Shoto's is one of the few choices available and it's located in the ALDI shopping center on Randolph Street. I placed my order for pickup over the phone, so I can't say how the dine in compares. I will say, I stood inside at the entrance for a good 10 to 12 minutes before anybody showed acknowledgment, which is quite frustrating to say the least. From what I could tell there was one waitress helping dine in customers and what little staff remained looked like they were trying to appear too busy running around to notice me. Again, not pleasing. I'd be totally fine with a "We will be right with you," or "please give us a few minutes," or even a "sorry for the wait," but I didn't get anything close. A lady finally came over with a few take-out bags in her hands and asked what I had ordered. Luckily, one of the bags was mine. I paid and immediately left. By the time I finally got home, my food was about room temperature. I heated it up no problem and had hot food again. The vegetables had a lot of extra soy sauce in its compartment of the to-go box, which made them a little soggy after sitting in it for a while. I also felt like they were a little skimpy on the vegetable portions, considering I ordered a hibachi vegetable plate. The majority of my plate was rice. Note that In the picture, there's tons more rice under the small portion of carrots, if it's hard to tell. Overall, I would say the food was basically average, but relatively salty. I think they just went a little overboard with the soy sauce. The restaurant didn't seem very busy, but maybe I caught them in a bad day? Sadly, when rating this particular visit, I guess I'd remove 1 star for the wait without acknowledgement or apology, and 1 star for the quality of the food. Since then, the half price sushi hours are no longer in effect, replaced with more standardized lunch specials and combinations. Three basic rolls for x, two specialty rolls for x, etc... as well as specials on hot food and the like. Due to this, I just haven't found myself there very often, and until my experience last week it had probably been two or three years honestly. We came during lunch hours on a Saturday. The lunch specials are good every day, not just weekdays, so that is a good thing. Ordering was simple enough, still done at the counter, given a number, go have a seat. Drinks still self-serve, no wait staff or the like which is totally fine. We ordered a general tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll, a basic two roll combination of sweet potato tempura and Ro Roll, and a two speciality roll combination that I honestly cannot remember the specific names of. There were also crab rangoons. My first area of dismay, even though we were eating there, everything came in to-go containers creating a ton of trash and waste. Plastic utensils, cups, everything. This was not the case in the past. I guess they've done the financial math that it's cheaper than dishwashing, but it's terrible for our environment. It would have been better if things even came combined on paper plates than this. As to the food, we were disappointed. Nothing other than the sushi and maybe soup appears to be made there, definitely true for all fried things. Rangoons came with plain duck sauce. Egg rolls the size of your index finger. Sushi wise, the sweet potato tempura roll was the best of the bunch. The fish tasted fine, nothing off putting there, but also nothing pleasant. The flavor combos just didn't make me want to eat more... and they were all crammed into to-go sushi trays with dry horseradish ("wasabi") It is not common for me to leave sushi pieces for the trash, but I did this time. Ultimately, the things that used to draw me here just didn't seem to be in place. But the price isn't bad at all. If you are more concerned with value, and don't mind some of the things I listed above, this place could work for you.

Online said the food was going to be ready in 15 minutes, but it wasn't ready at time of pick up. They needed maybe 10 more minutes to fill the order. Anyway, prices were pretty cheap compared to bigger cities and portion was more than one meal worth. I would order the chicken lo mein again.

They are a self service restaurant where you order and pay first and then seat yourself. The decor is what you think of in a take out restaurant, and it was a little on the dim side with lighting. We all were able to get what we wanted to eat. The oldest little wanted sushi, so they got a crab roll. The youngest little wanted noodles, so we split the chicken yakisoba. The littles tried to use chopsticks, but ultimately resorted to forks. This was a great first experience and we will definitely return again when in the area (or wanting sushi without going to Greensboro).
