Went out of their Marblehead location this afternoon and had a great time! We rented 6 boards for an hour and road to Crocker Park and back. There were a few people working and helped us with paddles and life jackets, and gave us a quick tutorial. $20/board adds up quick when you're with a larger group, but we had a great time! Let's face it, Massachusetts may be known for marriage equality, Dr. Seuss, Necco Wafers, and Moby Dick, but we're not known for our surfing. Get on a board without having to travel to Hawaii by visiting SUP East Coast Style at their customary hangout at Riverhead Beach in Marblehead, right across from Deveraux Beach. Free parking if you're a foreigner from Salem, as long as you mention that you're going out "SUP-ing" that day. You can also pick up a board at Waikiki Beach, again, no traveling to Hawaii involved, in Salem. Interlopers from Marblehead can park free at Waikiki (Winter Island) by mentioning that they're SUP-ing. See, SUP brings the world together. Now to what SUP actually is. It's stand up paddleboarding, and you really don't need experience or lessons to give it a try, although East Coast Style does offer lessons. For most people with a fair amount of coordination, you can get some pointers on the beach from one of the employees, hop on a board and you're off. Watch a couple of YouTube videos and you'll see how cool it looks. You can rent a board for an hour, half day, or even a full day. Prices are on the website, but I'd also highly recommend liking them on Facebook. They run frequent insider deals and they'll also post last minute changes in classes if the weather is not cooperating. You'd do very well to check in with them on Facebook--so much easier than the website. They offer fitness as well as yoga classes on the board, and it was yoga that really got me hooked. I have practiced and taught in a studio for years, and not really been a fan of beach yoga, but paddleboard yoga is a-MAH-zing. You really have to become one with the board, you see your postures in a whole new way, and get to experience that elusive "beginner's mind" that you sometimes hear in a yoga class while you're thinking of running errands at Target. On the board, your mind has to focus on the yoga, or whoops! you'll fall in the water. Which, mind you, is not always a bad thing! Everyone who likes yoga owes it to herself to try it on the board. It can be a very exhilarating, and also humbling experience to have your old favorite postures become quite challenging when you try them on the water. But trust me, you will love it. It's great to feel the motion of the water, smell the salty air, work with the rocking waves, and see beauty wherever you look. I took my niece paddle boarding for the first time with SUP East Coast Style and we had the greatest time. We did the Saturday evening LED tour and it was worth every penny. It was super fun, Christos and his boys were super professional and helpful, and I was happy to see the equipment was high quality and in great shape. We were very pleasantly surprised to join the gang for a beach bonfire and smores. I look forward to more time on the water with these guys. read more

Very unprofessional and mean/rude to customers. I would not recommend this place nor trust my safety on the water to them. My friend and I chose this place in particular to take lessons. When I called to inquire about when the lessons take place the girl I spoke to was very condescending. All I wanted to know is if and when they could do a lesson on this Sunday. She cut me off several times to tell me she "did not understand what I was not getting from their website". She kept cutting me off and never answered my question or even listened fully to what my question was. I finally told her she was rude and hung up. So THEN I start getting several texts from her! I won't include the photos of the website screen-caps she sent me like I am not smart enough to look myself. She starts off pretending to apologize. "My apologies if you feel we were rude, we have life proof cases on all our phones and sometimes people can't hear us so  however we were clearly explaining what we offer and you continued to ask for something we don't offer, We offer rentals and lessons all day every day which is posted on our social media page pretty much daily as "rentals and lessons" all day everyday text is best to book.... If you purchase ahead of time online you receive an email. That's all, we are not sure how much more we can offer or explain.... again we were not rude we were answering your question which you then continued simply not to understand so we were explaining it's not like a "class" or doctors appointment you book. Many things on the water are weather dependent. If we offer a class workshop then that would be on the website which sometimes we do offer however that is not currently an option. And we are 100 percent open to suggestions on how to navigate easier for the customer.... however one of the main reasons we have on the site ns most posts is text is best is for many reasons.... one of them simply Because of this life-proof case , not sure if you familiar with that case but it is very difficult to hear through. Regardless our apologies... you can put whatever you want on yelp that's up to you... We have very little bad reviews if any so few free if you want to spend the time and energy on that verse simply clarifying the miscommunication. WARNING!!!! YOU'RE CLASS MAY GET CANCELLED WITH ONLY TWO HOURS NOTICE!!!! AND NO REFUNDS!!! My girlfriend and I pre-registered for a Glowga class on 7/25 (SUP Yoga at night w/ glowsticks and candles under the stars) sounded amazing!!!! We were sooo excited!!! We had to book it a few weeks in advance because of our schedules and we live almost 2 hours away Holden, MA not including traffic! We took time off of work to leave early that Friday 8/11 and we knew we'd hit rush hour traffic as well going through Boston.We are having dinner at 5pm in Revere and at 5:20pm I receive and email SUBJECT LINE: TOAST(very unprofessional) from Leah who works/ runs SUP east coast style. She apologizes that she had to cancel class due to low enrollment, we were the only two who registered. I being a yoga instructor for 10 years know that this happens but WE HAVE NEVER BEEN SO INCONSIDERATE TO ONLY GIVE 2 HOURS NOTICE!!!! Any place I've ever been gives the usual 24 hours advance notice to allow for our clients to make alternate plans. I would have been satisfied with a morning or even 12pm cancellation due to low enrollment. It would have saved us leaving work early $, sitting in traffic for 2-3hrs and being so let down after looking forward to this for weeks! I asked nicely for a refund and was refused several times!!!! She exclaimed that its been in their policy for 7 years they give credit. I looked all over their website, my receipts and could only find a small area when you're making a purchase that they may cancel DUE TO WEATHER and will then issue a credit. It also states returns are CASE BY CASE less a $10 service fee!!!! So if we cancelled we can get most of our money back?!!! This makes no sense and no where did it say that they only give 2 hours notice when cancelling classes. After being told that we are not going back and forth via email and that I have been issued credits and that 2 hours was a sufficient amount of time to cancel. We were pretty upset at the lack of consideration and customer service needless to say! So why would we want to return to your business ever again? I also explained that our schedules do not allow us to take another class and we do live far away too! She also said to use our credit for SUP rental, well we could've saved ourselves a whole mess of time and money if we wanted to just rent. We live 15 minutes away from a lake that rents! We really wanted to try Glowga. I feel as though in our case a refund would be the right, fair and honorable thing to do. Why should your business get to keep our $50 after you cancelled on us for low enrollment which you knew the day prior, the morning of and even early afternoon???? Leah didn't care at all that we spent half our day getting ready for the class and ensuring we'd be there in time. So not only did we loose money from leaving work early, gas there and back and time on the road but now we can't even get our $50 back!!!!????? I'd never treat any customer this badly. Leah had also offered to send me a copy of their policies that I supposedly signed when I made the purchase but she just stopped responding to me after I had sent her a screen shot of what I mentioned I saw earlier on their website. We would have understood if cancelling 2 hours prior due to weather or an emergency not because of low enrollment. We pre-registered weeks in advance and they obviously knew! They could've have had the decency to give us more time and did not. A refund would also show that they as business owners cared about their customers but they refused! I AM NOT STOPPING UNTIL I GET A REFUND!
