I'd give this a 4.5 if I could for consistency. The pho (on a good day) is the best in the area by far. Sometimes it's watery and not as aromatic as others. Sometimes they also send two miniature pcs of basil, which don't quite do the trick when you want to add herbs to your pho. Spring rolls are dank. Super consistent and crispy. Took a trip down central Avenue to the SAIGON BISTRO. Decided to give this place a shot and it was on point. Place was small with very little tables but the food spoke for itself. We started with the fried dumplings and I ordered the grilled chicken plater and my company ordered the beef pho. I can only imagine how warming that pho is come winter time it was delicious and we will make us visit again. The service was fast and made easy. I actually went across the street to Rumba Cubana to order a Cuban sandwich after ordering my dish because I knew it wasn't going to satisfy my appitite. It's freezing out, so of course all I want is soup. Pho is one of my favorites, and I have only gotten food from Saigon Bistro once before. It seems to be one of the only Vietnamese restaurants in The Heights! I ordered online and had it ready for pick up only 15 minutes after they officially opened. I got a pho house specialty noodle soup & an order of the shrimp summer rolls. Both made for a fantastic and cozy lunch! The summer rolls were packed with veggies and 3 big shrimp each. I loved loved loved them with the peanut dipping sauce, however, without they didn't have much flavor. I would get again because together with the sauce? *chefs kiss* The pho broth was amazing and so flavorful. I am used to the meat being separated from the broth so it doesn't overcook but it did come packaged all together and it was a bit tough by the time I got home. Nice, reliable Vietnamese food in a neighborhood that doesn't have a lot of authentic Asian food. I've had their Curry Vegetable Stew lemongrass stir fry before, and both were delicious. My sister really enjoyed the tofu mushroom banh mi she had and said the bread was nice and fresh and the sauce was just the right ratio. Overall good spot. We've come here during the summer and winter, and during the summer there were a bunch of flies inside so that was annoying. No complaints when we came in winter. Will definitely be back. read more

Taste good when combined with the sauce * Pho Beef combo: round steak, brisket, meatballs, tripe, and tendon. I'd say the portion is kinda small vs the biased places that i get in Chinatown Manhattan and Flushing Queens. The ones that i get in NY are much more savory than here. The chicken stew was exceptionally wonderful. The atmosphere was delightful, with pleasant background music at a comfortable volume, lush real plants, and an adorable, friendly staff. (Beef Combo Pho: D) - The beef combo pho is the highlight pho dish will all the cuts of beef including tendon, tripe, eye round, and meatballs. Unfortunately, despite being the most complete pho on the menu, I felt that the fundamental basis of the dish, the broth was significantly underdeveloped. The flavor was light but soothing when drinking it alone, but once its added to the noodles, its diluted and too bland to taste the hard work of infusing those rich spices. Furthermore, the eye round was packaged with the broth, so it was significantly overcooked by the time it made its way to home from the takeout order. At almost $20, I felt that this dish was unfortunately not well executed in comparison to other places I've tried, although it is one of the better places in the Jersey City area. Great spot for Gluten Free/Celiac people! Never felt more safe. Did an online order of Chicken Pho (thought it was safe) and was called 2 times AND left a message by staff letting me know the chicken is marinated in gluten containing ingredients and offered the Beef & Brisket Pho instead! When I went to pick up, they triple checked the bag and confirmed again that the Beef Pho was safe for me without me even having to ask. 10/10 experience. So happy with this little place. An Unseasonably hot and steamy evening found me looking for something light and flavorful to rouse me from my torpor. I'm a big fan of the Heights, I get here a couple of times a a year. I love the OG Italian and various South American styles, but this was not the evening for that I was was just about to give up and grab an Uber down to Hoboken, when I spied The Saigon Bistro. I started with a delicate summer roll iced tea the thing to revive. And then had a luscious Pho with grilled fried steak. So tender and fragrant! I probably took an hour just to save it and embrace myself for the return. The owner, Kevin, has done an awesome job with a small space. The lighting and discrete decor along with the 100% glass front make it feel fresh, clean, and a comfy place to chat. The service is cheerfully responsive but also allows you peace and quiet. We're new to the Jersey City Heights area & this is a solid pho spot. The pho is more on the lighter end and isn't as savory as to what I'm used to back in Flushing, NY but nonetheless, still good and satisfying. The owner is so nice & staff is very attentive. I was with a party of 5 including myself and I called ahead to see if they'd accommodate us because it would be about 20 minutes before closing when we arrived and they accommodated us with no issue! Food was great, absolutely loved the pho. Also loved everything else that my friends and I shared amongst one another. It is also very small, probably about 5/6 restaurants in the whole restaurant but that's never been an issue for me so far. Ordered Pad Thai with chicken and fried dumplings. Chicken was kinda dry on the Pad Thai but it was tasty nonetheless. It was different than any Pad Thai I've ever had. This isn't about me, but since I'm often the "weird one" it's fun to be mainstream for a second, seeing my favorite item, the spicy lemongrass soup, currently holding the top spot in popularity. This was great even in the good old days, before I got Covid, and this powerful soup worked wonders both medicinally and in making it feel more like a weekend even though I can't go anywhere. I also enjoyed the sugarcane shrimp, with items including minced shrimp and pork and the unbilled but excellent sauce. We ordered: Pad Thai with chicken: 2/5 This was unfortunately not a great pad Thai that I've had....soley due to the fact that the flavor did not taste like your Regular pad Thai. To explain, the pad Thai sauce this place used tasted as if they added ketchup to it (which I don't understand why this is an ingredient at all in pad Thai). I would not get this ever again from this place, and I hope to warn anyone who wants to order this dish. The chicken they used is also sliced chicken that's usually added in pho. My prayers have finally been answered! There are just no good Vietnamese restaurants close to Hoboken, without traveling to the sketchy parts of JC. Whenever I'm craving it (which is pretty often), I always have to end up settling for the only one that's in the neighborhood. That is until Saigon Bistro. I've been meaning to try out this spot out and had the perfect opportunity on the way home from the airport. After a long flight, I was definitely not going to cook anything for dinner, so we placed an order for pickup directly through their site around 5 pm on a Sunday. It said the order would be ready in about 20 minutes and we got there right on time. The dining room is small and it was filled for a Sunday evening with lots of takeout orders on the side counter. Here is everything we ordered: Vietnamese Spring Rolls (minced pork and chicken, cellophane noodles, mushrooms, carrots, fermented house sauce) - these were just meh. It wasn't that crispy and I also prefer rice roll paper (this was spring roll paper) Spicy Lemongrass Soup (hue spices, chili oil, roasted lemongrass and shallots, beef, brisket, and meatballs) - I absolutely LOVED this. The broth was everything and they give a pretty big portion of meat. Even my husband, who doesn't like lemongrass, liked this soup. It was definitely comforting after a long day of traveling. Shaken Cubed Steak (cubed-beef, butter, garlic, peppers, onions, salt and pepper, served with jasmine rice) - SUPERRRR salty and a little too oily Classic Banh Mi (Viet cold cuts, fresh toasted baguette, liver pate, mayonnaise, cilantro, pickled carrots and daikon) - good meat to veggie ratio. The bread was fresh but could have used a pop in the toaster oven before they assembled it Since we always over order for two people, we had leftovers for lunch the next day.
