I would give this place more stars but it's definitely small and loud (they had very loud house music playing so if you're with a group it may be hard to hear one another. I got the Ichiban and Essex rolls and they were tasty. They came with a side of spicy sauce, eel sauce, and the boat was super cute. I would eat here again but maybe order takeout instead.

Tokyo was really good! I ordered it for delivery on Uber eats as the hotel I was staying at didn't really have any food within walking distance and I didn't wanna Uber anywhere. The service was exceptional when my food was delivered, and they followed the directions I posted really well. I asked for my chicken to be very spicy and when I got it, there was definitely a lot of spice! While the rice lacked flavor, adding soy sauce took care of that. The eggroll was the highlight of the night and I wish I would've ordered more than one. The veggies were crisp and fresh and I definitely enjoyed the drink that I received as well. Can't wait to come back!

I was in a sushi mood today... so ordered some rolls at Tokyo for the first time! It won't be the last time... they were delicious! And service was great, as it always is!

Shrimp and broccoli with shrimp fried rice

The customer service was okay. However the food was horrible. The rice was hard and the shrimp were soggy and old tasting. Miso soup was not good either. Definitely not Authentic. The restaurant was not that appealing. We did not eat the rest of the food after taking the first few bites. What you see in the picture was thrown away. $32 Very disappointed.

This place doesn't look like much and resides on the bustling W Hillsborough, but wow do they have yummy sushi. When my usual, closer to home sushi joint stops taking delivery orders or is closing soon, I can always rely on Tokyo for backup. Tokyo is open till 11pm and better equipped to handle lots of orders, apparently. They offer a sushi-boat load of desirable maki roll choices with plenty of gluten free options. I have tried quite a few different rolls and they were all fresh, flavorful and well portioned. I have visited and waited for a takeout order and experienced very friendly staff. Highly recommend for local foodies exploring new takeout/delivery options in the Westchase/Town n Country vicinity.

Service was good but worst sushi I've ever had threw it all away, and there was a really odd smell as soon as i walked in.

I really loved the concept of small plates, which makes it fun to order a variety of dishes and share with the table. The atmosphere is lively, stylish, and perfect for a night out. That said, while the food was good, nothing really wowed me enough to make me say, "I have to come back for this dish." The biggest downside is that Taro Bar doesn't take reservations for parties of six or less, so we ended up waiting about an hour to be seated. Overall, I'd say Taro Bar is more about the drinks, vibes, and trendy atmosphere than the food. If you're looking for a fun, fashionable spot to grab cocktails, socialize, and enjoy the scene, it's worth checking out. Just be prepared to wait, especially during a busy weekend!

Each course was thoughtfully prepared, inventive, and flavorful. Service was beyond exceptional with our glasses never dipping less than half full. It was fun to watch the chef prepare our next course in front of us and I appreciated being able to ask questions and have everything explained as he went. One of the highlights for me was the caviar service (extra charge). We have never ordered caviar outright and were unsure of what we were in for but thought "Let's do it!" It was phenomenal. Light, briny, creamy and paired with panna cotta (I know, I know but trust me ) and potato churros (everyone needs these in their life). Another wow moment was the chutoro nigiri and the salmon nigiri...omg. I love cooked salmon but not normally raw salmon and so this was a complete surprise that I loved it. The chutoro, my fav tuna, has ruined me from enjoying it anywhere else. My hubs favorite bite of the night was the waygu beef sando (think grilled cheese w a piece of filet tucked inside) which was so much more that a fancy steak and cheese sandwich. Made with homemade milkbread and wrapped in a delicate Korean seaweed "wrap," he was asking for more for the rest of the meal! This experience was one for the books and highly recommended, however, be forewarned, it is super expensive. Everyone was super nice, I loved the vibe. Everything we tried was delicious. My favorites were the Uni, King Salmon, the little green crab dish, the squid soup, wagyua grilled cheese and the scallop. I loved the presentations. Some were very unique! My least favorite was the duck, I wished they had replaced that one with a seared wagyu dish, especially for the price we paid I was kind of expecting something like that. Also, was a bit disappointed we were not served tuna belly. I'm not a huge fan of tuna because there isn't much flavor. The desserts were good, but to have three as each course separately was a bit excessive. I would have rather had more seafood dishes or wagyu and one desert at the end. The wine I ordered was great and I wish I could remember the name of it. All in all this was a great experience and glad I tried it out however I think I had too high of expectations.

When your food is ready, they call your name over a microphone and you bring it to your table, which is available on a first come first serve basis. There's not really anyone working the front counter, which I thought was interesting. There's picnic tables out front where people were sitting with their dogs, so appears to be pet friendly outside. I had the curry with tofu and vegetables. I ordered spicy and enjoyed it. The heat kind of creeps up on you. I will order this again. BF had the chicken katsu - the chanko sauce was so good on it. The pickled daikon is a great touch, and if you like pickled veggies, that tiger slaw is AMAZING. We ordered a small plum wine to split. Portion sizes are HUGE, so I appreciated that everything was served in to-go containers. We definitely had leftovers that I may or may not have eaten for breakfast this morning. One thing I felt could be improved is that it's a little warm inside. Clearly they know that because there were fans on the counter. It's Florida and it's summer and their kitchen is busy in a small space, so probably the A/C is just a little overwhelmed. Great place overall.

The staff and owner were very friendly and personable and the food was even better! I'll let the picture speak for itself, but you need to come in and try it for yourself. The fish was fresh and each one was better than the other. I even loved the tamago (which they prepare in house) and I normally am not a fan of it. All the nigiri were well sized and super filling, I could have done without the dumplings and the salad, and still would have been more than satisfied. The place is also very well decorated and styled, I truly think they hit all the points with food, service, and ambience. I was excited by the great reviews on Yelp -- and was so happy that this place lived up to the hype! The fish was excellent -- fresh, well cut, super tasty. The toro was rich and delicious, the salmon and snapper fresh and pure, and as noted by others, the seasoned sushi rice with the accoutrements in the bowl (seaweed salad, thinly sliced pickled radish and carrot, and masago) made for an elevated lunch. I really appreciated the flexibility and options around my celiac disease (sushi can be tough because of the wheat in most soy sauce) -- including the kind note they attached saying the subbed some extra toro and masago for the Iburi which had been marinated in soy sauce. Lastly, I usually much prefer to eat-in for sushi (a sushi bar is my 2nd home), but really appreciate the details they put into the Uber Eats takeout package -- dressed it nice with shiso leaf and shaved radish AND have it all placed on little ice packs to keep the fish cold on their commute from the Chef's Knife to my belly. Great experience overall.
