Good Food, But A Huge Odor Of Meat...
My wife and I, along with 2 long-time couples/friends, started our 18 day vacation with a 4 night stay in Amsterdam. Sagardi was across a canal from our hotel, the Ambassade, so that's where we went for our first dinner.
- Overall: 4
- Location: 5 (depends where you're staying)
- Food Quality: 4 (less oil in the salad and brown in the seafood soup would help)
- Food Quantity: 5
- Service: 5
- Menu: 4
- Price and Value: 5
- Atmosphere: 3
- Menu: 3
Pros:
- Food Quality: Everyone in our group of 6 seemed satisfied with their meals. I started with a salad of fresh lettuce, sliced onions and an oil based dressing...emphasis on the oil. That was followed by a large bowl of Seafood Soup with several small pieces of fish - mainly shrimp - in a dark broth. It was very good, but I wondered why the liquid was dark brown. I added an order of house fries which were the best part of my meal.
- Food Quantity: Excellent portions for the price
- Service: Top notch...once it got going. We arrived at 6 PM, sat down with menus...but nobody walked over until we finally flagged someone at 625 PM. Fortunately, from then until we left at 8 PM, servers were on the mark.
- Menu: Mixed. It's about 50-50 fish versus meat which isn't bad for a vegetarian...but the smell of meat hung over the room like a damp cloth.
- Price and Value: Excellent. Good sized portions with lower than expected prices.
Cons:
- Atmosphere: A little claustrophobic. It's not a small place, but the heavy scent of meat caused this pescatarian to hold his breath.
- Menu: Although there were several fish dishes, the overall menu is limited compared to what you typically find in the US.
There are tons of restaurants in Amsterdam, but if you're in the neighborhood near Sagardi, it's a solid choice.....especially for fans of meat. read more
