Surprised by so many bad reviews. This was some of the best airport food I've had. Shrimp cocktail was really excellent- super fresh and enormous prawns with a great cocktail sauce! French dip sandwich served with jus and horseradish sauce on the side was served the classic plain way and the flavor and tenderness of the meat was exactly right. iPad ordering system defaults to 18% tip when you order but you can change that if you wish and leave some cash after your meal (I wouldn't recommend that personally). I am in the food and beverage industry and I do not want to be too critical of restaurants in general. Yet, I am giving this restaurant a generous 2 star for a combination of reasons. Food quality is merely acceptable, but not impressive. The ingredients were good but the preparation was subpar. I did order their basic burger to be cooked to medium that was $28. Now let's see what I received for it. The burger showed up 20 minutes later and was well done instead of medium which turn out to be too dry. The fries were room temperature and not crispy at all. The burger bun was good. I ordered a well (house brand) vodka that was $18. The drink was weak and appeared to have 1.25 oz of vodka instead of at least a 1.50 oz. of vodka (minimum standard restaurant pour size for this price). You have to input and order your own food and beverage on an iPad. So your server is merely a food porter, but they will help you to place your order! They do not accept cash payment and It seems that this system is set up to protect the restaurant against cash handling issues by the staff, and you become a part of the internal control system without your choice. In general, this place is in the business of highway robbery. read more

We flew through Newark on our way home from Italy and had a long layover. We tried to go find a place to eat, and were disappointed that all of the restaurants were iPad ordering. We finally settled on Saison because they had a true kitchen so we thought the food would be good and we could hang out there for awhile. We were shocked to see the prices, but the restaurant was clean and we were greeted right away and didn't have any better option. Our food was good (burger and French dip) but definitely not worth the price. The burger was a speciality burger, and only came with lettuce and tomato. You had to pay extra for your cheese, onions, etc. after you already paid $23. The service was terrible though. I don't expect much from airport restaurants, but this was a new low. We didn't get water refills and the server never came by to check up on us. There were at least 10 staff members there and it wasn't busy at all. The only interaction we had was when we first sat down (to see if we knew how to order ourselves) and when someone dropped the food off and left before we could ask for the other things we needed. Next time I'll just grab something reasonably priced from a quick service place and wait out the layover at my gate. read more

First of all I'd like to say how impressed I was with the pricing. Everything on the menu was at a great value. Second of all I want to compliment the taste and quality of all we ordered. This place is not very good period! Pricing is ridiculous...fine dining pricing with run of the mill diner food. How is it that you order on an iPad and they still get your food order wrong? Waited about 10 minutes to get my coffee...when the first ones arrived they had a ring of coffee grinds floating at top of mug so of course it was sent back...quickly I received a new cup but was not given a spoon or sugar...so now I'm waiting again. My husband went to this place to do work, and asked if it was okay to set up and order just a drink. The man said we could pick a bar table or sit at the bar counter, so my husband proceeded to set up his laptop while my sister and I went to get water for the plane. He ordered a lemonade and I came back to join him. While I was looking through the menu and looking to pick a salad and drink, this man charges up to the table and yells aggressively, "Hey! You can't just order a little lemonade with no tip and take up our table! Either get out or go to the bar counter!" We explained that we were still planning to order and were planning to tip before leaving and he said "WHAT will you order, because you can't just get that and take up a table" in a very rude tone. Please note- there were so many tables available. The man and most other staff had their masks over their mouths with their noses exposed. You may as well not wear it. There are not very many affordable food options at Newark Liberty International Airport and we decided to hit this one up. It was one of those restaurants where you order from an iPad and the food gets delivered to you. They had outlets at each station which was nice. This place was outrageously expensive, though other restaurants in the airport were comparable. Our bill was just over $31 for two French onion soups, a Diet Coke and tip. $11 for soup?! And it was incredible salty and made my stomach uneasy. The drink was barely 6 oz for $3.50. Quite a rip off. Service was mediocre at best, my mom was missing a napkin, I asked the server for one for her, he never got her one! He could have grabbed one off the next table! Horrible business model, THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CASH, at all, as a payment type. They don't tell you this or post signage to notify you. After sitting down and getting my drink and trying to place my order I was informed could not pay cash. As a matter of principle I picked my bags up and promptly left. I ordered on the iPad on the table, and was brought a drink promptly but it took 35 minutes for someone to come and tell me that the didn't have what I ordered, by which time I was getting anxious to leave for the gate. I substituted a salad which still took another 5-10 mins and I was leaving as it arrived. I very quickly ate it and the food actually wasn't bad, but can't recommend this place unless you have a couple of hours to kill and aren't hungry when you go in! The bartender (had slick backed hair) - 12/22/14 You have to out an order on an ipad and then swipe your card in order for it to go through. Never have seen that before. Well the bartender forgot to tell me that I needed to swipe my card for the order to go through. He only explained how to order my food. I sat there for 30 minutes just waiting for food that was never going to come. I told the other bartender what happened he said, "oh no sorry" and walked away. It's really too bad that this place isn't better. But I agree with Paul B.'s review - the service is mediocre. How can it be so bad!? And it's not that the people are bad - they are actually really nice. They just are never around! If you want/need something or think that you might in the next hour, you better ask for it when you finally have someone come to your table. The problem is that you order everything on the iPad, and pay for it up front - including tip. I mean, how can you tip before you receive service? Then you just feel like they took the tip and ran. It's really disappointing. I guess you can just keep using the iPad to summon someone - maybe that works? Who knows. If I ever return here, I will just sit at the bar. Food wise, they have a good concept here. We ordered the charcuterie plate which was terrific except it didn't come with any bread which I thought was odd. (And it took 15 minutes to finally receive some upon request, at which point most of the plate was already finished). They can dramatically improve if they just check in with the customers more frequently. That's it. It's an airport - people might be in a hurry. Allowing them to pre-pay doesn't quite cut it. Don't order the coffee. There's something wrong- it has this weird sour taste. It tastes as if they use the same water that is used on the airplane for tea. Blech. My oatmeal was decent.
