So I had to see for myself what was drawing all these people in. William welcomed me when I walked in, asked what I normally read, and let me know there was an upstairs as well, with more books. I did just stay on the first floor this visit, but I was so impressed by their beautifully curated inventory. They carry a wonderful selection of new fiction, poetry, children's books, and used books, along with fascinating sections on art, music, and nonfiction. They even had a discount section with books priced at $3.98 or less, which is incredible! They also have dedicated topic tables that highlight local North Carolina authors and underrepresented voices, which is wonderful to see. I found some board books to donate to the Little Free Library I was at the other day. If you've been reading my reviews for a while now, you know I love history and the architecture of older buildings being reused. It is an inclusive store, so everyone is welcome. It is a community-owned cooperative bookstore. The 1915 building, originally home to Merchants Bank, was built after the 1914 fire in Durham. It is a Neoclassical Revival-style building with massive, majestic Ionic columns that define its street-facing storefront. It later became Hood Industrial Bank and was then used for businesses like Letters. Letters opened back in 2013 at a nearby location and moved into its current space in 2021. I wish I had gone to the second floor to see the stained glass ceiling. So that just means I will need to make another shopping visit. I need to give myself more time so I can find something for me to read next time.

I saw Olivia Muenter speak about her new book Little One, and the seating and organization of the whole event was handled flawlessly. I thought it was very kind of the event to offer free tickets in addition to tickets that came with a copy of the book, as I had preordered from another store. I appreciated the consideration, and it made me want to stock up on other books from them. I didn't have any issues with parking at all- I got a spot in the large lot right out front. I was also able to choose from a variety of options for quick dinner stops before my event. All in all, a great addition to North Hills!

They share space with The Lemon Tree in part of the second room to the store. The store is in the Renaissance Plaza Center near the Renaissance Centre and bowling alley. Since there is a sidewalk, you can walk from one place to the other easily. There is generally plenty of free parking in the parking lot unless an event is happening. When you enter, there is a ramp inside the store to take you smoothly down into the main book displays. The children's section is in the front section. Other genres are clearly labeled throughout the store. Don't miss the second half of the store in the other room. The bookstore is locally owned and has a large, knowledgeable staff, so you will always find someone friendly and willing to help you navigate the shelves. Personally, I love that the store features banned books, as I always want to read what they don't want me to read! I like the staff picks too and reading their thoughts on a book. I appreciate that local authors are highlighted here. On my last visit, I was thrilled to score a signed copy of a local author's book that is only sold at Page 158 Books. I also got another book not normally in my genre for a more fun read. Page 158 Books has book clubs, author signings, and other events. Back when they were on White Street, they had coloring nights and brought the community together and introduced me to the store. It is a great local bookstore!

They were great with giving recommendations to two teenagers who were t sure what they're wanted. They didn't rush them and answered all their questions. They were also honest when I asked about a book they didn't have in stock. She said they could order it but she couldn't guarantee that it would be in when I needed it but. I didn't end up ordering the book bc it's being given as a gift. But our group (me, 2 teens and a preteen) left with 5 books, a pin and a patch. I also got a reward off my next purchase! None were in stock, but the kind staff ordered them for me (3x of one ... they were like are you sure? yeah!) and everything arrived in less than a week! While I'm picking them up, there is interesting shopping to be done here. The staff is kind and attends to their duties. I got a phone call about all the books right on time. They tossed some Regulator Bookshop bookmarks in there, which some of my recipients will enjoy and some will wonder about.

When you arrive parking is tough in this area as it is near Moore square. I'd recommend parking a couple blocks away and walking or parking in a nearby garage. Walking in the book/coffee shop feels inclusive, cozy, and vibrant/community focused. There's also a section of banned books which is great to see and really highlights the progressive bookshelves. For coffee I ordered the Banana Pudding Latte which has banana puree and nilla wafers. It was so refreshing to order this iced on a hot day and the banana flavor wasn't overpowering. This shop is nestled into the small streets of DT Raleigh in a charming way, like a corner in Diagon alley. It's walking distance from a park and many eateries. Fun, curated collections of books and zines that we really appreciated. My hot oat matcha latte was delicious and so was my amazing cheddar scone. The baristas and owner were incredibly nice and friendly. It set the tone for a great day in DT Raleigh.

The sales associate ASSURED me NO, there is no charge or fee. After the trial is over they will mail you a card asking if you'd like to continue the subscription and only at that time would you have to make payment if you chose to continue to receive the magazines. I never received said card and never thought I agreed to be charged for a subscription I didn't really want!! I am now having to go through the trouble of canceling subscriptions AFTER they have already charged my bank which B-A-M gave them the information too. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED I was mislead and lied to.

The staff did seem to keep to themselves, if you are looking for a spot you will not be bothered and left to roam on your own this is the spot . There are some older books for great value however new books are same price as elsewhere but great way to support your local business.
