The best sushi in the Northshore! I tried so many places since I've moved here and none of them have been great. This place makes their sushi nicely rolled and the rice is a good consistency. Eh, it was ok. Decided to try here bc my husband and I really wanted sushi and our favorite place ( Kazoku Sushi ) is closed for remodeling, it was just ok. Definitely can't compare to our place. Even down to the spicy mayo and eel sauce, they were really thick and we couldn't even drizzle it on the sushi, like mostly mayo, ew! I love crunchy rolls bc I love the crunchy in them and these tasted like there wasn't even any in them. So I was a little disappointed, I didn't leave this review to put them down but in hopes they read it and do better, if someone orders crunchy rolls, put crunchy in them! read more

Sort of looks like a dive from the outside - in an unassuming strip mall along a dark corner of Hyw 190. Don't be fooled - this is an excellent sushi place. Casual but nice. Really love this place! GREAT for a date night! My boyfriend and I like to stop in here for Sake, a glass of wine, and fresh rolls. We like to sit at the sushi bar, and are always greeted with a warm smile by the sushi chefs. Last time, they even made us a special dish to taste for free. That was really a nice touch. I used to be a big fan of this Restaurant. The last few times "in my opinion" the tuna had no flavor. Also they did not have the happy hour from 5-6pm. Great little sushi 0place in Mandeville! They were open on Sundays which is when we wanted sushi. A lot of sushi places aren't. We ordered crunchy rolls, the mandeville toll, and the rock n roll. All of them were so delicious. My fiancé and I aren't totally into the fresh fish so we get the cooked and fried stuff and it was perfect for us. We also had edamame that was hot and tasty. I was quite shocked about our dinner at Sake Garden. Like, very pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Sushi in Mandeville, of all places! Sake Garden is a smaller, more intimate restaurant - there aren't very many tables, so I would expect a wait over the weekend. My coworkers and I (party of 5) went on a Monday evening, and it wasn't busy at all. First surprise of the evening: edamame on the house for all of us! The edamame was oversalted, but if you just avoided sucking on the pod, you'd get enough salt to season the beans. Miso/clear soup is normally served, but we also got that, too. Again, the miso was also on the salty side. We ordered 8 rolls and a big plate of nigiri sushi. The rolls were pretty simple, but they were prepared well. The cold rolls were better than the cooked ones - I like my cooked rolls to be hot, and these were warm at best. Final surprise of the evening: banana tempura and ice cream on the house! I can't even fathom how we received so many items on the house (unless they just give those to you already, and I'm completely unaware of that...). This was a great dessert, a really good way to end the evening. The service at Sake Garden was always attentive without being overbearing, and they really know how to treat their customers right. It was after 8 pm when I walked in with my children and husband; the restaurant closes at 9:30. I received no welcome but a strange look as if the restaurant were already closed and we weren't supposed to be there. This was very off-putting. What I did like about this place is the sushi kids' meal. It is a fantastic deal and has a lovely presentation. The rest of the food was all pretty good, but we all expected to get white rice with our meals but got fried rice instead. I found this rather odd. We also received our bill even though we weren't finished eating and weren't even asked if we wanted dessert. Overall, we felt that the staff wanted us not to be there so they could close up for the night. I would love to give this restaurant a better review, but they need to improve their costumer service. If they are open until 9:30 then they need to be ready to welcome customers who walk through their door. And they should never bring a check before the meal is finished and without asking the customer if they want anything more. Could be 4-5 star with those improvements but I am not sure if we will try it again. read more

I so enjoy coming here for many reasons!! It's a small place and I like that a lot. Even when it's packed it never feels overwhelming. The sushi and sashimi are excellent. One day I treated myself to lunch here. I prefer sashimi and I had ordered salmon plus a few other fish. I was really impressed when the server returned and said that the chef chose not to serve me the salmon because it had not been kept cold enough and asked me to choose another fish. The fresh salmon sashimi was the freshest we've had since returning home to Louisiana. The eel salad was very good as well as the spider roll. Best Sushi on the Northshore!! When my husband and I moved to mandeville from uptown I was afraid we wouldn't find a sushi restaurant as good as our usual favorites....I was so wrong! Sake Garden is incredible! The sushi and sashimi are always fresh and they accommodate any request - such as no rice. The owner/manager remembers our name and always double checks that our order is correct. The prices are very reasonable and the sake is great too! The more I eat at places on the Northshore, the more I find that appearances can be deceiving. This certainly applies for Sake Gardens. Snug in the middle of a strip mall can be found some delicious sushi and Japanese. The waiters are quick to come over, hand you a warm fragrant hand towel, and take your drink order. The menu is basic but extremely good. D loves their oyako donburi, one of his favorite Japanese dishes (and very hard to find outside of lunchtime menus). I love their super-fresh sushi. Prices are reasonable, portions are good. We like this place so much that it's become a standard dinner stop, and the staff has started to recognize us! read more

I had the best sashimi at this restaurant and it was totally random that we found this place. Google was taking us to a local road to avoid traffic and we stumbled upon Mandeville. We ordered Sushi and sashimi combo plate which came with miso soup and salad. The fish was so fresh and buttery. The chef was also really nice that he even gave us a plate of ademame for no charge. We were also very impressed with the service here. The warm towels was a really nice touch. I've tried sushi at many places from Los Angeles to Boston and Orlando but this is hands down the best sushi restaurant. read more

Pleasantly surprised! The restaurant was busy so our food took awhile to come out but the server presented us with dumplings on the house! Such a kind gesture. We had the Crunchy Roll, Lion King Jumbo Roll, Snow Crab Naruto, & Hawaii Roll. All of the rolls were great! The Snow Crab Naruto was wrapped in cucumber. It was so fresh & crisp-a new favorite! I have eaten at Sake Garden a few times now and it is consistently great but just seems to be getting better. I ate there tonight...The tuna tataki salad was perfect and the eggplant appetizer melts in your mouth. It has a sweet taste but not too sweet and somehow the eggplant seems caramelized. The mackerel sushi is also delicious and comes with a paper thin lemon slice on top. Honestly, everything I've had there is delicious. The service is friendly and our service timing was impeccable. Most of the time the business seems slow which is disappointing since this is one of the best restaurants on the northshore and definitely deserves your business! read more

Not sure why the reviews are so high for this joint. The sushi was not bad, but it was not great.. Service was terrible!. The waiter acted like we were a bother. He couldn't stay at the table long enough to get everything we needed down. Skimpy on the spicy mayo sauce. Kept bringing a spot and would get upset when we asked for more. Never asked us if we were good or needed anything. Had to pry him from the TV to order or ask something else. The atmosphere was not impressive either. The bathroom had a half door with two stalls no privacy. We will not go back. read more

This is possibly the best Japanese restaurant I have been to in a long time. I came in and was promptly greeted along with my two friends by the incredibly sweet waitress and host. We were seated and given those great little hot towels along with our menu and our drinks were at our table within 5 minutes of walking through the door. The host seemed to know when I was out of sweet tea before I did and promptly brought me a full glass each time. I ordered the chicken teryaki bento box and was brought a salad, soup, chicken, fried rice, dumplings, an orange and half a snowcrab roll, all of which was delicious. When we got the bill, the prices were actually lower than even advertised on the menu. Overall, the service is great, the food is incredible and the prices are LOW.
