Such a great authentic Vietnamese spot for families and casual dining. My go-to is always the Grilled Beef Chop (Rib Cutlet) rice dish. Their house sauce is on the saltier side, but poured over the rice, it balances out perfectly. Oh, and I absolutely love the Vietnamese iced coffee here! And the portions? They do not play. Generous every single time. The service is what really sets Gao apart. The two gentlemen at the front are always so attentive and friendly. On my last visit, one of them remembered that I wasn't a fan of the steamed egg and pork meatloaf from a previous visit. I never mentioned it or asked for anything, he just remembered my reaction and offered to substitute it with an egg. Such a small gesture, but it says a lot. Great food, thoughtful service, and a place I'll keep coming back to! 10/10!!!

If there is a charge, restaurants usually let you know beforehand, and it is typically around $1 to $2 per cup. At this restaurant, no one clarified that there would be a charge, yet we were charged $5.50 per cup, while their actual drinks cost only $6. If we had known, we would have just ordered actual drinks instead. It is not about the amount of money. It is about transparency and honesty with customers. As for the food, it was overpriced and lacked flavor. I ordered their special Vietnamese udon (bánh canh đặc biệt), but they had the audacity to serve me Japanese udon. That is not bánh canh. Vietnamese bánh canh and Japanese udon are completely different in taste, texture, and preparation, so this was especially disappointing and felt disrespectful to a traditional Vietnamese dish. We also tried their "most popular" dish, mackerel snd fish cake noodle soup (bún cá thu chả cá), and unfortunately, it was completely bland and lacked flavor. Overall, I would not recommend this place. Between the disappointing, overpriced food and the lack of transparency regarding the charges, the experience left a very bad impression.

There are a total of 8 stations. 6 of which are savory foods, 1 dessert station, and 1 drinks station. We tried items we'd never had before and some classics. Our savory standouts were their mussels with scallions, bahn xeo (this fried savory shrimp crepe with scallions, & beans sprout), chao long (rice porridge with pork - so rich & delicious!), goi ga (insane chicken salad - has a nice lime and ginger sauce and topped with fried garlic and fried shallots. Not a salad girl at heart, but I loved this one), bahn tam bi (noodles with warm coconut cream, pork, pickled carrots+daikon, bean sprouts, lettuce, and toasted rice powder - it's savory, tangy, sweet, and herby, perfect), and their meats (chicken curry, lemongrass chicken, and braised beef). They also had a drinks station with milk tea, sweet tea, and water. For dessert, (forgive me I didn't take note of the name), we got a warm Mung bean rice pudding with coconut cream. Sweet, warm, comforting, a nice chew with the mung beans. We had some with and without the agar jelly. Both versions were excellent. The agar jelly adds another layer of texture and a coffee flavor. What a great experience. When I'm in the Tampa area, I'll definitely be back.

I visited twice, once for lunch and once for dinner, and found that the selection was pretty much exactly the same both times, The pho is only on weekends, dry noodles and meat are pre-portioned into bowls, and the broth wasn't hot enough to properly warm the meat or soften the noodles, leaving them on the dry side instead of tender...I couldn't finish my bowl The bánh xèo was nice and crispy but quite oily and only had 1-2 pieces of shrimp. Some dishes were flavorful and fresh, while others seemed like they had been sitting out for a while and weren't kept hot enough. The standout dishes for me were the rice congee, bánh cuốn, chicken wings, and the caramelized fish. Those were well done and the reason I'd consider coming back. The restaurant was clean, and the staff were attentive. Overall, it's worth trying at least once if you're curious about a Vietnamese buffet, but compared to many of the excellent Vietnamese restaurants in the Tampa Bay area, I still prefer ordering freshly made dishes over the buffet. With a little more variety, hotter food, and a few quality improvements, this place could easily be a worth the price. * Weekdays: $24/adult, kids are half price * Weekends: $29/adult, kids are half price *4 and under free

The broth here was fresh tasting, flavorful and hit just as much as the other artificially enhanced broths I've had. I added some sriracha as well as lime to further elevate the experience. It's the only time I've actually ever chosen to finish the broth after eating the noodles. Banh mi - Always been a sucker for banh mi and I came in hungry so this was the second part of my meal. Thoughts? First the pork is seasoned and cooked to perfection , in fact it might be some of the best pork I've had however my only criticism is the mayo because everything else was perfect. I had the pleasure of speaking to the owner Juan and he was very passionate about doing things the right way. He's big on health and wanted the pho to be as natural as possible , the broth itself takes about 24 hours to make and you can taste it. All the ingredients are fresh and they clearly have a high standard here. Would come again , so the question is.... You joining me ?
