This place most definitely made it to my list of the top worse dining experience, EVER.
How it got all these 5 stars reviews? I have no clue because the reasoning isn't at all obvious in what I've experienced and witnessed during tonight's dinner service. Justin and I drove across town for this Vietnamese restaurant due to the wonderful reviews about them. I want my time, energy, and gas money back for this horrendous trip.
This place was easy enough to find, but parking was scarce. We opted for the parking garage down the street and walked to Saigon. We arrived around 7PM. The server pointed to a table for us to sit down at. We did not get our menus instantly, so that gave us plenty of time to observe the place. There were 10 tables in this very small restaurant. Although there were a few other tables occupied, the whole restaurant was very quiet. They gave complimentary Vietnamese shrimp crackers for each table and had a tealight candle on a stand set up at each one. Every other guests' table got theirs lit out of orders throughout our visit, but never ours.
We eventually got to ordering our food and beverages. I always prefer to order in the language the server seems most comfortable with to minimize or eliminate any confusions. I spoke to our server in Vietnamese and told him we'd like to start with the Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls) followed by the Pho Bo (Beef Noodle Soup) and Mi Xao Thap Cam (Combination Fried Noodles). Tell me why...When I ordered the fried noodles, HE ASKED ME WHAT NUMBER THAT ITEM WAS...Like, why in the hell does that matter? If it were the other way around, I'd understand. But dude, I literally just told you EXACTLY what that item is. I would hope the chef would know and have heard of the dish (that's right in your menu!). I did not see water/sparkling water on the menu and asked if they charged. He told me they do charge. We went ahead and ordered one glass of water along with a cola. He left without lighting the candle at our table OR taking the menus out of our way, even though Justin was clearly holding both our menus in sight to hand over to him.
I have never in my life seen such disorganization at an establishment. More and more guests came bustling in while we waited, filling up all the remaining tables. The staff does not seem to work well together and have no set system. Some people were handed menus right away, some weren't. Same with the shrimp crackers. Same with taking orders. Same with the candles. It was chaos. The same two main servers running back and forth looking confused. The girl was about to bring out ANOTHER set of drinks for us because she didn't know it had already been brought out. She had a shocked look on her face as she stood there and stared at our table before heading to the back where I saw her gulping down the soda herself.
The people who ordered after us got their food first. Apparently it wasn't even the right dish and they tried to send it back with no success. I saw the server guy bring it back out to them again and from what I could only assume, convinced them to eat it anyway.
At this point, we have already been waiting over half an hour with only our drinks. Justin's water was halfway gone, my cola almost untouched because I did not want to fill up on soda before food. The spring rolls we ordered as an appetizer did not even come out. Until it did...to the wrong table, of yet, another patron who ordered after us. The patron once again told the server guy it's not his order, but he will just keep it anyways. This was a bit much for me at this point, so I did not hesitate to stop the server who tries rushing past our table every chance he gets. I told him we have not gotten our appetizer yet. He mumbled something as he continued to rush past me. When he came back out, I told him once again, "That guest you most likely gave our spring rolls to ordered after us. We have been waiting for a very long time." To which he replied distastefully, "He's been waiting a long time too." ...OKAY. First of all, every guests here have waited a long time due to the incompetent and snail service. The only thing they're quick at was dodging guests who needs them. I can clearly see that everyone there has waited a while. But you can't just switch up the order of things.
5 minutes later, Justin's food finally arrived. Not our appetizers. Not both our dish. Just his. I have HAD IT at this point. We got up and left. The server guy chased us while we walked down the street and said I can't just do that. Can't do what now? Leave after NOT drinking your beverage, NOT eating your food, waiting 40 minutes, and putting up with shitty service? MISS ME WITH THAT BULL.
I could care less at that point if they have the best noodles in all the land. NOTHING is worth being treated like this. read more
