When we walked in the host looked like he hated his job including pretty much the other workers in there. Our server was good. She didn't seem like she really wanted to work but she was still kind. We were in town visiting and decided to stop to try this place. I felt it was reasonably priced for sushi. The Hubby and I decided to get the LOVE boat which was PLENTY. It not only had a boat load of sushi, but you got soup and salad with it also. The sashimi was so BIG I had to cut mine in half. VERY impressive and will def be revisiting next time we go back to Lufkin. If you ever feel like expanding, Greenville TX needs some good sushi! Well got a a lil sushi kick and had Amazing sushi and service at Tsubaki but not gonna lie felt it was a little expensive so we decided to try Sake cafe. It had been many years since I had eaten at sake but it wasn't as I remember or on same level as Tsubaki! I ordered sushi combo meal came with 3 rolls of my choice, soup and salad. Soup and salad came out and were great, would recommend loved ginger dressing but then sushi came, Wow I've never had sushi this dry not even fake crab sushi you get in grocery stores! I had to get my friend to try it and see if it was just me, but he instantly said same thing! Dry! So told waiter she offered to replace I said no it's okay and being nice I offered to pay for soup and salad. Not knowing that soup and salad would end up being almost same price as whole meal! One of my favorite places in Lufkin! Quaint, clean, friendly & good quality sushi. Don't be afraid to ask questions the sushi chef is super nice and helpful and can create rolls according to your likes if not too busy. My fave is the Narruto roll and the Rocky II Roll. So yummy! read more

When in town this is my go to spot. But my last visit here was just so sadly disappointing. We were sat at as a dirty table, got our food (which were double checked 20min after our initial order), had to get our own silverware once food reached our table and the bathrooms were disgusting! It was obvious that management is needing to make this place back to where it was two years ago. When ordered this time I stuck to sushi which was yummy as usual. My husband got the Generals chicken which he was disappointed with saying it was too sweet and too much sauce. Once we got to pay our bill. We received the wrong bill and had to flag down the waiter multiple times to have it corrected. Although it was very busy when we came this time around. Having been in Lufkin for about a week and consistently disappointed with the quality of dining establishments I thought I would really go for broke and press my luck with a sushi joint. Lo and behold, lady luck smiled upon me and delivered a fantastic sushi experience. The Lufkin roll with crawfish was very good, as was the sushimi deluxe. They have beer and sake available, as well as a variety of teas. I liked the decor: simple, a few paintings on the walls. They have a big screen TV in the back of the place, so you can keep an eye on sports or whatever. Service was nice, very attentive. All in all, will be coming back here. read more

I couldn't believe it the first time, so I had to return to make sure that I wasn't kidding myself. Sake Cafe is the real deal for fresh sushi rolls. They have a great selection of traditional rolls and sashimi. The best part is that the rolls are average-sized (for a Californian like myself)! They are not store-bought-sized like what some restaurants serve! The Crunchy Roll is a must and getting a bento box most likely means that you will be leaving with leftovers. So here I am in the middle of Lufkin and I'm craving some sushi. Lufkin isn't exactly New York City, so I felt like there was no hope. I went on Yelp and lo and behold...Sake Cafe! I ordered the Naturo Roll, Tiger Roll, and Lufkin Roll. Surprisingly, all the rolls were pretty delicious. The Naturo Roll was made of essentially avocado and crab, and it was very refreshing. The Lufkin Roll was a bit on the spicy side for me, but good nonetheless. Three rolls are usually not enough for my girlfriend and I, but we were super full afterwards. Yup. Lufkin and sushi never use to mix. I read the reviews and I do agree. I've been to NYC. I've even been to Tokyo... and surprisingly Sushi is not a common food in Japan at all. Sushi is very expensive in Japan and really only rich people have the luxury to enjoy this type of food. The presentation was elegant yet simple. Food is usually pretty good. I only get the sushi. The Tulane is probably my favorite. My Husband likes the "Andy's Special". It's not on the menu, he makes it unique for each order. Just give your likes and dislikes. If you really like it, then take a picture so that he can make it again. Service can be really hit or miss though. read more

Apparently here it's crab and avocado... which is a crab and avocado roll not a Cali roll. I couldn't even finish my lunch because the sushi was obviously no where near fresh, and the crab in the Cali roll tasted like it had been out for a week. This is my first visit to Sake Cafe. The service is impeccable and the sushi chefs are really attentive. I sat at the bar because I was bye myself. Andy, one of the chefs gave me a slice of Didi Roll, best darn stuff I have ever eaten in a sushi bar. Ordered the Didi Roll for supper and shrimp tempura as an appetizer. The Didi Roll is enough for two people and did not disappoint! The shrimp tempura with two shrimp, tempura sweet potato slice, zucchini slice and broccoli, all in tempura were fantastic as well. I don't care for sweet potato any way it is prepared under normal situations, however, this was good enough that I'll order again!!! I ordered take out here. Food was well packaged and I was very impressed with attention to detail in containers that would t leave a mess in your car. They took my order and since I had never eaten here before I went with their suggestions on salad dressing and soup. Salad was cold and crisp but the dressing lacked any true flavor. The soup was just bland and tasted like maybe a fish was boiled in its broth, with some slime green leafy bits and tofu. The sushi was good and although I was turned off eating after the soup I tried the main dishes that seemed to be ok but nothing to write home about. The sauces were really thick. We moved here 2 yrs ago expecting to find the average fried-food fare of a small east TX town, only to be gladly surprised by the selection, price, cleanliness, friendliness of staff, and variety of the menu! We love to get the pepper tuna appetizer and since we have 2 small kids, we are so happy Sake lets us order carry-out from their menu! It's so much easier to order it and go take fresh sushi home! I am a big fan of their seaweed salad, and evey roll, handroll, or sashimi we've ordered has been delicious. My husband and I moved to Nacogdoches from Houston in July 2009 and we LOVE to take the short trip to Lufkin to go to Sake Cafe. They have "happy hour" sushi and appetizer prices everyday from 3-6 and it is so inexpensive! They serve a cucumber salad before you get your sushi and it is so very yummy. The sushi is great. Always fresh and tasty. The service is always good and everyone is friendly. I recommend Sake Cafe to anyone and everyone! read more
