    Beef and chicken teriyaki
    Brett M.

Let me set the scene. First time visitor to Chicago. In town for a conference and staying in Rosemont. Needed to pick up a few things for the room and wanted to look for a Cubs hat or shirt as my souvenir. Decided to walk over to these outlets as they had stores that appeared to have such things. While walking around, my East coast lunch alarm clock kicked in and before the hanger could take over, I moseyed over to the Food Court. Now, I know what you're thinking. Did you order deep dish pizza? A Chicago style dog? Are you an idiot....who goes to the food court for their first meal in Chicago (‍)? I couldn't decide what to get and so I trusted my brothers and sisters of Yelp and decided to grab some beef and chicken teriyaki at Sakura. The staff were friendly, quick, and food was out in 5 minutes and piping hot. The to-go container was LOADED with food. Both beef and chicken were sliced thin, cooked perfectly, and nicely seasoned. I tossed a little soy sauce in with the rice and mixed veggies and called it lunch. My Diet Pepsi was served in a styrofoam cup which was cool - don't see many places doing that these days. Overall - the best food court Japanese I've had the pleasure of trying and would totally go back if I found myself here again!

Sakura Japan is my family's go to meal at Fashion Outlets. It never fails (all the kids love it), and they can get a good portion of the teriyaki chicken, rice, and for some of the kids, veggies, for a great price. Portions are large. My kids always share. Adults get our own, and we are always very full and very satisfied. The special of the day was the teriyaki chicken, but as my son pointed out, it's always been the teriyaki chicken the times that we've come. So maybe this doesn't change (not sure). Works for us though since this is the only here we order here. I personally like the fried rice with my chicken and veggies, but it does cost an extra fifty cents to substitute the white rice for fried rice or veggies. My husband asks for extra sauce on here, so that's an option you can get for free. But I prefer it less saucy, which is the norm. They've perfected their teriyaki chicken, so I'd say give it a try. Unfortunately we were too hungry to remember to snap a picture of the food, but we'll be back, so I'll take one next time!

The teriyaki chicken and rice are highly recommended. The service is quick and the portions are generous.

But it just kind of slipped out of my consideration for no particular reason. But today I was driving near there, headed for somewhere else, and it hit me - Bento box sounds good today. And so it goes.. Parking in this small strip mall is usually pretty easy. It is a popular choice for lunch for many people that work in this business area of Elk Grove. I think that is because in addition to the good food, the service is not only friendly, but also very efficient. That allows you to have a nice sit-down lunch and still get back to work in time. They don't rush you, but you won't have to wait long for both the food and the check. Today I did have my delicious bento box, which as others have agreed, is a great deal for lunch. But I also splurged for a "Rock' n Rol" sushi roll, which was quite tasty. My waitress was wonderful - friendly and efficient as usual. But she didn't rush me personally. She even asked me if I wanted tea. In summary, it's an excellent choice for lunch. Good food, affordable, kind people, and a nice change from a fast food drive-thru.

If you're looking for the most authentic Japanese food outside the city, seems like this and a couple other places are all in the Schaumburg/Elk Grove Village area. Highly recommend hitting their lunch menu if you can because the bento box values are so worth it for authentic Japanese food/sushi. We got there at opening for dinner on a Saturday and got there just before dinner rush! This place is such a hidden authentic gem - you can tell from the decor to the choice of seating design to the actual menu and way they cook the RICE and other dishes. They serve the same grain for sushi as they do regular rice (Tamaki gold). Quality is not skipped here. We got the agedashi tofu (must get appetizer, as it's hard to really every achieve at home cooking), house special curry katsu, the beef kurumaya gozen (bento box) (which has incredible tempura, juicy soft beef), and assorted sashimi platter (I forget the name). All come highly recommended and were well worth the price point. I am just a bit sensitive about the freshness of the sushi, but I think this is probably as fresh as you can possibly get with generous cuts outside the city. Everything down to the miso soup too was delicious - best place to take your friends/family/coworkers for an authentic Japanese meal. Parking lot available out front. Recommend also stopping by Tensuke market nearby after!

Especially to save anybody else from what we had to endure. We came in for dinner after a long, exhausting day of running errands.... myself, my sister, and my 83-year-old mother. We were seated modestly quickly, which gave us hope. Unfortunately, that was the only thing that went right. Shortly after being seated, a man who appeared to be our server approached us not to take our order, but to tell us he was "too busy" to wait on us and that someone else would come. That set the tone immediately. When another server finally did come over, things didn't improve. It took OVER 15 minutes for Server to acknowledge us, And another 10 minutes just to take our order, while we watched multiple tables who were seated after us being served promptly and efficiently. At that point, we should have left. I eventually received an appetizer, but my mother and sister received nothing. As I sat there awkwardly picking at my food, we watched surrounding tables (who arrived after us), receive full meals before us. We flagged down our server, and only then were we casually informed that my mother's meal had been given to another table. No apology beforehand. No proactive communication. No attempt to correct it until we had to ask. Let that sink in: an elderly woman sat there (over a hour now), waiting, ignored, while her meal was served to someone else and no one thought to inform us. At that point, we got up and left. The front door staff were the only bright spots. They were polite and immediately got the manager. The manager assured my sister that the situation would be "handled," that we would be contacted, and that some form of recompense would be made for the experience. She was also so apologetic... But her apologies were as devoid is truth as her personality was devoid of any humanity. So her promises that she would reach out that we would be recompensed well...That never happened. No call. No follow-up. No accountability. As for the food? I can't fairly review it because we never actually received it. The small portion of appetizer I did get was nothing memorable, and the sake was honestly subpar. What I can review is the service, (if one can call it that,) and it was abysmal. Disorganized, inattentive, and completely lacking in basic professionalism and respect. Promises were made and not kept, which makes the experience even worse. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are too many places that actually value their customers' time, dignity, and experience. Save yourself the frustration and go elsewhere.

This is now my updated review as a purposefully came back for a dinner on a Friday night. You should try to make a reservation because on this particular Friday night they actually were full. And you can do it online through their website. The dinner menu is significantly different from the lunch menu. It is much more expensive with a lot more choices, especially as it pertains to the sushi and the cold as well as hot appetizers. You also have the option during dinner to order a sushi tray whether it is a Nigiri sashimi or maki tray. And if you sit there and do the math if you order the trays, they're a lot cheaper, but you have to like what the options are on the tray. You can tell by the pictures we ordered quite a bit of food as usual for dinner. Everything was so super fresh and delicious as usual. Everything came out with really good timing as well. We had a completely different waitress and a team of of servers this evening and all of them were absolutely friendly and helpful and attentive. This is got to be my new go to for authentic Japanese. You can also tell because while we were there the patrons coming in were Japanese in majority. I cannot say enough about this place being amazing with incredible quality fish, and a great menu.

After communicating this to staff, they passed it around and confirmed it was indeed spoiled and took it off our bill, which we appreciated. They can get busy and with not too many hands on deck, food and service can come out slowly. It's understandable to a degree, but it does feel like servers rarely come around (through the whole dining experience, our water was never refilled once or even asked to be) and overall service seems subpar at best. Ambiance is great. They definitely have that Japanese izakaya vibe. Go to Sankyu if you have time on your hands and order menu items that are likely ordered often and you will have a 4-5 star experience.
