Brought my young adult sons here after scouring Terminal C for a nice place to spend a 3 hour layover. We had a very nice experience. Service was friendly and the food was pretty good. We ordered the octopus, which was a little dry, but everything else was tasty and fresh, from oysters to steak tartare. Cocktails were well made and the atmosphere was nice. Once finished using the iPads to order, we turned them down so we could share plates of appetizers. Definitely not cheap, but remember that this is the same place you pay $6 for a bottle of water! read more

Staff doesn't offer refills or check on quality. $50 for a piece of salmon with no side or garnish and a soda? The best that can be said is the open seating in the terminal area. Insult to injury- the server expects a TIP for doing literally nothing. The ipad sets up autograt. Stay as far away as you can. The franchisee WILL be hearing from me. read more

I walked in expecting little. I walked out very satisfied with my meal, and especially the hospitality. Although it carried the pricing burden you would expect, my Niçoise salad with tuna was quite good, and the California Chardonnay was also pretty good. The waitstaff was really helpful. BEWARE !!! Beware of your money. They have a tactic. People are in and out catching flights and drinking, so they expect you not to notice extra money charged to your card. Raoul the bartender told me tip can't be added, tip must be in cash. So I gave him $20 cash tip. Good thing I checked my bank statement immediately through my bank's app, because I was overcharged $60, including $18 gratuity, upsell double charged on double shots on drinks I never asked for, and charged for wine that was offered on the house to my mom. When brought to their attention, Raoul said he gave her a large pour and that's why he charged for 2 glasses of wine (we're talking $30 here), the pour was not large and regardless it was offered on the house !! Plus he tried to convince me that my mother ordered a drink before I got there. This bartender is a liar & a thief. There were doubles & add-ons all over the bill trying to sneak as money off of me as possible. It took the manager 30 minutes to figure this out (good thing my flight was delayed) and it was such poor management & bad vibes. I'll bet the manager stood in the back hoping my flight was leaving soon & that I'd just give up and leave. I have managed before, what kind of manager doesn't know how to look up a transaction that happened 10 minutes prior? Truly they're all in this together and don't care about right from wrong. Another waitress there convinced me that all was correct. There was an additional $25 charged to my card after I left. Shame on all of you, this is my hard earned money! Bad karma is coming your way! I've never experienced such scumbaggery at a restaurant before. Too bad the Pat LaFreida burgers were amazing, what a shame for the food to be overshadowed by this nonsense. Airport dining generally isn't regarded too highly. Unfortunately, I experienced just that at Saison (Terminal C) at the Newark Liberty Airport - EWR. The French bistro menu seemed enticing enough with items such as branzino, escargot and dry aged NY strip. I was greeted by a friendly restaurant manager who sat me and my carry-on luggage by a nice table by the window. There is plenty of seating as the restaurant opens up towards the back with windows facing the tarmac and planes. My server was a sweet waitress and I really appreciated her lovely attitude. Although the actual restaurant space and set up was an above average setting, my low rating is attributed mostly to the food. First of all, every table has an ipad where you view the menu and order your meal. You have to start by scanning your boarding pass and you'll be able to see food pricing by airline miles/points or cash. The servers go around helping patrons bc the ordering process can be a little tricky. Technology these days! One of the ipads at my table didn't work as quickly, so the waitress used the other ipad to make the transaction. Since everything is electronic, they only accept credit card payment. I was dining alone, so the ipad was my date I suppose. I ordered the Cioppino ($33). By the way, they also automatically add the gratuity to your order through the electronic system. My total tab without drinks came out to be ($41.25). As for the Cioppino - atrocious. The dish looked pretty good but everything about it was horrible. The first bite I took of a clam - crunch! Apparently, they did not clean the clams or mussels properly as there was sand in too many bites. The shellfish were all overcooked and rubbery. In addition, there was no fish in the bowl of seafood stew. The prawns were large but also overcooked. As for the tomato broth - it was incredible salty and had no other flavor. I suppose the grilled french bread was decent although slightly burnt. It was a disaster of a dish and I would say needs a lot of improvement. read more

I found the food to be pretty decent here, considering where this place finds itself. Got the Cuban sandwich, and it didn't disappoint me at all: crispy bread, right combination of ham, cheese, and pickles. It came with a simple salad on the side, which was also good. They even have a surprisingly wide selection of beers, and I managed to get an awesome Belgian ale. True, it was a bit pricey at $34 (including 15% tip) for a sandwich and a beer, but that was kinda expected. What I didn't like is the fact that they double charged me for my order. The waitress did notice that I got charged twice, and promised she'd void one of the transactions. However, I checked back with my credit card a week later, and the charge was still there. I dunno...I'm between a 2 and a 3 here. Newark has become so expensive and dining options all suck. I had 3700 miles left on my mileage plus account, about to expire. I don't accrue miles on any airlines, because I fly as a non-rev (not a revenue passenger) unless I choose to buy a ticket for a special occasion or something. In fact, when staying in hotels or renting a car I choose to earn miles on my Delta Sky Miles account. So I was looking at ways to spend the meager 3700. Completely far away from gifting someone a flight. About 100 shy to order flowers. Can't download audiobooks because of some rule that you have to be a mileage plus explorer visa cardholder (although I had plenty of miles for that option). Buuut, I just found out you can use your miles for food at the pricey restaurants at Newark airport. Guess who had bone marrow for lunch? But wait......Don't get too excited. It was mediocre at best. I ordered it to go along with fries and a grapefruit juice (which left me with 4 miles in my account) They also use a few hundred miles to account for the tip. In my to-go bag, I was disappointed to find that there was no bread. Who the hell serves roasted bone marrow without bread? Am I supposed to put this gelatinous marrow on my frites? (I actually did end up doing that.) Also missing was a fork. The fries were tasty, but scant in portion. I liked the garlic/oil/cilantro that came in a little platic container to pour over the bone marrow (or at least I'm assuming that's what it was for. The other option was drinking it, which I'm not above doing....) There was a whole raw radish as a garnish with the bone marrow. Cute. If I would have paid cash, I think it would have been close to 30 bucks. Wouldn't choose to do that for sure. read more

Ok Newark airport may be the armpit of America but WOW was I impressed by Saison. This french bistro is not a place to have a quick meal, but if you have a long layover like we did then it is certainly enjoyable to have a sit down meal with some libations here. You order here from a menu on an ipad mounted on the table. Your order goes straight to the kitchen and the food comes out. Although this is pretty cool in concept the novelty wears off quick for a couple of reasons: 1) Once you are done ordering there is still an ipad in front of your face obstructing conversation with your date 2) Since ordering goes straight to the kitchen there is less reason for the servers to be in your vicinity. We were abandoned for quite a long time and wanted to ask for some water. Other than the kinks of the weird ordering system the food here is VERY GOOD. Note I said GOOD but not CHEAP. It is a bit pricey but if you are on a corporate card then who cares. We started with the escargot which were meaty, garlicky, and delicious. Next I had the deviled eggs. Normally I love these but they had just a bit too much mayo for me. The real star of the show was the Steak Frites. This was a pretty large NY Strip that was absolutely cooked to perfection. The fries and bernaise sauce really sent it over the top. If you are stuck in Newark Liberty then I am sorry...but you might as well have some good food so go to Saison. read more

When you drink at the airport you expect to pay more than you might elsewhere. You might expect to have a Budweiser $9.00. And this place does just that. Just get you fingers ready for an IPad mobile experience, because you are about to order a drink the way you order something on Amazon. All I wanted was a Bloody Mary, and I got that. But only after spending quite some time arbitrarily selecting different types of vodka to bring the price of my drink under $20. After finally finding a combination that got me to under $15.00 before tip I got my drink of choice. The drink I had was excellent though. Actually one of the best Bloody Mary's I have ever had. I owe it to the staff that were absolutely perfect. They were the gems in the rough at this establishment. I sat at the bar and ordered a coke. I suppose that upset the bartender because when I asked for a refill he said "are you going to oder something to eat? Because if you're not I can't have you sitting there." The bar was not crowded. Seats were available for others and I certainly would have given my seat up if there were people waiting to order. Looks great but the concept of order yourself from an iPad and bam your ready to go isn't quite working. I've been sitting at my table for 10 minutes, after placing my order, and haven't received my coffee or water. An attendant is standing 10 feet from me leaning on the restaurants structure engaging very little with anyone. In fact when I first arrived, I asked if I just sit anywhere and she gestured, yes without even saying anything. With the lack of service you might as well not have a greeter and save the money on labor. I haven't given a bad review for a long time but this experience calls for one. read more

This new tablet system doesn't make anything more convenient for me as a customer. Instead, what i am seeing is an outrageously overpriced menu full of typical mediocre airport food, a clumsy ordering experience, and a disengaged wait staff. This isnt just at this restaurant. I've seen this tablet system in LGA as well, for many different restaurants in one terminal. Overall, it's an already dated attempt to be modern. Sometimes when you're traveling, you just have to eat. This new system has muscled out the cheaper, yet still mediocre options I would rather approach. I just ate a $25 hamburger. Is it too late to review Saison? I was there June 11, 2018 & still fondly remember my experience. #1 Ask for Dishler to be your waiter. Is he still there? It was because of his exceptional service that I remember Saison. I've had a lot of waitpeople over the years but never anyone as caring & helpful. Dishler is professional & really wants to delight the customer. What a fine young man - I hope his employer appreciates him and his parents/family must be proud of the man he became. (No, I never met him before so this is honest). #2 The food & ambience is also wonderful. Note: It's French so you'll need the time & money to appreciate this dining pleasure. I've eaten here a few times and every time I'm reminded of why I keep coming back. To those who don't know it's self service - sit where you like, and place your order on the iPad in front of you. I can't say we've ever waited more than 10, maybe 15 minutes max. Food always comes out fast. Clean, comfortable aesthetic. Servers are always friendly and helpful. Perfect place to just sit, relax and take a break after fighting through the security line. It's a bit pricey, but it's an airport, comes with the territory. Overall 5/5 I make a point of arriving early any time we fly out of Terminal C so we can eat here. read more

My family of four stopped to grab an early breakfast of bacon and eggs on Saturday, FEB. 18th. There were no waitresses/waiters and you had to order electronically with no one to ask questions of. $114.96 later we were on our way. This is to help folks debating whether to go here given the reviews. I had a very good experience, with pleasant staff and a quick turnaround on my order. I admit the staff don't seem perfectly trained but they were attentive and always checking to make sure things were going right. Splurged for the steak and eggs which were solid, the meat is dry aged and cooked well. Eggs were perfect sunny side up. Tip : Definitely use your united credit card if you have one. 20 percent off and in my case it actually comped my meal for me! read more

Stopped in for lunch on my way out of town. Ordered a steak tartare which was prepared table side with traditional accompaniments. Beef was freshly chopped and not ground which was a good sign. It was well made but served sloppily over frisée and with not enough bread. Odd, table top ordering system is a bit awkward to have directly in the middle of the tables. All in all it was pretty good. Appears to have many bistro style dishes so I will give them a try next time through. read more

I really don't know why folks have given poor reviews,but I've had good food and great service here. The special drink cocktail, plate of octopus and hand cut fries all came in on time. The octopus was tasty and the cocktail was mixed well. We had great bartender service and he was always attentive serving us. read more

Our eggs and bacon came out cold and the bacon wasn't even cooked (fat was cold and I cooked). I asked to speak to a manager and I was told that our server would help us. Nope. Their iPad ordering station was malfunctioning - after a long flight with another flight coming, that was the last thing I wanted to deal with. The salmon niçoise salad came quickly but the salmon looked exactly like seared tuna. I eat salmon all the time, and I'm 100% sure it wasn't salmon. And if that was salmon, then I should be very concerned about the dark red colour of the flesh and firm non-oily texture. I was too hangry to inquire, so down the hatch. The waitress was friendly and promptly refilled my beverage. Overall, not a bad choice for a quick healthy bite. read more
