Their cakes are really fresh and tasty. I placed an order for a party. The pick up time was 4:00. I arrive at 3:58. No one is in the bakery department so I wait, and wait. I can be a very patient person. At 4:15 A line is starting to form so I call the bakery department hoping someone in back will pick up. No one did and after 7 mins. It transferred to the front desk and I explained the situation. The lady on the other end said, "ok I will be back there as soon as I can." At 4:34 the lady I spoke to arrives and says, "who was here first?" I say, "I was." She goes, "Are you the one who called me?" I look at my phone and say, "yes over 19 mins ago." The store posts prices that you can't get without jumping through stupid hoops. Oh, you want to pay $2.47 instead of $5.99? Just download this huge app, scan the shelf tag?? (unclear how to do that), search the menu for tiny photos of vague matches? I had to ask an employee for help to buy ice cream. Just ridiculous. Thoroughly unpleasant experience. Safeway /Albertsons/whoever were already getting all my shopping data with my Safeway club card. What good does it do for the store to frustrate me so much I'm reluctant to come back? A rep posted a reply but I really don't want help with the app; I want to get out of the new hoops. I'm OK with sharing my data, but they make it too hard with all the searching and scanning. If you are from the area or an area that has a Safeway, you are probably familiar with this grocery store chain. Yes, it has what I need to survive. Add five stars. If I don't use the Safeway app or the computer to click the "Just for You" savings coupons of what I might buy that day or even the "Not just for you" savings coupons, then I'll pay higher prices. I HATE coupons. Of course, it is tracking everything that I purchase, and surprise next week I'll have a coupon Just for Me. I feel so special. Minus four stars. I do earn gas points based on the dollar amount that I spend during the month, which was worthless for this town (no Safeway gas here) until they partnered with Chevron. Plus one star. A week ago Monday I placed an order for 2 floral arrangements to be picked up on Saturday. I was a bit concerned when placing the order as the attendant seemed to be just making random notes on a piece of paper and was bit confused when I said I wanted it to be Wa-Hi themed. Wednesday that young lady called to tell me she could not fill my order because she did not have equipment to put together one of the requested arrangements and replied in the negative as to whether I could get just 2 regular arrangements. I was fairly incredulous in my response as it would seem to me that selling flower arrangements would be a pretty significant part of her job. Responding to my incredulity she replied that I was to not get angry with her or, if I did, she would not assist me in getting help with another store (like I needed her help to do that). It was truly one of the most bizarre encounters I've had in a while. read more

This is a pretty middle-of-the-road Safeway. It has everything that most Safeways have, including a Starbucks, a deli, a bakery, a flower shop, a fish market, a meat market, fresh produce and a pharmacy. It does not have a children's play area, a movie theater, a restaurant, or a bowling alley. Well, I suppose you don't really expect to find those. There are two Safeways in Walla Walla and this one is far superior to the other one. The only advantage the other one has is that it is close to downtown Walla Walla. The employees here are always friendly. Now that Safeway includes Chevron stations in its gas rewards program in Washington State, the shoppers in Walla Walla can use the program without having to drive 50 miles to the closest Safeway gas station. read more

I'm sad to say that I probably won't be shopping at this or any other Safeway as long as they continue to have ridiculous measures in place like one way isles and enter at one end of the store only and exit on the other end and don't forget limiting the amount of people in the store. Do you actually think that solves anything?? Absolutely not! Safeway - Floral arrangement - Grocery Near Me - Walla Walla, Washington

It's very hard for me to give any grocery store in town more than 3 stars, as I end up having to travel to almost all of them to complete my shopping. It's also hard for me review any grocery store in town without launching in to a critique of the food supply system and monster corporations in the United States. I will steer clear of this discussion, as Walla Walla doesn't have true alternative (grocery store-wise) to "alternative" types of shopping experiences. Just know that when I review grocery stores here in Walla Walla, this is always in the back of my mind, and read between the lines. HAVING SAID ALL OF THIS... This is the larger of the two Safeways in town, and of the two, is also slightly nicer. The niceness has to do with having more selection than in the other one. (Fortunately, Safeway has not used this larger space to not simply give us more of the same thing, like twice as much of the exact same soft drinks, for example!) The service from grocers in Safeway (both here and on Rose Street) is hands down the best here in town. It's obvious they're mandated to say hello to you in the isles, but it still feels nice. I do still dislike that they try to call you by name by reading your name of your credit card or Safeway card (someone explain to me why these cards are truly necessary again?) when you're at the register, but at least they when they do, it's with a "Mr." or "Ms.". (A kind of politeness that seems to have been obliterated from retail in day and age). If you're in the "take doughnut to work" crowd, Safeway has the best doughnut selection of all the grocery stores in town. Don't bother looking elsewhere. As for other grocery selection... it's a lot of standard fair. The Safeway corp seems to be making some snail's pace inroads in to the organic foods market, and I suppose at least they're trying. Produce selection is fair, but I have several funny stories about things they've messed up with their produce at this location. Use caution with their "Asian" section. On several occasions, I've had to point out to them that the items on their shelves are expired! Still, this Safeway probably has the best Asian section of all the grocery stores in town. read more

The people in this pharmacy are wonderful every time I have gone there to get prescription drugs they are more than helpful.The other day I went on a Saturday and did not realise the pharmacy closed early because the shutters were down but I needed my drugs urgently as I was in pain,I tapped on the shutter and explained my situation and the girls who both kindly went to great lengths to open up the till and to supply me with my drugs because they understood my situation, I think this is wonderful customer service! read more

I will preface this by saying that I went shopping today with my WIC checks. Yes, I know everybody hates WIC, and now everyone thinks I'm the scum of the earth. I'm not milking the system, I am the system. The WIC checks don't belong to me, they belong to children who are in the system from no fault of their own. This being said, I don't tell this story every time I use the WIC checks, and I get some dirty looks, or poor service when I do use them. I take it all in stride, because generally I don't care much what people think of me, good or bad. Today, I had a very humiliating experience at this particular Safeway. I was using WIC checks, and the cashier seemed inclined to point that out to EVERY other customer who might step in line behind me. As if it isn't evident by itself, she had to mention it to everyone. Then, and item that I buy regularly on WIC rang up as "not a WIC item". So I went to replace it, though they didn't have enough of the other brand in stock to replace it with. I then looked the original item up in the current WIC shopping guide, and it was right there, picture and all. The cashier, however, had NO inclination to look into it or make it right. Yes, I'll probably shop there again, but I may think twice. Thankfully, we have multiple grocery stores to choose from, and I will likely not be back to that one for a while. read more

This review is for the Plaza Way Safeway. Overall, and considering that Safeway has a near-monopoly in Walla Walla, this branch does a good job. Even during the busiest times, waiting time to check out is reasonable. Checkers are friendly and efficient, although not always well trained on the rules of the Just 4 You system. If you have to ask for customer service to correct an error, it will take a bit of time, but at least in my experience, the general attitude seems to be that the customer is always right. Selections of produce, meats & seafoods, specialty items, frozen foods, ethnic foods, and general groceries are excellent. (Do we give credit as often as we should to the amazing variety American consumers have available to us? Having spent time in other countries, I think not.) The wine selection is really outstanding, as it should be in Walla Walla. The flower shop is very nice, although I haven't used it for custom work, so can't speak to that. I also haven't used the pharmacy. It's hard to tell what's caused it, but meat prices have taken a big leap in the last couple of years. Whether that's because Albertson's is now a sister store rather than a competitor, or because prices generally have risen that much, I don't know, but it is less common than it used to be to find good "on sale" prices on a regular basis. The Just 4 You program is a boon, but it's unreliable. If you carefully plan your shopping trips and study the Just 4 You coupons, you can save quite a bit of money (in the hundreds per year, if you shop for a family) but you really have to watch the checkout like a hawk, and it's almost impossible to tell while the checkout is in process whether you're getting all the savings you are entitled to. I use the system heavily and plan trips carefully, and I find one or more mistakes on my receipt almost every other visit, most for amounts that don't make it worthwhile to wait for customer service to correct. This Just 4 You problem is not the fault of the checkers or the local branch, but the IT system. I don't know whose fault it is that sale items, especially in the meat and seafood department, are often not available. Especially when you've carefully planned a shopping list to take advantage of a $10 off on $50 coupon, it can be a real annoyance to find two or three of the items you were planning to buy unavailable. But overall, you can get your shopping done here comfortably and economically with a bit of effort. read more

I am pretty grossed out by this... I was sitting in the parking lot eating some D.Q. near closing time when I see a employee walk outside with one of the grocery carts and start loading up the outside garbage into it. The very thing you load your vegetables and fruits ALL OF YOUR FOOD INTO! I could tell this was a random cart with all the advertisements on it and not one they use every night not to be used for this purpose only. Worst pharmacy service. The customer service is ridiculous. They don't check the fax line for prescriptions, so be sure to call ahead. Don't use them if you can at all avoid it. While standing in a line 10 people deep, the pharmacy tech called her friend up to the front because she saw friend's prescription was ready. So was mine and I'm sure most everyone else in that line. So rude. When I declined to purchase a prescription bc of price, she glared at me even though as she rang it up she said "it's spendy." When I asked her why did they not call to let me know the medicine was very expensive for a small tube (over $150) she said well we are just too busy. I said well I could have called the pediatrician when the office was open to ask for a substitute & now the office is closed. No response. The prescription fill & wait time - 4 hours.
