What is wrong with the management here Super Bowl Sunday and they have three checkers open literally 50 people waiting in lines

I live up the street and cant even walk here for one item because I'll wait in line for 30 minutes. It's quicker to get in my car and drive to another grocery store. Always so frustrating walking in here and immediately seeing the lines down the isle. They can solve this problem by adding a self checkout - simple fix! read more

Never have I felt such need to write a review. I wish I could complain about the grounds, or the size of the store, or even compliment the staff but unfortunately none of those apply to me. My complaint is strictly for the person who manages this business. I ask the manager, have you ever in your life written an effective schedule? Do you know what it looks like to schedule based off a business trend? Better yet is your scheduling needs met by hiring based off business trend?! This store is by far the most pathetic store I have ever set foot into. I moved here in February and every time I try to shop in this store due to the sheer convenience of it's location to my home I am continually disappointed. Every single time there is two lanes open at check out with no other employees in sight and then when one of the two clerks finally looks off their registers and recognizes people are dropping their items in the isles and leaving they will summon another clerk. You've got to be kidding me. It's so awful that I want to volunteer to make your schedules for you. Schedule to your business, maybe then you'll make some money. Until then I would rather pay more and go to whole foods or travel out of my neighborhood to another location. Customers if you have at least 30 minuets to kill sure come shop here and wait in line, I guarantee not one express lane will be open and you'll have the opportunity to read at least one magazine without purchasing. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. The store is a time warp from the 60's. It's service is awful. Lines are horrendous and the isles are so tight you need to gyrate your cart to get through. read more

Some of the meanest and grumpiest employees around. And why should I have to carry a credit card size card around to get the discounts? Most of the time I forget my card, so they have to look it up by phone number, but I haven't updated that in a while, so they can't find it, so they tell me to go to the customer service counter when I find my card so I can get the discount, but I never get around to it, since I'm to busy doing other things. I will just take my business elsewhere, thank you very much. read more

Like any ordinary Safeway but its great that its 24hrs because after some drinks at Dans Sportsbar we wanted some ice cream sandwiches and came here to fill our craving. The guys even bought more beer for the night since they only got to dans for the last 30 mins =P read more

Worst lines ever. Employees do not see the lines and have no back up checkers. Every time I come in, the lines are blocking the aisles and it takes at minimum 15 minutes, just to stand in line. Unbelievable. Safeway, you are better than this. Extremely disappointed. read more

this has by far got to be the worst safeway i have ever seen. i've been stopping into this location for years after work usually after 10pm. at the beginning everyone seemed pretty young and had as much fun as they could. at times an occasional random yell or shout out on the store speaker could be heard but i just thought this place was very laid back. throughout the years not too much has changed until now as it seems they had a complete employee turnaround. don't want to sound rude but where did they bus these new people in from?!! now the staff is sooo ghetto it's ridiculous. ok it's downtown walnut creek but you would never know from the new hires they have now. it looks as if the store is now in a bad part of oakland, martinez or concord. many times as i pull into the lot you can see a group on employees maybe on a break smoking cigarettes outside a car in a spot right in front of the store. sure i shop late night but it seems most people do these days! i know safeway has shoppers and i so wanna know how they score. it can't be good. usually there is only one person checking and even when a line forms it's rare they will even call a person from night crew to help. one of the checkers even has many visible tattoos, not pretty ones at that and many missing teeth. definitely not a smile i want to see from a girl in year early 30's! these days i stop by the crow canyon safeway in san ramon. it's huge, clean and the staff is friendly and have teeth! lol read more

Safeway - Grocery Near Me - Walnut Creek, California

Horrible. Slowest more poorly managed Safeway I've EVER been in. They never EVER have enough checkers. They never ever call anyone up and the checkers talk to each other like we aren't even in line. I'd rather go somewhere else and pay more for the efficiency and professionalism. I only come here anymore for the Starbucks and my monthly prescription. Horrible. Do NOT waste your time. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Just in time for the holidays, Safeway provided me with the worst, rudest and most unhelpful experience in a matter of minutes. I called Safeway asking if they could simply tell me if they sold a magazine I was looking for. The operator transferred me to Starbucks because they worked right next to where the magazines are. The woman working at Starbucks answered. When I asked her if she could tell me if they sold the magazine I was looking for she replied with 'NO. I don't work near the magazines. Can't help you!' I hung up. I was shocked at her incredibly rude tone and called back. The operator picks up, I tell her that the Starbucks employee didn't want to help me, so she transfers me to Paul the assistant manager. I asked Paul the same question, if they sold a magazine, he replied with 'I don't know.' Wow. I mean really. Wow. So I went myself to Safeway and they did not carry the magazine I was looking for. If you want something done, do it yourself everyone, because the Safeway employees certainly won't help you. Happy holidays! read more

From now on , after 7:30, going to Whole Foods . Safeway : No checkers . 2 checkers and two lines with over ten people. Checker asked 2 x for help. With the prices we pay , I'll just go elsewhere and it will make matters worse. When will management understand that cutting hours will cut customers and so on... read more

Sadly they don't give a rat ass to their customers. I do my groceries at 9pm during week, huge lines with only two cashiers, they see the mess, they see they could add more cashiers or be more flexible, but they don't care. read more

The worst Safeway in America. Small store. Limited selection. Never more than 2 checkers working. Guaranteed 20 minute in and out time, no matter how few items you came for. read more

This Safeway NEVER has enough registers open! Really frustrating when you only have a couple items and the lines are down the aisles.

Overall not a great Safeway. Lines are very long and parking can be tough at lunchtime. Other than that the employees are friendly.

This Safeway doesn't have a lot going for it other than its convenience. It has a Starbucks and a pharmacy and is open really late, which are nice amenities, but makes the grocery part of the store smaller and therefore, has less stock. The employees are scare but usually if you can hunt one down they give relatively helpful answers to any questions. Many of the cashiers have been working there for awhile which means they are more friendly towards each other than other customers. I try to avoid this grocery store, especially since there are others close by that I'd rather go to. However, it is convenient for last min trips. read more

The manager Danny Rodgers gathered he affected people together so this matter can be resolved. It did take a while to get us all in one room as it was challenging with the everyone's availability. Nevertheless, I appreciated and accepted Brenda's sincere and heartfelt apology. Had the apology been less than what I received, it would have been escalated. I am just glad to finally have this behind me so I can go back to shopping there. read more

Hire more staff. This place is ridiculous. EVERY TIME. The manager should be embarrassed about the lines.

It's a surreal experience to be at a Safeway - a chain I grew up and have always had positive experiences with - where the staff is slow, frustrated, and unhelpful. For this particular location, I never cease to be amazed at how long it takes to check out. And while waiting an unreasonable amount of time is one thing, there was an occurrence where a clearly stoned manager snapped at me for my facial expression. Not kidding. read more

This place always has ridiculous lines. I try to shop trader joe's just to avoid the lame wait. Either put in self check out lanes or more checkers. read more

The Safeway in Walnut Creek has terrible wait and service. When I asked if they could open another lane... They claimed low staff. Really? It's Saturday! read more

Long lines all day every day. Never more than 2 registers open. Hope you planned an one hour trip to the grocery store for that sour cream. Worst Safeway on the planet. read more

Literally the worst grocery store I've ever experienced. And I've lived in Minnesota, North Dakota, Colorado, Florida, Utah, and California. Therefore, I've been to a wide variety of grocery stores coast to coast. I have been to this store probably 5-7 times and the story never changes. RIDICULOUSLY LONG CHECK OUT LINES AND ONLY A FEW CHECK OUT STANDS OPEN. It will take you at least 30 minutes just to pay for your groceries. Whoever manages this store should be fired. The level of incompetence is mind boggling. I think an infant would manage it better. Overall, the employees of this store have a bad attitude (probably related to poor management) and it will take you half the day to pay for your groceries. Tip of the day! DONT SHOP HERE. read more

This Safeway sucks.I live up the street, so trust me. I know, it's just a grocery store, but it sucks. Almost all of the people working there look like they really don't want to be there, many are rude ( I actually had a girl worker there tell me my shirt was too low cut in front of a LINE of people. I was furious and complained. Luckily I haven't seen her there since) and pretty inefficient. Don't go there on any night of the week if you don't want to wait in line FOREVER. You'd think after constantly being understaffed every night of the week they'd staff more people, but no-everytime it's the same, and don't even think about going there on Friday or Saturday nights. They usually have about 2 checkstands open. SO AGGRAVATING when all i want is a pint of ice cream!!!!!!! As for the store itself, it's fine...never had a problem finding what I need or whatever. It's just the general service that SUCKS. Nevertheless, i still have to go there since it's the only grocery store in town besides Whole Foods and Trader Joes, are more specialty grocery stores. read more

Continually the worst Safeway I've ever experienced. There are a few hard workers but it can't make up for the overall experience you get 99% off the time. Long lines no help no product out....I usually drive over to Bancroft. Always worth the drive read more

is here everyone quitting next week? thats the impression you get walking round. god help you if you don't know where something is. god help you if you want something from the deli counter without having to wait like 20mins. whats the deal here? the vons i went to in san diego was awesome; helpful; always stocked; and the staff were actually nice to you; oh yea and there weren't always like 2 cashiers checking out the entire store with massive lines, even when the strike was on! there is never any baggers, which i dont care about too much since im able bodied, but they serve a purpose to speed up your time in the line and all that stuff. the staff seem really pissed about *something*, or they really are quitting next week and just don't give a fuck. it's not me either, cuz on various trips there i've seen people complain to the manager. dude whoever it is hire some more people! read more

For being an affluent area this Safeway's makes me feel like I stepped in a time machine that transported me back in time and relocated me to the Midwest. It's in desperate need of a face lift to say the least. The people there are odd, but with that being said it's Safeway and you will find what you need there. I went in spontaneously to get my son and his friend a frozen pizza and was pleased to see they had a Redbox there because I needed to rent a movie. I quickly got the movie, grabbed the pizzas and found lines at all checkout stands. Maybe I've been shopping at Whole Foods too long, lol. Although, I must say the people and Safeway in Lafayette is much better. I'm not too picky when it comes to Safeway's though because pretty much all Safeway's carry the same things so the people are not really an issue. Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in. read more

They have the GROSSEST bathrooms I have encountered in a long time. Two check-stands open for 15+ customers. Annoying.

Their sandwich department is terrible. I went there during my lunch hour and ended up standing in line for about 20 minutes even though there were only 2 people ahead of me the whole time. There were only two people behind the counter that looked like they could've been in their 70's or 80's. They both moved incredibly slow and were having trouble hearing and finding condiments on the counter. After waiting patiently my turn, I finally ordered my sandwich with only half my lunch hour left. I had to tell the lady two or three times what sandwich I wanted and walk her through one by one what condiments I wanted on my sandwich. Extremely frustrated, I told her to just wrap up the sandwich as is. She looked up, confused, and asked me what was wrong. I just smiled and said that I wasn't going to have time to eat anymore. She apologized and then proceeded to ask me what else I wanted on my sandwich. Although I sort of felt sorry for the poor old people that were made to work at the busiest time of day for sandwich-making, I was very unhappy that I had to wait that long for a sandwich with just two people ahead of me. I will never go back to that Safeway, especially to get a sandwich. read more

Very cowardly Safeway each time I go in there it take me 30 mints in the Line they have 10 cashier register and two is working all the time .15 to 20 people waiting in the line all the time fucking a poor customer service very very very disappointed and expensive store I rather burn my money but will not go to that store read more

Have you been to this store? If so you know not to go back. Always Long lines and old crappy store. I wish someone would buy Safeway and close this store. It's an embarrassment to their brand. I used to like going to this Safeway a lot because it is close my home and I knew everybody. I give two stars to the new manager whom I do not know yet, but I witnessed that he is very friendly and professional. He shake hands with employees, wishing them a great Christmas. As we know, previous manager, Jacklyn, was a joke. But what I am unhappy about is that all familiar faces are gone! Beth from Starbucks got transferred and she was a doll. Well, I will give another star for Emily who came back to Starbucks! She is outstanding and makes the best coffee. Many people from Seafood /Meat Department changed, lots of cashiers are gone, lots of new and unknown people. Jose is still there in Bakery and of course our JULIE! Everybody knows JULIE, she is the nicest employee ever! Please, do not transfer more people! The lines are long and we need them! read more

Worst Safeway I've ever been to. No self checkout and the lines are long no matter what time of day. The cashiers and baggers are always chatting, which dramatically slows down the line. To top it off, last time I shopped there the bagger blatantly picked his nose right in front of me and then asked if I wanted paper or plastic. I literally lunged and grabbed my groceries before he could touch them with his dirty hands! So gross. Bag your own stuff here!! read more

No matter what time of day or night I come here the lines are ridiculous. You need to accept that the amount of shoppers you have coming in here warrants at least one more cashier. This is the closest Safeway I live too. Unfortunately it sucks. It's too small to carry the produce and products I normally buy. Also it's constantly out of the gift cards I buy for work. The workers are great, reason for 2 stars. Everything else is disappointing. read more

The MOST DISGUSTING Safeway in the whole district. The bathrooms are awful with sewage smell and pee all over the floor. The employees seem like they are depressed because it is such a depressing environment. Do something about this corporate @safeway , or shut tho Safeway down ! read more

Simply put, this is the worst Safeway I've ever been to. It's small, cramped, and always a combination of busy and short-staffed. Even with a handful of items and the express lane, expect to wait 10 minutes or more to check out. Maybe they just don't have enough employees? After work and on weekends there always seems to be 3 or 4 cahiers for a store that gets a TON of traffic. Automated checkouts would be a huge help here. Unless you're in a serious hurry, it's worth it to drive to another local Safeway for your groceries. read more
