Is it weird that I'm suddenly obsessed with soil? If it is, I don't wanna be right…read more I recently became interested in planting stuff, but everything would grow like those wretched lil' mer-people in Ursala's cave (Little Mermaid reference). Through various conversations, I realized that my soil was as devoid of nutrients as Kim K is of charisma and talent. I decided to seek out help at Far South Wholesale nursery (I'll write a review on them later 'cuz they rock too). Unfortunately, they didn't have what I needed. They suggested I check out Garden-ville and I'm so glad they did! Any soil you need, they have. They are informative, helpful, kind, efficient, and will even tell you some hilarious puns if you let them. They take the time to explain and educate that you wish your primary physician would. I learned, in detail and with orderly steps, what I needed to do to make my lawn and garden beds healthy again. Did I mention they have two beautiful cats??? And the soil....I'm considering buying a truck just so I can purchase their stuff in bulk. It's beautiful. It's alive. It smells like nature. The prices are shockingly good too. I used to purchase crap soil off amazon or from Home depot at 2-3x the cost and half the quality. NO MORE MY FRIENDS. I'm ride or die for Garden-ville.

This looks like a small shop, but they have so much!…read more BIG trees are available. All kinds soil mixes are sold, both in wholesale amounts, and even retail. Their mulch is made on-site, so there is no middle man. In fact, I believe that everything is packaged on- site. They have a complex of over a thousand acres, so it's deceiving when you see the small shop. Plus, this place has been in business since the 1970's, and is family owned.

I'm so glad I found this place. It's a bit of a drive if you're not in North Austin (and even then,…read moreit's off the beaten path) but worth it - lots of plants and butterflies and general pastoral beauty to get lost in. Inside, there are a ton of herbs, supplements, and tinctures... all well-organized, if not a little overwhelming! I spent a good 45 minutes studying everything. I usually go to the Herb Bar in South Austin for convenience, but I found a larger selection here... if you're into natural medicine, you can find a ton of options for stress relief, energy and vitality, general health, and so on. I particularly like the Mental Clarity tincture. They also carry different types of henna, Chinese herbs, and herbs with common spiritual uses. Many herbs can be found in both dried and powdered form. I quite appreciated being able to find lots of stuff in one place. There are smaller selections of crystals and rocks, and standard hippie fare like woven ethnic bags and sage. I was a little wary of staff because of some other reviews, but the long-haired guy who helped us was really friendly and attentive. I overheard him answering a bunch of questions for another customer. There is a small fee to pay via credit card, but overall it was cheaper than other places I go to. Will be back!

Need herbs? Garden of Ancients probably has them and in many different forms. Do your research first and know what you want because not all of the people helping will be able to give you solid answers about things. They may utilize Google right in front of you, lol. It is a very friendly laid back environment. Eclectic environment. Also of note the building in the back away from the street, down a long driveway...so don't go looking for your average storefront. It's more of a house with garden areas. Have fun!
