Overall it's an ok place. I was missing more flavor like I've had in other Vietnamese restaurants. The spring rolls tastes blend and a bit soggy. 3.5 stars, but I'm feeling genny today. In all fairness, the House Combination Beef Pho was just what I needed while I was suffering from my....third ()....cold of the season. It came loaded with soft cuts of brisket, tripe, tendon, and beef balls, but I was mostly focused on the flavorful broth, which was what my poor, brutalized throat really needed. I'll be honest, I'm not familiar with Vietnamese food, so any comparison is unfair. This is just my experience. My wife and I came in on a frigid Sunday night and sat at the bar. We tried their version of a coffee martini and asked make the Bai Bac Beach mocktail as a cocktail with vodka. Both drinks were not bad. The bartender/waiter is very nice and friendly. We ordered Fried pork spring rolls, sweet potato fritters with shrimp, thin vermicelli with grilled beef rolls and red rice grill beef short ribs with red rice. The good: both beef dishes were delicious. We didn't really like the red rice, it was similar to brown rice buy with less flavor. The OK (not bad): the pork spring rolls were a little greasy and I didn't really like the flavor. The sweet potato fritters were OK, but it tasted like regular potatos, not sweet potatos. So, will I return, probably not. I'll need to try other vietnamese food locations to properly compare. read more

The service was lovely. The staff was attentive and kind. We used to come here often with the previous owners so with the change of hands, the whole experience is entirely different. Everything looked the same, the decor including the bar area was familiar. The menu, however, was pared down but they had the usual suspects so that's what we went with. The cha giò was excellent! Super crunchy and FULL of meat! I could eat a million of those! The whole fried flounder, though, did not hit the spot. It was fried well but it wasn't as fresh as I like and had a fishy flavor. The accompanying sauce wasn't what we expected. Typically when we order pan-fried flounder, we expect their ginger sauce to also contain scallions and cilantro. Off the bat, you can tell the interior is cleaner and updated, and there's even a Happy Hour menu offered (including weekends!). Food is average but satisfying, and a bit pricey but expected for the area. The menu is not as large as other Vietnamese restaurants, but it has the most popular items you could ask for (pho, bun bowls, rice dishes etc.). Super crispy and fresh. We had the summer rolls and spring rolls as well. The spring roll was pretty good and full of meat. The summer roll was not nearly as good however and I usually like the summer rolls over the spring rolls. We also had the fried marketplace fish which was flounder that day. You can choose between two sauces. The waitress recommended the ginger sauce, but that sauce was very light and was lacking something. Otherwise the fish was delicious. We tried the Bon Bo Hue soup. It was okay it did not seem as flavorful as other places I am used to in Maryland. The deserts here seemed pretty good especially the pan dan pana catta. Do not EVER EVER come here! Their portions are so small. I'm Vietnamese and I've ate Pho all over the place. Their Pho menu is not big, you only got one option for some beef pho. Ok fine so I'd order their only beef combination pho which basically is a Pho đac biet which supposedly come with all the beef, tripe, and tendons but let me tell y'all the portion is so small it's like highway robbery for $17 more like a snack not much noodles or meat. They are located in downtown Jersey City close to the Holland tunnel so maybe the rent is high but you can't serve portions like that no one will ever comeback. As a Hungry vegetarian I came here. It is very close to the park and it is good to see another restaurant opening up around here to fill the void which I feel helps give residents another option. I came here on a Sunday evening to have a meal. I was happy to see they were vegetarian options. The place is packed and full of lots of families in big groups. Pork special had 1 pork versus NTH's 2. Spring rolls were delicious and came with 4 pieces versus NTH's 8. They were thick and meaty and could have easily been portioned as 8. Beef cubes were ok. House tea was extra $ versus being complimentary at NTH. Service 5/5: Awesome. They have a great, attentive team. Kudos! Ambience 3.5/5: Bathrooms were the same. The service is attentive and pretty quick. We were seated relatively quickly right before the dinner rush. The staff is also extremely kind. I always judge how good a place actually is based on their spring rolls. It's so easy to mess up but The Corner Pho made it perfectly. It was stuffed and fried to perfection. Was not too heavy or oily. We also got our other favorite, the summer rolls. The peanut sauce was a great consistency (I really hate when it's watered down). The Bun Bo Hue lacked a bit of flavor but one can argue that it's not as heavy as other places. I actually really enjoyed it and it really hit the spot. The space is definitely modernized a bit from the days of New Thanh Hoai. It doesn't have the typical tables with green tablecloths under glasstop adorned with all types of sauces and Euro-pop music playing in the background...only Sriracha and Hoisin sauce are available as condiments. He's been here before and got pho last time but said the bowl was not as big as the former residents and the price was more expensive. When we got our dishes, there was maybe one grilled chicken breast cut into pieces over a bed of rice with a couple slices of tomatoes and cucumber and a small bowl of fish sauce. I knew right away, this wasn't going to be filling by itself...maybe we should have gotten some spring rolls too. The dish wasn't bad at all but I just wish there was more of it. When it came time for the bill, our waiter came over and told us how much we owed but there was no paper bill...everything was done on portable electronic devices. For what we ordered, it came out to $37.xx!! Didn't realize that the fried rice substitute was an extra $3.50 for some added soy sauce and frozen veggies mixed in with the rice. Sorry...but that's just ridiculous. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be back again even to try their pho. I saw another patron who ordered a bowl and that didn't look filling either.
