with you about how bad the beach has become, but they say they can't do anything as it is a public beach. I would rather pay for the sticker at Preston any day. read more

really nice beach, reasonably priced $10, same as nahant without the crowd. very short walk from the parking lot, walk over the rocks could be difficult for older people in which case you have to go around to the path. there are alot of rocks so maybe water shoes might be a good idea, but once your up to your knees its just sand and very clean. an easy drive. good sized beach with a nice playground for kids. the restaurant looked good, i didn't try it. the bathroom was clean but only 2 stalls for such a large beach? The sand is a bummer -its not sand - its crushed rocks. My daughter got the sand in her hair and i couldn't get it out, it inbedded itself into her scalp. Its good digging sand but can't make castles. Also -there are toe stubbing rocks all along the coast -right where the waves break- so be sure to wear water socks or you're feet will ache. Otherwise the water is clear and warm-ish. Low tide doesn't turn into a long hike to the beach. There's also a decent bathroom close by as well as a picnic area right behind the beach so you can get out of the hot sun for lunch. The playground is close by. All in all, everything you need is in close promixity. read more

Sorry, I don't know what ANY of you are talking about this beach SUCKS. Besides the fact that you might as well just go mountain climbing with all the rocks, the food is wayyy expensive. I went to marblehead high when there used to be Flynnies there and the prices were better, even the beach was nicer but, again, the ROCKS whyyyy?? I far prefer the south shore beaches, personally. But, my friend did a ton of research and found that our preferred south shore beach had a volleyball tourney. We're in Boston, and we really only wanted to drive an hour, tops. With this, we decided to venture north. My friend had read good things about Devereaux Beach, so we were excited to give it a try! This was a mistake. MISTAKE. I like my beaches, quiet, not overly populated, lots of beach, the sounds of waves, not people, and as few flying rats (gulls) as possible. Devereaux was none of those things. The sand was very pebble-y, at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon the place was packed, and there was very very little actual beach (length, not related to tides). The people were all very friendly so that was fine. But still. I was hoping for just a tad more solitude. The biggest problem were the gulls. The minute we sat down they were circling us. Like something out of a horror movie. It got worse though. The minute my friend took out her sandwich, and put it up to her lips, no less the 20 gulls swooped down and fought to grab it out of her hand! In the process they nipped her fingers, and the wings hit her in the head. Then, they flew off, just a few feet away, and viciously fought over the bread and meat. It was very scary. Afterwards, we looked around and no one else had any food out. One guy checked his backpack and noticed that while he and his wife were in the water, the gulls had pecked away at his backpack, ripped it, and eaten his rolls. We left after an hour. Not a fun excursion. read more
