Brisket was decent with good sauce options including beef tallow. Sides were disappointing. Not traditional greens. They were pickled for some reason. Not pictured but also ordered macaroni and cheese which also for some reason came with chopped up pickles that were not on the menu. If you can tell, I don't like pickled things. This restaurant assumes everyone does.

This was our second brunch stop of our weekend in Boise, and this was also a great choice. Gavin was our bartender, and he gave us perfect service, while Chris was the server on duty, and he helped out with food recommendations, city recommendation, and everything in between. I had the Naked Sunbather Brown beer, and wife had a French 75, and both were worthy starts to the Sunday. For food, Chris recommended the Brisket Benedict after I gave him my laundry list of possibilities and it didn't disappoint. One thing I will say. All of the ingredients tasted high quality, but the brisket itself was a game changer. Tasted like it was cooked with extreme care. Wife had the shrimp and grits and loved the dish. The atmosphere was nice and energetic. No TV on for sports, but that is not really the experience at this place. We sat at the bar, but the table experience looked quality too. I spaced on taking additional pics of the restaurant, so sorry about that, but have included two pics of our food. The restaurant is right on 8th, so you are in the heart of everything post-meal. I highly recommend visiting here for a meal or a drink during any Boise fun, and see you there (the next time we are in Boise)...

Saint Lawrence Gridiron is next-level good I tried the sausage + pickles platter (bison, wild boar, and venison) which was fun to try new gamey meats. The hush puppies were golden perfection, crispy outside, soft inside and not spicy at all even with the jalapeño pieces inside. But the star was the Gridiron Burger: brisket ground in-house, stacked with grilled onion, cheese, their house-made pickles and bacon jam. Juicy, savory, and totally unforgettable. Probably the best burger I've ever had. House made sauces like the fry sauce and the buttermilk dressing were also amazing and so good to dip the fries in.

Yes. I agree it's one of the best burgers in Boise. The bacon jam is on point and skin on fries is the only way to go.

Following up from my last review (which was focused more on brunch), I wanted to give an update here on how we liked their dinner menu. We went here for our anniversary dinner and had the mac and cheese with pulled pork, PBR plate, duck with spätzle, and brisket ends for the side. Overall, really enjoyed the food, especially the duck and brisket ends. The spätzle was okay, but that wasn't the star of the dish so it's fine. The brisket ends were delicious as always. We also had the cinnamon sugar donuts with berry compote. Really good too! Donuts were light and enjoyable. Our server, Chris, was awesome and took very good care of us!

The food was good overall but the prices were pretty high for the portion sizes. This rating is just for the food. The brisket had good sauces. The pickled vegetables were great to cut the fat because the pieces were very fatty. The Mac and cheese was a decent size overall. These two items were almost the right amount for two people to share but not enough to get full.

You can smell this restaurant from a mile away, in the best way. The smoker out front smells incredible! They have an amazing menu with great upscale BBQ options. We loved their ribs and brisket, both were so tender and flavorful. I also appreciated as a pregnant lady that they had mocktails available. I got a twist on a cherry limeade and it was delicious! I also loved their smoked potato salad!

Finally had a chance to try this place out this past week for lunch. Walking up the first thing that gets you entranced and wanting come in is that beautiful smell of cooked meats out from on their massive smoker. Inside and out wide open seating and the wait staff here were awesome and super friendly. I shouldn't say staff because it was only 1 guy that was there and he was doing it all. For food we started with the Louisiana dry rub wings served Alabama white sauce for dipping. These wings were perfectly executed and the white OMG delicious. You rarely see that on a menu out west so kuddos to you for bringing it out here. Burger was delicious! It had Bacon Jam, Grilled Onions, House Pickles, Special Sauce, Cheddar Cheese...my wife had the BLEU BRISKET Sandwich with Pickled Red Onions, Horseradish Gorgonzola Cream, Arugula. We both had fries and loved the hand cut homemade care that went into these. Plus the fry sauce was amazing! For those of you don't know this is an amazing compliment to dip your fries into as well as is great on burgers as well. Drinks were awesome and loved the selection of handmade craft cocktails. Food and our experience was excellent and for sure would be back for dinner and try some more of their menu. Well Done!!

We stopped in for brunch on a Saturday morning. Our server was fantastic and our food was amazing. We had the breakfast tacos with brisket and the chicken and waffles. I bet this place is really popular in the summer with the patio seating. I would love to come back the next time I'm in town.

Great looking bbq in the photos, but came up underwhelming. Unfortunately going back through the photos everything seems to be 3 to 6 years old, and I'd say things have changed a bit. Starting off with Cocktails, nice selection of drinks and liquers. I got a bourbon based cocktail, can't remember what it was called, but was very good, nice big ice cube. Enjoyed this for sure. We got a Mac and cheese and wings to start. Wings were pretty good, nice crisp. Dry rub tasted like a basic Cajun seasoning of paprika, cayenne, some sugar etc. Not bad, but nothing special. The mac and cheese was alright but underwhelming. Cavatappi noodles with a sauce pretty reminiscent of easy mac, especially in texture and color. No real complexity to the cheese flavor like an aged cheddar or something along those lines. The pictures show a cast iron dish with a breadcrumb topping but neither of those are present today. Certainly have had worse mac and cheese, but this was just mediocre. Brisket sandwich was fairly disappointing. Came on a ciabatta like roll, soft good texture for brisket. Much better choice than a hard French type bread which I've had on a brisket sandwich in the past, so good move there. The amount of brisket was minimal, maybe 1/4 lb, but I'd be hard pressed to say it was really even that much. Texture was as expected with brisket, tender, well cooked. The worst part though was really the fake liquid smoke flavor. If you've ever used liquid smoke, it has a very distinct and particular flavor and that was very present on this brisket. I wish I took a close up photo on the brisket but there was no smoke ring on the meat like you see in a lot of the other photos, and I really would question whether this was ever smoked at all. It definitely looks like from old photos that at some point meat was smoked (years ago? Who knows?). There was a smoker outside with smoke going, wood stacked up. But it just didn't taste or look like this brisket was smoked unfortunately. Perhaps something was wrong the day I was there (Sunday 9/4). But the only other recent photo of brisket also looks like it's lacking a smoke ring and at least one other reviewer mentioned a liquid smoke taste. Other than that, the fries were great. The rest of the experience was fine. Good service. Good drinks. Brisket was certainly edible, but food was mostly mediocre overall. The question of smoke has me questioning if I'll ever return. If the owner posts some photos of actual brisket on the smoker and some information on their smoking process, I'll update and add a star back to my review.

I was in town for business, and I had a local friend tell me, "you gotta go in here. You can tell…read morethe bartender what you like flavor wise, and they will make you something even better than you can imagine." And that, my friends, is exactly what happened. I walked in, not sure what to get. The bartender asked me what flavors I like. She went away and made me this epic cocktail. She told me all the things she added, and it was clear, these bartenders are the real deal. They know their stuff. I drank my delightful cocktail way too fast. But it was so damn good. The vibe is fun. They bartenders interact with everyone and do all kinds of cool things with cool ingredients and tell you about it all. Perfect spot for a loungey date night, or a meet up with a friend. There is no food. But plenty of spots on 8th in walking distance. This is probably one of the best cocktail bars I've ever been to. ... and I've been to a lot. :)

Like this bar changed my whole perspective on the whole state of Idaho being a California transplant, which doesn't hold that much weight with other people in Idaho, but I don't care. I will always come here anytime I come downtown and I will always overtip because the likes of Ruby and Darien never disappoint, including the regulars, whom are also always nice. For every overrated cactus bar with the worst service, there is the mode lounge which sets the standard for everything in Boise.

A speak easy in Boise! I was intrigued! The whole experience was so fun to share with a group of…read morefriends! We stood in the alley and knocked on the door. A small window in the door opened and we had to provide a password to gain entry. (Initially our large group had to reserve 3 time slots and we would be seated separately.) I was in the first group. We were let into a small area with floor to ceiling bookcases. Of course there was a book that once pulled, opened a secret door to the bar within. The ambiance was dim lighting and groups of comfortable seating areas. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the drinks on the menu. I started with a mocktail that could be made vegan by omitting the egg white. Beautifully presented with a flower design. It was sweet and it was tart. The second drink I got was a cocktail that was smooth with a perfect amount of sweet. My friends got cocktails in their unique glasses. When our next group came through, they were led into a room. After a while, one friend came out to say hello to us. The waiter noticed that we knew each other and told my group to follow him. The room was dimly lit and was furnished with comfortable armchairs and couches. Our third group was able to join us in the room and we were able to mingle seated or standing. The different drinks that were ordered were so cool. A smoky bubble was set on top of a cone shaped glass that resembled an ice cream cone. I had a couple of friends that ordered gin drinks and they were served in a bathtub complete with rubber ducky! This was such a fun and special way to celebrate a friend's birthday! The service was superb!

I've been to several speakeasies around the USA and Gatsby should be the standard of what a…read morespeakeasy should be. No really! Imagine yourself walking through the 8th St promenade in downtown Boise. It's hustling and bustling with people and restaurants that are packed. Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see an alley. It's kinda dark, maybe a little unsettling at first. You see a steel door with a small panel at the top of the door. No door handles but a green lit old stagecoach light, a small wooden sign hanging g just beyond the door with a key on it. Hmmm, strange. In faded sharpie letters it says Knock knock on the metal door, so you knock twice. The panel on the door slides open and they ask for the password. Whoa!!!! Luckily you called ahead to make reservations so they whispered it to you. You give the password and door opens to a tiny little library with a couple of shelves full of books. The hosts welcomes you and you stare at the bookshelf knowing it isn't just a bookshelf but a door. You try pulling on different books guessing which is the right one but after a minute the hostess shows you and you enter a beautiful brick walled 1920s decorated room with seats and dim lights and no windows whatsoever. The artwork is prohibition-era themed. Heck, there's even a stack of wooden barrels that supposedly hold spirits. That is exactly the speakeasy experience you are looking for. We were seated in the boiler room, a private area which had beautiful wooden lockers with glass doors all lit up and full of booze. Books line the wall and there is an old fireplace covered with candles that have melted wax all over the mantle. In the corner is a poker table. Really the perfect vibe for a speakeasy. Glance at the menu and notice their tang of cheaper to very rare and unique spirits, some costing hundreds of dollars for a shot. Whisky, vodka, rum, gin, scotch, bourbon, you name it. But also check out their cocktails. They can even make mocktails if you don't want alcohol. Not only are the drinks unique but so is their presentation. The glades used I've never seen. Some drinks have a printed pattern on them, others come with dry ice that quickly evaporates or a cool smoked filled bubble. The whole experience was just amazing. This is a do not miss opportunity if you like drinks and cool, unique experiences. They even have another room in the back called the Garrison Room which looks like a mineshaft. I just love the thought put into this place. And when you are done, you exit through a nondescript door and exits to a patio area of another restaurant and back out to the promenade. Just a wow experience! So glad I did it.

We both got the traditional eggs Benedict... and I ate maybe 15% of my breakfast and just stopped. My husband ate all of his... but mostly because he was just hungry... Much like our Labrador who will eat absolutely anything! Haha. But he said it was only OK. He rated it a 5/10. What he disliked the most was the potatoes. They were fairly hard/tough and tasted like they were fried in old oil and sitting under heat lamps for two hours before we got them. They were very dehydrated as well. For me... The hollandaise sauce was fresh, but had no flavor. It needed more lemon or salt or something. The ham was odd... I'm a little too salty. It seemed like Hillshire Farms sliced ham. Not something you would expect at a nice restaurant in your eggs Benedict. Also, I ordered an Arnold Palmer... And it was so sour that I had to send it back. I poured like a heaping teaspoon of sugar into it, and it didn't even make a difference.... It was that sour. It actually started to make my stomach hurt a little. So I sent it back. And the waitress was very nice, and didn't charge me for it. The service was good... But they cram everyone in there on one side of the restaurant... at least outside. I have no idea why... They have all this space in front of their restaurant and yet they try and cram everybody right next to each other. It was very annoying, and made me just wanna leave. They have many tables on the other side like 10 feet away... But they insisted on cramming everybody into the same small area. And you could tell nobody wanted to be that close to one another. I'm not sure if they do this to make it easier for their servers... Or to make the restaurant look busy. Either way, it's a practice that they really should stop. My advice to the restaurant... Utilize your space outside in front, stop cramming people so close together. When you have to get up and move your chair so someone can get to their table... it's ridiculous! On a positive note... Their coffee was actually really good! Some of the best that we've had in a restaurant in many many years. And I know, I mentioned it above, but I should mention it again... The weight staff was wonderful. From the girl who greeted us at the front podium, to our waitress, and the waitressing training. Everyone was wonderful. So, to end this review... I can only comment on the breakfast. We didn't have anything else there, and maybe it will be good... But I'm not sure if I'm willing to give this place another try. Good luck!
