Open on Christmas day--that's handy (even if it sucks for the employees). I had to make (count 'em) *three* trips here on Christmas day due to poor planning and an unforseen issue arising. They were open each time (from 8am to 5pm, for the record). They had a wide selection of things, including some relatively unusual items (believe it or not, they were: peanut oil (first trip); Martinelli's (including some flavors I had never seen) (second trip); non-iodized sea salt (without calcium cilcate or any other additive (really hard to find)) and a shot glass (third trip)). They were the only grocery store open in the Walla Walla Valley today (not Andy's, not Safeway, not Super 1, not Wal-Mart), and it appeared as if it was a good business move inasmuch as the parking lot was full each of the three times I was there (as also were the checkout lines). The alcohol is locked in cabinets and they have taken out the call for service buttons. This means you have to go from the back of the store to the front and interrupt a cashier to have the person call someone to help you. Or you can try to find an employee somewhere. The reason? An employee told me the buttons take a 3 volt battery that they don't carry any more and have to order, get this, from Amazon. So bring a fog horn with you to cause a commotion. In the past, they would just post a sticky note saying out of order. This happened all the time. Now they have removed them altogether. Because this store is turning into a Safeway, I'm wondering if this will be a policy of all Safeways here? I will personally take $10/hour to stand there for 8 hours a day, M-F, to assist customers. This has been my family's go to grocery store for the last 5yrs, we live just blocks away and know several employees by name. Tonight we came to return a pkg of spoiled pork chops we purchased just last night. After removing the plastic from meat it clearly had gone bad. No big deal we have exchanged spoiled meat for good meat 2 other times here in the last 5yrs never had a problem. Tonight the customer service/ manager lady looked at me like i kicked her dog when i asked to exchange the meat. She took the bag with meat in it and said she would not allow anexchange or refund because the meat was fine. I said i disagree and she continued to argue with me until i threw my hands up and walked away. She was absolutely the definition of a toxic manager. I asked if there was another manager on staff as i thought i knew all of them and didnt recognize this lady. She said shes the only mgr and she was above all the others. Don't expect to complete your own customer satisfaction survey. I've had MULTIPLE employees fill out the survey for me while unloading my groceries. When I inquire as to WHY they answer the survey the response is "we are supposed to do it for the customers" not sure how that is a satisfaction survey from the customer when the employee answers it. read more

Bathroom is usually gros and falling apart. Toilet seats are cheap but they won't fix this one. Told them about it a long time ago. read more

Twice I have complained about how cold the store is, today to the manager who said "yeah" and walked away. My face was frozen, my nose like an ice cube and beginning to run, my fingers and toes numb. I felt like was standing in a snow bank! It has cooled off a little outside but nothing like inside the store. A lot of places overshoot the AC in the summer, but it's now Sept and if they can't turn up the heat, at least they could turn off the freaking AC! Obviously they don't care about the comfort of their customers. I couldn't shop fast enough to get the hell out of there. From now I'll go to Super1 foods. The store is cleaner and the help nicer, and it's only a couple of miles farther. read more

It's very hard for me to give any grocery store in town more than 3 stars, as I end up having to travel to almost all of them to complete my shopping. It's also hard for me review any grocery store in town without launching in to a critique of the food supply system and monster corporations in the United States. I will steer clear of this discussion, as Walla Walla doesn't have true alternative (grocery store-wise) to "alternative" types of shopping experiences. Just know that when I review grocery stores here in Walla Walla, this is always in the back of my mind, and read between the lines. HAVING SAID ALL OF THIS... I'll agree with the reviewer Sam K. -- Albertsons has very generous open hours, and in a town that often seems all locked up by 9:00 pm, this is very welcome! Albertson's produce selection is moderate, there are a few truly great finds there, if you catch them just after they've been shipped in. Their organic produce section, though, is so pathetic they almost shouldn't even bother having it. Other groceries largely get a shrug from me here-- I can get them elsewhere, or Alberstons doesn't carry what I want. The grocers who work at Albertsons are all pretty friendly, but you do need to roam around quite a bit to track them down. It can be hard to find them in the isles, so it's usually easiest to ask at the front of the store. Overall, for most things, there are better grocery stores in town, with more accessible grocers, and usually better selection of grocery items.... but as Sam K. notes, there are those few select items that always keep me coming back. I try to only go to Albertsons when I have another reason to be in that part of town. read more

The employees were very rude. I cashed in some coins I had at the Coinstar machine in the store so I would have a little extra spending money for the remainder of my vacation. When I was done I went to the customer service desk and stood there.....and stood there....and stood there. Employees saw me standing there, still no one said a word. So I decided to go grab something to drink. They only had one register open. The line was long. The person who I'm assuming was the manger, but had nothing to identify that they work there, tried to direct me through the self check out line. Normally I would have happily used it just to get the hell out of there, but again....I had the dreaded Coinstar voucher. She looked at me and asked my why I had to go through line. Thanks lady. I already felt like trash using that annoying machine as it was. You decided I needed to announce it to the entire store, where everyone seems to be miserable. There was a blonde cashier there at register one. She gave me the total, and I handed her the Coinstar voucher. She gave me this rude smirk, the proceeded to act like what I had just handed her was the worst thing that's happened to her in her life. It was ridiculous behavior. She had the money in her register. It was 138 dollars. We are not talking about hundreds of dollars here. She holds up the hundred (cause I totally want everyone in this place to see how much cash I have on me) and announces that she doesn't have much change so if I want something smaller, I need to go through customer service. Oh the place where I couldn't get waited on in the first place. No thanks. I took my money and left. I love shopping at Albertsons stores. Been to this on a few times. We just arrive from Seattle yesterday and needed groceries. We went to Albertsons, what a wonderful store; large, open and loaded for the Fourth of July . I picked up steaks, sides, ice cold beer and wine... lots... they have a large selection of Walla Walla wines! All the staff, very friendly and helpful too. The deli is really nice. Great to go sandwiches , pies and cookies. Now we're off to the pool.. Happy 4th! read more

I always leave angry and frustrated. Not sure if it's the annoying cashiers or the high prices, or just "in general". Would rather drive clear across town than shop here. I tried to use my phone number today to get the gas reward points and the cashier say, oh no, you have to download an app-which I downloaded a long time ago. DID NOT GET THE GAS REWARDS OR PROMISED DISCOUNTED PRICES. What are you going to do when there is a line behind you and a dumb cashier in front of you. You pay full price and leave angry and frustrated-vowing never to return! read more

This place sucks. I've been in line to check out 14 minutes with signs everywhere saying three's a crowd. Only 2 check stands open.

Good food selections, nice employees. My only complaint is that they are horrible about quick phone service. Whenever I call to see if they stock a certain product, it rarely takes less than 10 minutes. read more

I've visited several of the shopping markets since relocating here 7 months ago, and Alberson's by far saves me the most on my grocery bill. Yes, it has the familar feel of a grocery store that could use a facelift, but the staff are very courteous and helpful, I always find what I need and they are open whenever I need to stop in and pick anything up. Considering I shop for a family of 6 anytime I can find savings is a great reason to keep coming back! read more
