We've been ordering from Saigon regularly for over ten years. Our go-to are the chicken pho, and the Thai basil fried rice. Sometimes we get appetizers, bahn mi, or other dinner dishes. Everything is always well prepared and seasoned. The service is great- easy to get in for a table or call in a take out order. The owners are really kind and generous people. There's no delivery, and you can't order through delivery apps, but I actually like that when I go it the place isn't crawling with food delivery drivers picking up orders. Me and my friend showed up to this restaurant when they're "supposed to" open at 11:30 hoping to have one of their bahn mi sandwiches only for them to be closed. We went to blueberry hill next door which was very mid, and after we got out Saigon was open. We had plans today and wasted time waiting for it to open only for Saigon to open after we had the most mid meal at the place next door, sucks that we could've saved time by going to a much better place that was actually open during their advertised hours. A sign on the door or an update to their Facebook page that they haven't posted to since 2013 would've been nice. I'd give 0/5 stars if I could. read more

Ok, so this is not about the food. But I was triggered anyway. Growing up my whole life and being on the spectrum I have had a sandwich phobia. Recently however after discovering the wonderful world of Bahn mi I have gotten over my terrible condition. I went home visit my parents and thought Id try Saigon restaurant because it had good reviews. When I am sure the food is good they are not opened and their advertised time. I was desperately craving a bahn mi and thought it would be open. I got there at 11 closed and then at 1130 and still closed. The lack of the restaurant being open triggered my fears of rejection and my eyes started well tears and I passed gas and screamed and ran to my car crying. I then tried calling my local Vietnamese nail salon to ask if they knew a different place but they said I was a pansy communist and it triggered me even more. Anyway this place needs to advertise the proper time it is open. read more

Not much to look at from the outside or in, but that's not the reason I always come here. The service is always prompt and very friendly. They make sure that they appreciate the fact you came there. The food. I order the same thing every time I go there. I get the shrimp balls and red curry with shrimp. Both are amazing and priced very reasonably. Next time I will try the pho. We always give a place a 2nd chance. We visited Saigon Restaurant probably 8 years ago and it was not a great experience but since we were in the area, we have decided to try them out again and this time was much better. Shrimp roll was fresh and delicious with the sweet hoisin peanut sauce, seafood pho the broth was not quite there yet. It's not as hearty and flavorful but the catfish hot pot was absolutely amazing! Sweet and savory and the sauce over rice was everything. Service was very nice and pleasant and they even cut up some oranges that was very sweet and juicy. I would visit again for the Shrimp roll and try other hot pot since the catfish hot pot was so good! read more

I'm not sure if it was the fresh mint or what this spring roll just wasn't hitting. Very fresh the peanut sauce delish nutty and sweet. I tore it open to take out the mint lol I also got the beef pho and it looks so yummy because I added more seasoning from my own cabinet. Not the best pho I've had. We're not from the area, but we were starving and happened to stumble upon this absolute gem. We started with the chicken spring rolls and pork pot stickers. The spring rolls were perfectly wrapped around with fresh, aromatic mint that elevated every the chicken flavor with every bite. The pot stickers were cooked to perfection, beautifully seared on the outside and packed with savory flavor inside. For our main course, we enjoyed the orange chicken, pho, and beef short ribs. The orange chicken was incredible, the sauce tasted homemade and far from the typical, overly-sweet "run-of-the-mill" versions you find elsewhere. The pho was simple, comforting, and spot-on, loaded with tender brisket and rich beef flavor that tasted exactly as pho should. And then there were the beef short ribs... ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! This place is so interesting because the menu is so vast. I was told to stick to the Vietnamese menu so I did -- and I'm so grateful for it. The grilled pork chop was flavorful, sweet, and tender. I could eat like 10 of them if I could. This paired with the salad and rice was a beautiful balance of flavor. But if you don't like your food too sweet, I will admit it might not be for you. The shrimp balls were really flavorful too, I didn't love that there was imitation crab meat in them but they were tasty overall. Have I had better? Yes , but would I eat these again? Absolutely lol the summer rolls were meh for me. The noodles were really over cooked and overstuffed.l, I didn't love that I also wished the peanut sauce was better. I loveeee this place. The service is fantastic. Sonny (server) is always kind and attentive and recommends excellent items. The chicken fried rice and the pho are tasty, and the chili oil added to the food ultimately elevates the flavor. But they're also great on their own. I also recommend trying a smoothie, as there are a few flavors to choose from. I've tried watermelon and strawberry, and they were both excellent. I recommend getting bean sprouts and limes on the side for the rice or pho. The inside of the restaurant is also lovely, great for a date or grabbing food with friends or family! read more

The food is really good, and we stop in for the Vietnamese coffee from time to time. However, the issue we have with this place is that every time we eat there, we have small bugs flying around our table and food, which is less than appetizing. My wife refuses to eat there anymore as it really grosses her out. read more

My rating is a 3.5 not a 3 due to a few issues. First and foremost, I order the S2: pho tai which is RARE steak. In my mind, one of the only things that can go wrong with this dish, is being brought out the wrong meat and that's kind of what occurred. I was brought a bowl with soup and 7 slices of very WELL DONE meat. Since many of the other bowls call for well done meat, I can't say wether they meant to use this for one of those or whether the steak was rare to begin with but sat in the broth too long before being brought out to me. I happen to think it's the former, since when the lady brought it to me, I had not yet been given the sides that accompany the soup (the plate with sprouts, basil, lime, and jalapeño)- which usually comes first. Additionally, 7 slices of meat, each ~3 inches in diameter, seems like very little meat which is why I think my bowl may have been intended for one of the others that comes with well done steak along with other meats, like meatballs etc. Next time, I will ask for the steak to be brought on the side to make sure it is rare and the right amount. I don't actually let it cook in the broth to well done, I cook it to about medium rare as I detest well done meat. Other slight annoyances, the prices listed on their website are unfortunately incorrect. Each item has increased by at least $1, in some cases (like the lunch special $2). I understand that due to inflation and from hardship during COVID, prices are going up, but I don't appreciate a discrepancy between what is listed on the restaurant website and what arrives on the bill. They have handwritten prices over the prior prices on their takeout menu, but need to update their website to reflect these. The website also says lunch specials are every day, yet they have a handwritten sign posted inside the restaurant that says lunch specials are Weekdays (Tues-Friday) ONLY. Again, they just need to update their website so there is no confusion regarding prices and days. As for the actual food: The base broth taste is good: 4/5 It seemed less spiced than I've had at other restaurants. I added hoisin, lime juice, and basil. You are given a ton of broth- way more than you need. Noodle amount: 3/5 I could definitely have eaten more and have received more at other restaurants Rare steak: 2/5 I did not receive rare steak. It came with only 7 small pieces. Price: 2/5 $14.95 for the bowl seems a little high especially given the amount of meat and noddles I received. I wouldn't mind paying $15 for the same amount of broth but with more noodles and more meat that is actually rare. I'm comparing this to my favorite spot in In Los Angeles (Pho Hong Long) where you can get the a bit more noodles and meat (considered a small) with more flavor for $12. I will be back, because This may have just been an off day for them. But It seems like mistakes may be a common occurrence. Before I was brought my bowl, she brought a chicken bowl to me, which I explained was not my order. It was in fact one of the other tables orders. The lady also brought out the wrong smoothie to one table. The girl had ordered pineapple but received mango. The lady brought another smoothie and asked who ordered pineapple, the girl said she did and that the smoothie she had been given was not pineapple but mango. The lady said no that's pineapple and she said no, it's mango. The lady turns to the other table and said, did you order pineapple and they said no we ordered mango and she said oh, well do you want pineapple and they said no we want mango. So then she goes back to the other table and says okay, you have the pineapple and I'll throw away the mango. I understand it's easy to make mistakes, but how she handled this was very poor customer service. She should have immediately exchanged the pineapple for the incorrect mango, when she found out she had given the wrong smoothie to the wrong person. The lady was very nice to me, but I felt badly for the table. read more

Was looking forward to this place and thought it would be a hidden gem but it was not that sadly. The pho tai was bland and meat was fatty. I tried adding hoisin sauce and a bunch of toppings but it did not fix the flavor. The shrimp spring rolls were missing something and it did not taste the same as spring rolls usually taste. They had this unusual after taste almost like dirty water and the inside of the spring roll smelled off. Not sure if they are old. The crab ragoons were very hard and stale and were not completely filled. They seemed to not be fresh and just reheated since the crab and cream cheese were formed as a ball inside since it was old. Not sure if getting my food an hour before they closed was a factor to this but i rather go to chicago for some better Vietnamese food. read more

Such wonderful tasting food and variety. This is not the first time I've been here. But it's been a long time since I've been back. I only wish it was closer. Started with the shrimp spring rolls. Paper thin rolls with noodles, shrimp & some mint leaves. So fresh and served with peanut sauce. For the main course we had two entrees: The lemon grass pork chop served with eggs, sausages & soup. You get two very tasty and tender pork chops. Also ordered the short ribs. Served on rice. Sweet and SO good. Some of the best short ribs I've ever ate. We also added some iced vietnamese coffees. Excellent food for a strip mall "dive". I took a star off for the service. Waitress delivered entree before the appetizer...a pet peeve of mine. And they ran out of chicken. But the food here is solid. The steamed pork dumplings are more reminscent of the Japanese Gyoza. The Tofu Sate is spicy and loaded with fresh veggies and tofu. Comes with plenty of white rice. The pork with glass noodles is another recommended entree. Huge portion of noodles, mixed veggies, and pork. All in all, a pleasant dining experience. Could use better coordination between server and kitchen. And there was Christmas music playing...in July. I've been here maybe 3-4 times already in the past couple of months. One of the things I wanted to find after moving to Illinois from California was good pho. I had been spoiled by the many pho places in Westminster, CA and all over the SoCal area. Most Asian restaurants out here combined different Asian cuisine into one restaurant which has been a turnoff for me. And then I found this place. I had been searching for places that serve pho and found this. The moment I read the menu and saw that it specialized in Vietnamese cuisine, I knew I had to check it out. We checked it out before watching a movie and I was not disappointed at all. The food was exactly what I was looking for. I ordered the rare steak pho had a good broth and the noodles were perfectly cooked. I had this a couple of times now. I've also ordered a few appetizers. My favorites have to be the pord potstickers and the spring rolls. The crepes were good too but it was too heavy for an appetizer. Definitely would order that as a meal. Shrimp shumai is good but I'd probably prefer they prepared it steamed instead of friend. Still good but that's just my preference. I also ordered the grilled pork lemongrass once. That's a shareable dish on it's own as there was so much food! Also the thai iced tea is one of the BEST I've ever had. The service is very good. They're very attentive and was able to accommodate. My husband wanted strawberry banana smoothie but they only had a banana smoothie and strawberry smoothie listed on the menu. They were able to make that for him. The restaurant is very small and cozy. Reminds me of all the small pho places I used to go to in California with my friends back in high school and college. All I can say is, WOW! But then Yelp does not like short reviews, so I will expand a little bit. I tried the pho, which was, in fact, quite pho-nomenal! Such a deep rich beef flavor. When speaking with the business owner, he explained how he was able to achieve such great flavor. I will not explain in detail, but it is a lengthy process that lasts through the night on into the next day. My pho contained tender-succulent slices of beef and very savory-delicious meatballs. I added in the accompanying bean sprouts, chilies, and basil and I had myself, quite possibly, the absolute best pho I have had the pleasure of experiencing in a long time. Such a nice little place operated by wonderfully friendly people. It was suggested that I try the grilled pork chop next, which I very much intend to do.
