This is a beautiful restaurant with a cozy but nice southern feel. I love that the outdoor tables are screened in. The service is wonderful and friendly. The food is delicious. I was so pleasantly surprised by the caramelized onion tarte! All of our dishes were great. They are on the smaller side though with price tags similar to other upscale places but with maybe a little more food. Saint Claire is a slice of bye country in the city. Down the road from Algiers point, this historic home turned restaurant is nestled in an unsuspecting neighborhood on the edge of the Mississippi River. If you're coming at night, be prepared to be a little suspicious but pleasantly surprised once you've arrived. We didn't come for dinner as we visited on a whim around happy after eating a large lunch. I'm a sucker for a decor and setting like theirs, but even an infatuation with that didn't help overcome its deficiencies. The service was very bland. We briefly interacted with one person, who was friendly and talkative; our actual server was more nonchalant than a professional poker player. The only plus came from her wine recommendation, but it's hard to mess that up when most of their wines are old-world and their plates are deep in flavor. Don't miss out on the crab salad. The fruit pies with buttermilk ice cream were the best desserts I had on my trip. A lot of their menu is missing that extra touch that would distinguish them from spots you can find in other major cities. Maybe if they fully accepted their southern identity, they'd shine just fine. Oh and a little enthusiasm from the service side of things wouldn't hurt either. read more

I wanted to like this place but it missed the mark for so many reasons 1 - Ambiance: it feels like a plantation. There's also a long rope hanging on a tree outside adjacent to where some of the parking is. Not sure if St Claire owns that land but I'd probably try to get it removed... The architecture and decor on the inside only reinforce the plantation theme. 2 - Food & Drink: This is the crux of any experience and I just felt that nothing truly delivered. The beets were good but I've had so much better. The smoke flavor wasn't really as deep as I'd like. The gumbo lacks a certain savoriness to make me want to revisit it, and the meat inside just didn't quite taste as rich as I'd like. Usually that's the best part. We got the rabbit ragu as well which was good but again nothing to write home about. The strawberry hand pies were again good but nothing special. 3. Special Occasion: This may just be a pet peeve of mine but if someone makes the effort to tell you it's a special occasion maybe make the effort to make it special by offering a free dessert, drink or something? I don't know. 3. Service: not bad All in all. I wouldn't come back. The drive honestly kinda sucks. The way it's billed you'd expect something a bit more elevated in terms of experience. What a dreamy location! You sort of think you're lost as you drive through an older suburban neighborhood to get there. And once you're on the property, you can't believe it. The oak trees are stunning and the former house is beautiful. THEN you get to the food and it's just delicious. I went for brunch and had the most perfect French omelet. Welcome to Saint Claire, Algiers newest fine dining experience. I hurriedly made reservations for 4 of us to have Brunch their opening weekend. We parked in a non convention way in the circular drive and made our way to the house. Upon entering we were warmly greeted and shown to our table. The interior is beautifully decorated, each setting dressed in vintage silver and tea cups of varied patterns. Gorgeous. We started with both biscuits and the baguette which came out with soft butter and fresh made confiture (similar to jam). The baguette was literally piping hot. Both choices were superb. Everyone ordered cocktails, but I can only speak for my delicious Bloody Mary and my friend's Corpse Survivor(lovely lemony) which were both heavenly. I had the Lamb meatballs with grits and to say they were so delicious is quite an understatement. Maybe super duper delicious would be more accurate. Everyone really enjoyed their choices making "mmmmm" sounds with each bite. and yes, we'll try the desserts too, fresh peach hand pies and a chocolate mousse type selection. We left so satisfied and ready to conquer the world, instead of heading home for naps. I don't often think about dining experiences all day and the next day. I did this time. A beautiful location, wonderful staff and the most memorable meal is a stunning start for Saint Claire. Thank you Saint Claire, sending you big energy. I had a lovely brunch at St. Claire. I think I was there for their last brunch service. I will definitely go back for dinner. The food was outstanding and service impeccable. The ambiance was lovely and we were able to walk the grounds after our meal. It's so peaceful and beautiful. We dined here on March 29th at 7:15 PM with a reservation for two. As someone who genuinely wants to support local Algiers businesses and see them thrive, I'm sharing this feedback in that spirit. Overall, the atmosphere has a lot of potential, and we appreciated the opportunity to move to the porch, which made a big difference in our comfort and allowed for a more relaxed, private dining experience. The main dining room felt quite tight and close to other tables, which made conversation a bit difficult. From a menu standpoint, we found the options more limited than expected. As members of the Jewish community who do not eat pork, there were only a couple of dishes we could realistically choose from. Beyond that, we would have appreciated more variety in proteins--such as fish or steak options--or additional pork-free or vegetarian dishes to make the menu more inclusive for different dietary needs. The portions we received also felt somewhat modest. That said, we understand the challenges of curating a focused menu and appreciate the effort that goes into it. We simply hope that, as the restaurant continues to grow, it may consider expanding a few items to better reflect the diversity of the community it serves. We would consider returning in the future if the menu becomes a bit more flexible, especially given how much we enjoyed the improved experience on the porch. read more

The drive to the place could use a few more street lights, but don't let that deter you from trying an awesome ambiance and food. This is a sit down place, great for date nights. Absolutely incredible establishment. A bit out the way, the roads are a bit rocky but you're in New Orleans, you're used to that. The property is beautiful with so much potential to become even more, as if it even needs to. I'd kill for outdoor dining under the oaks in the future(in case anyone is listening.) The Good: I'm a huge Duck connoisseur. I've probably eaten every duck dish in the city, with my favorites being the Smoked Duck at Clancy's and the Duck with Blueberry sauce at Vincent's. That being said, the Duck Confit here is the best in the city. I had the variant with muscadine grapes and country ham and every bite was unbelievable. - 10/10 The smoked beets appetizer as well? Masterclass. I'd come here and order 3 orders of this. - 10/10 The poached shrimp and citrus was exceptional. I do not particularly love fennel, so one of my tests of a great establishment is if they can incorporate fennel into a dish and make me like it. They did it here, Shrimp were super fresh and the quality of the herbs made every bite a different super-coherent but surprising based on what you got more or less of. -10/10 The blueberry hand pies are amazing. Super flaky pastry, delicious filling, and some of the best ice cream I can remember having. Nothing transcendent, but very very good execution of a hand pie - 9/10 The Bad: Not a whole lot. If I had one critique of the meal, it was with the Gumbo. I thought the flavors were very good, and while I personally love how dark the Roux was I can see a lot of people not being a fan. It is extremely dark, and could definitely be controversial. While I thought the gumbo was great, I have to say I found the quality of the Andouille in the Gumbo lacking. It was very dry, almost crumbly, and really lacked any noticeable flavor and just didn't add much to the dish. I really am saying this as a byproduct of how absolutely incredible everything else was, this didn't feel like it fit the quality of the establishment and was noticeably a lower-quality ingredient. That being said, the side of potato salad and the pickled okra were amazing touches as well. In all, I'd give the gumbo: - 8/10 (Gumbo is gumbo guys) read more

It deserves recognition but it is no where near one of the best dining experiences in the country. There was nothing that we had that was extraordinary. Good but not extraordinary You are encouraged to share things from the top of the menu. We shared the crab salad at $32 and the fried eggplant. The eggplant was fried to perfection..not greasy and light. The crab meat was simply tasteless and like the eggplant the portion size was ridiculously small with barely a bite for two people. The gumbo is hearty and tasty but not the best in the area by any stretch..and again not much more than a cup. The gnocchi and crab meat had a very tasty sauce but was otherwise pedestrian and ridiculously small portions. The ciabatta bread and accompanying butter and fig jam were fresh and very good. The hand held blue berry pie and ice cream was done well. Service was friendly and professional. However, to charge grand restaurant prices I would like to get grant restaurant service. That didn't happen. Perhaps in time they will meet the expectations that being rated in the nyt would give them. They are not there yet. read more

We were awed as soon as we pulled up into the drive and looked at the warm light glowing from the dining room. The ambiance is unique, it feels as if you are dining in a cozy living room in someone's beautiful home. The staff was incredibly professional. Our meal was outstanding, as was the service. We ordered the short-ribs and the duck confit, and it was one of the best meals we have had in the entire city. We will be back, and we will be bringing friends. read more

Been to the chef's other restaurant, Mosquito Supper Club, many times and always loved it. However, Saint Claire lacked in every aspect where MSC excelled. I went with a group and was served a very underwhelming tasting menu. Service was average and dinner was slow. You expect to be "wowed" at a price of $150/per person. Instead it was basically one item of several things like beets and lamb meatball - that you may not even enjoy - served over several hours. Will go back to MSC but not Saint Claire read more

The atmosphere is cool, one of our waitresses was really nice and the bread was warm. Unfortunately, the rest, including the food, was a big disappointment. It was a little hard to get too. The property is gated in the front so you actually need to go on a side street then take another trail/road into the property. It was pretty difficult in the dark. The smoked beats were almost tasty but not quite. The gnocchi was pan fried and looked delicious but were mushy and lacked any flavor/salt. The crab on top was cold, which was fine but unexpected. The duck confit was considerably over salted as was the ice cream and we had for desert. My husband thought the blueberry tart was just fine. I didn't have any. The person who actually served our food was as bland as the gnocchi and the front host person was nice but dressed for weekend errands. read more
