    Lunch salad, Gyoza and miso

This is my favorite sushi place in Chicago. Went in for lunch with my sister after aggressive shopping experience. From the salad to dessert, everything was delicious. Massive portions, hope they never change. (Because I know a lot of places do this) Authentic flavors, honestly better than sushi from Japan I had past March. Dying to go back, but it's kind of far away from my house. Hope they stay open as long as I can visit. But yes. This place is my favorite place to get sushi.

I try to avoid giving bad reviews these days, but Chicago Sushi was just plain bad. The Shrimp Curry was ok. Reminded me of instant curry (which I eat at home regularly), and the shrimp was pretty decent. However, as a sushi place the only thing they need to get right is fresh fish. The Chirashi's fish was mushy and fishy smelling. Texture had no bounce, and it was just limp and way too soft. You could just pull it apart. It was definitely past when they should have been selling it. Such a shame, as the reviews are not generally bad for this spot. However, selling old fish is unforgivable at a sushi restaurant. Think about this next time you get one of those fancy rolls that have sauces and toppings which hide the smell and texture of the fish. Absolute miss.

Great food! Super fresh sushi and delicious. Kids meal has the best value. Service was nice too and you can order ramen from next door. The place is a bit small with a casual vibe. Will be back!

One of the best sashimi chirashi I ever had, which comes in a jewel box filled with eel, salmon, tuna, ikura. I ordered the "Take" which is $15 and is enough food for 1 person. You do get a nice hot bowl of miso which is very refreshing. I do recommend the variety of hand rolls which comes to you personally from chef. We ordered a few salmon and tuna rolls. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a treat and enjoy very fresh seafood. Parking is limited as it is shared lot.

First time I was here was six months ago, and I have returned on a random Saturday for a late lunch time. Luckily, there was no line. We were seated immediately and got to order and food comes out very quickly super fresh and super hot. I will say since the last visit the menu has definitely grown, which is incredible to see with a lot more choices. They have definitely stepped it up from the sushi, the bowls, and the Ramen, and noodle soups overall. Service is still super friendly and not rushing considering that they weren't busy and this is definitely the unpretentious spot for good comfort food at a fair price.

Honestly, one of my favorite/best chirashi meals I've ever ever had. I had Chirashi Jewelry Box - it was beautiful and tasty; what sold me was the generous servings of uni (sea urchin). My dining friend and I finished off our meal with mochi ice cream black sesame. If you've never had black sesame, it tastes like an earthy peanut butter. If I ever see black sesame on the menu, I am down for it!

Excited to try Chicago Sushi as it's same owners of Chicago Ramen. I love Chicago Ramen so I had high expectations but to be honest, it was ok. Having opened in 2022, but the decor is of 1990s. Service was excellent. There was nothing special about this place and am not sure if I'd go out of my way to visit. I'd rather go next door for ramen. Here's what we ordered: blue crab & Chicago bowl Matsu chirashi sushi with uni Japanese calamari few handrolls - eat within 3 seconds

I stopped in for a quick lunch on a Monday around 12:15pm for the first time. They were pretty slow during that time so I didn't have to wait. Food came out very quick after ordering. I absolutely loved the crunch on the Japanese calamari as well as the portion of scallop/salmon inside the bowl! Only con was the music choice :-( Have y'all ever watched a scary movie where there's a scene of someone driving down an empty road, in a convertible with their top down; there's old happy country music playing in the background BUT the person is about to get murdered???? That's what their music reminded me of LOL CHEF or Chicago Sushi employees- if you're seeing this, I can send my playlist over

I've been a big fan of Chicago sushi and they opened this place next door. I'm always debating between the two but the last year I've chosen to come here 90% of the time. This is a gem of a sushi place, and let me tell you, it's like no other. The hand rolls are a flavor explosion, and the chirashi jewelry box is a work of art on a plate. But what sets them apart is the freshness of their fish - the uni and scallops are always top-notch. This spot is a hidden treasure for sushi lovers, and each visit feels like a culinary adventure.

Finally made my way to Des Plaines. Really wanted to Chicago Ramen but the weather was way too warm for that so opt in for Chicago Sushi. Honestly didn't even know it was right next to each other. Tucked in a plaza so no need to worry about parking. We came during down time where it was past lunch and too early to call it dinner so it was fairly quiet and empty just how we like it when dining with a baby. They had a booster seat for her to use to plop on the seated bench. Really was craving hand rolls since my visit to Dallas and wasn't looking to break the wallet so really this is the bang for the buck when it comes to price point value. The spicy salmon hand roll was so good we ordered another one. Best consume once it hits the table! Also have been seeing the jewel box so that was a must for me and the scallops were huge! I'd skip the crab meat bowl with scallop, nothing too extraordinary about it. I wish they bought back the hand roll trio in stead of selling them just one by one.

Chicago Sushi is a casual restaurant that serves delicious Japanese cuisine. I discovered this restaurant because it is located next to Chicago Ramen, where I recently ate. I'm also curious if this is a sister company to Chicago Ramen. The setting is quiet possibly because I'm the only person in here other than the sushi chef and the waitress. I'm relieved to be able to eat peacefully after a long day at work. Their menu offers a broad selection of intriguing foods ranging from hand rolls, specialty rolls, rice dishes, and ramen. Unfortunately, my stomach is small, or I would have ordered the entire menu. While I waited for my meal, I seized the opportunity to browse the details of the area. It has many charming Japanese decorations around the interior spaces. I can't help but note that the main feature of the design is natural wood, which gives it an earthy vibe. As an appetizer, I got the fried oysters with drizzling tonkatsu sauce, which has a sweet and acidic aftertaste to balance out the savory of the oyster. It was served with a mildly rich and creamy egg salad on the side. My entree was the pork cutlets curry. The pork is thin and slightly dry. The breading appears to be unevenly coated. To season and color the white rice, dried seaweed was sprinkled on top. The curry gravy was the winner for me; it had a thick texture and an explosive curry taste. To conclude my dinner, I had the mochi ice cream. Originally, I wanted the green tea tiramisu, but they were out. I was disappointed because the mochi ice cream was presented in an ordinary way that I could easily acquire at a regular Asian grocery store. The service was quick. The meals arrived promptly and hot, and the service was decent but not overwhelming, allowing me to appreciate the dish. I'm pleased I stopped by because I would not have had the opportunity to try it otherwise. This will be my new favorite Japanese restaurant in the Des Plaines area.

If sushi and value are what you're looking for, this is the place to go. Priced similarly to what you'd pay for an all-you-can-eat in the area ($16-$30 per person) you can get a wide variety of different delicious options that are generously sized and provide something a bit more premium than what you'd get from a Japanese grocery store and larger portions than what you'd typically get at a standard Japanese restaurant. The service here was quick and friendly at weekend lunch time, with staff regularly checking up on us and the water refilled fairly regularly. The restaurant interior looks fairly nice, with a bit more of a modern feel and decorations that you'd expect to find in a sushi restaurant. The food was excellent given the price, which is what you'd probably expect to see at a grocery store eatery or fast food booth of an Asian grocery store. But the execution was consistently good throughout. The shrimp cutlet curry had nice and fluffy rice with a curry that was very similar in both flavor and consistency to what I've had in Asia. It just about the right amount of spicy with a good strong level of fragrant spices to it. This was paired with perfectly crunchy panko breaded shrimp. The Alaska roll was very flavorful, with a nice char to the surface of the fish to give it a smoky flavor of the fish that went nicely with the salty sesame dressing and rawness of the green onion. The lobster pasta had nice bouncy noodles with a nice thick sauce and a good number of small lobster chunks. My favorite though was the scallop chirashi (jewely box). This was filled with a very generous amount of fish throughout, with a nice sweet and melt-in-your-mouth scallop. The unagi was fairly good in there as well, though I wish it had some extra char for some contrast to the other elements. The fish inside wasn't the fattest cuts out there, but they were quite fresh and the amount of fish provided is more than you'll find in almost any poke bowl around. This was all tied together with a generous amount of fish roe. Overall, Chicago Sushi is a great value for delicious sushi and other Japanese eats. It's definitely a place any Japanese food fan should try as you can be very satisfied while staying within a reasonable dining budget.

This is now my updated review as a purposefully came back for a dinner on a Friday night. You should try to make a reservation because on this particular Friday night they actually were full. And you can do it online through their website. The dinner menu is significantly different from the lunch menu. It is much more expensive with a lot more choices, especially as it pertains to the sushi and the cold as well as hot appetizers. You also have the option during dinner to order a sushi tray whether it is a Nigiri sashimi or maki tray. And if you sit there and do the math if you order the trays, they're a lot cheaper, but you have to like what the options are on the tray. You can tell by the pictures we ordered quite a bit of food as usual for dinner. Everything was so super fresh and delicious as usual. Everything came out with really good timing as well. We had a completely different waitress and a team of of servers this evening and all of them were absolutely friendly and helpful and attentive. This is got to be my new go to for authentic Japanese. You can also tell because while we were there the patrons coming in were Japanese in majority. I cannot say enough about this place being amazing with incredible quality fish, and a great menu.

They added an enclosed outdoor seating area, Thats lets you enjoy the breeze or sun, but protects you from the rain. It used to be a tent, so this is definitely nicer. My wife and I were seated immediately. The server quickly brought us water and garlic bread. I really like that they give you 5 fairly big pieces of garlic bread for only two people. Nice touch. We were not in a hurry and couldn't decide what we wanted so we started with the calamari salad. $29, but it's huge and chock full of those calamari guys. Lettuce is always crisp and has everything I like in it (olives, eggs, carrots, artichoke, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, and romaine lettuce). We were almost full just from the salad alone. I ordered a grouper sandwich (not fried), and my lovely wife ordered the Scottish salmon plate, which comes with potatoes and grilled vegetables. My sandwich came with coleslaw and fresh cut fries. They switched to fresh cut since my last visit, and this was an upgrade. My sandwich was great, and huge too. Could not finish it. Wife's meal was a humongous slab of salmon. The veggies now come on a smaller plate, but that's okay, given the size of the fish. Service was a tad slow, but like I said, we weren't in any hurry. Total tab was $100, with tax and that pesky 3% service fee. I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. We walked into a fairly small space with counter seating and limited tables, which gives it a casual neighborhood ramen shop feel rather than a large restaurant atmosphere. Despite the size, the setup works well for the style of food, creating a warm and comfortable place to enjoy a bowl of ramen without feeling cramped. The ramen is the main highlight, especially the miso-based options. The red miso ramen stood out with a rich, creamy broth that had a good depth of flavor without feeling overly heavy. The noodles had a slightly thicker texture that held onto the broth well, making each bite more satisfying. We appreciated the ability to adjust the bowl with chili and garlic, which added another layer of customization for anyone who prefers more spice or stronger flavors. The balance of the miso and the richness of the broth made it one of the more memorable bowls we tried, and the toppings were generous without overwhelming the base. The tsukemen is another standout option and offers a different experience from the traditional ramen bowls. The dipping broth had a concentrated flavor that paired well with the noodles, and the style allows you to control how much broth you want with each bite. The noodles had a good chew, and the combination created a more interactive meal compared to a standard ramen bowl. We found the tsukemen to be a satisfying alternative, especially for anyone looking for something that feels a little more hands-on. The chicken ramen and beef curry ramen are also solid choices for anyone looking for something outside the usual tonkotsu options, and they each offered a distinct flavor profile that kept the meal interesting. Service is quick and friendly, and the restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to return to. The staff checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable without hovering. Since the space is small and popular, it can fill up quickly during peak hours, so visiting outside of the busiest times is the easiest way to avoid waiting. The turnover moves efficiently, and even when the restaurant is full, the flow of the meal stays smooth. Chicago Ramen delivers a comforting bowl of ramen with flavorful broths, quality noodles, and a style that feels carefully executed rather than just another ramen stop. The combination of a cozy atmosphere, customizable bowls, and a focused menu makes it a place worth visiting when you are in the mood for something warm and satisfying.

But meat just tastes better bbq'd on charcoal, y'na mean? It honestly had been a decade and a half since I went to a proper charcoal KBBQ, so this was super exciting for me. The place had an old facade that was reminiscent of the "old days" for me. Not to say it was run down or anything, but everything from the floorplan to the old tables with charcoal pit installed tables reminded me of the KBBQ era of the 90's and beyond. Loved it! My family went inside way past lunch hour, so the place had cleared out and owners seemed to have been having lunch. The two gentlemen eho greeted us gave out father and son energy, but I couldn't be sure. There was a life sized photo of the oldtimer in a marathon getup hanging on one side of the shop entrance, which he explained was taken a decade ago. I could tell he would have been around my father's age, but seemed super healthy. A pleasant man for sure! It may not necesaarily be a good thing for owners, but I love it when there aren't too many patrons around, because it means that I'll get all the attention I need from them, when I need. It was certainly the case here. They were super attentive when we needed something. To be fair, we knew exactly what we wanted, so it wasn't like we needed to call them every 5 minutes, but it certainly was easy to get their attention when I needed another bottle of beer. :-D My family of three order two servings of marinated galbi, contemplating on whether or not to order my wife's favorite pork belly. In the end, we were too full and were glad we stopped with only two servings. We'll just have to come back to try other meat later. This is ALWAYS a dilemma for my family. All three of us each have our favorites, but none of us can eat a whole serving. We usually end up going with my daughter's favorite every time, unless my wife and I are out by ourselves, which these days is not as often as I'd like. We'll just have to wait a couple more years for her to graduate.. Galbi (short ribs) was GREAT! Not much else to say about it, other than the fact that any meat will taste better when grilled on charcoal. With so many other KBBQs around town with more "hip" and "modern" atmosphere, I don't know how well New Seoul is doing these days, but I certainly hope they do enough business to continue to be around. More and more Korean restaurants are moving away from their traditional way of doing things in order to cater to American audiences. They may not be huge changes, but these subtle changes make people like me and my wife a bit sad because it eats away a little bit of our nostalgia each time we experience some. I hate to sound like an old man about it, but I guess it falls to people like myself to continue to support more of the traditional places like these over the young ones. Anyway, based on just the marinated galbi my family had, I must give them 5 stars!
